I would be interested in a series on how to design an entire basic sweater: Body, sleeves, and collar. You explained very clearly today on how to determine the number of stitches necessary for the front panel/body. Follow up instruction on how to design a sleeve (Number of stitches and where to increase/decrease) as well as constructing the collar would be great
👍
Just what I was thinking...
Yes
Yes, please, gentlemen! I appreciate the clarity of this instruction- would love for you to provide information to complete a basic sweater. Thank you!
Yes please!
My 9-year old daughter cast on a Christmas sweater this evening as we watched Arne cast on his swatch.
I don’t knit and I don’t know how to knit but I just love watching you guys 😃
No need to knit to watch!
I love how Arne is so excited for the yarn, how it feels, how the swatch turned out, and nevermind there isn't time for the sweater and there's the risk of creating a UFO! I like the idea though that you each make the same sweater in different colors, then you have a total of 3 that you can "borrow" between yourselves, and/or mix and match!
Thank you, Arne and Carlos, for making this so easy to understand.
I do a swatch for gauge, but even more so to get a fabric I like: the denseness, the look of the stitches, the feel of the fabric for how heavy or light I want the garment to be.
They are lovely colours, I'm looking forward to seeing the finished sweaters ! have a wonderful week
This is so cool and such a great way to figure out ur size, i love it! I started learning to knit when the pandemic hit and so fast I've made 3 sweaters, this is the easiest way I've seen yet. I have learned so much from both of you, i can't thank you enough. I wish this was a knit-along I'd be right there. Again i learned something very helpful. Love u guys!🌺😍
'4 if you count my bread' : this joke was delivered to perfection : )
I’m so looking forward to your sharing your knowledge of knitting a sweater. I am presently knitting a sweater for myself. I’m hoping to personalize this design even more.
Love your looney tunes shirt🥰!!! I so enjoy spending time with you two!!!
Queridos! I haven't been commenting but I've been watching. So impressed with how much you accomplish in home keeping, running your business and knitting, cooking, exercising... We all have the same number of hours in the day, but you two are super productive. I'm in the midst of renovating and moving, so not much time for anything else. Can't wait to get back to knitting. Big love from Chicago!
Hi, guys - I can see why you like that sweater - it looks very comfortable. Thanks for the tutorial! 🥰
I can’t wait to see the updates on all of the sweaters! I don’t think I’m quite ready to design my own! Thanks, gentlemen!
You are welcome!
I have been so enjoying your tutorials and posts. I am so in awe of your knowledge of fashion and knitting. It is a gift. Being isolated for the better part of last year was hard but I feel that I have two new friends even though we have never met. I so appreciate your stories and hard work in offering us a glimpse of Norway and your experience in living and working there. Just thank you so much for sharing your lives with us.
Thank you for listening!
I love how Arne is looking at the swatch - he totally fell in love with how it turned out ☺️ 🧶🧶 I can understand that he doesn’t have more time for the video and needs to start immediately 😅
he's too cute!
Magically his English was perfect giving all the final instructions to viewers, so they could end the video pronto! Bing, bang, boom!! That made my day!!
I had never heard of brioche stitch & initially wondered why you would be making a sweater with enriched bread. So I looked it up & spent the morning practicing until I got the hang of it. I love the effect it has on the wool, making it soft & bouncy. I am going to knit a baby blanket with the flat brioche, I'm not brave enough to try doing anything in the round. Thank you for introducing me to a new stitch. Best wishes from 🇮🇪
I recently found you guys and have been binge watching. I also bought a couple of patterns. Your instructions have made me a better knitter. Thank you for that. Love sitting and knitting with you two.
Welcome to your channel Janet!
Thank you Arne and Carlos for this very informative tutorial. Take care both of you and hugs to Freya and Helmer.
You are very generous with your free patterns.
😀
I love they way you smile at each other! So playful with a pinch of flirting!
Time for me to go and knit a cool blue sweater! Thanks for the first lesson 🎶😉🎶
I can SO identify with Arne’s excitement with starting a new project. That’s why I have so many UFOs 🥴. Cool shirt too. Gotta love Warner Bros. cartoons. Marvin the Martian and Daffy Duck are my favorites. 🛸
Great choices!
Oh no a easy peasy way to make sweaters ….you have unleashed my knitting addiction on an epic level!!!! Arne that looney tunes t shirt I Loooooovvvvveeeee!!!!! Plus the two of you would be the most adorable “twinses” ever😂
I always learn something with your videos. I’ve never knit a sweater, but I hope to try it some day, and this video had great information, thank you! And I love your newsletter. You never send too many emails and there is always great info and discounts. 🤗
Thank you, that is great to hear that you like the newsletter!
Hello Gentlemen, I appreciate the clarity of your instruction, and your warm and entertaining delivery, as always! I too, would love for you to provide information to complete a basic sweater. I learned to knit from your videos throughout the pandemic, and I am forever grateful for your inspiration. Thank you!
You are welcome Kitty!
Great t-shirt Arne! Thanks Arne and Carlos.
Arne, you were so funny wanting to leave the video to do you knitting! It is nice to see how much fun you have in knitting something. Thank you Carlos for the directions on measuring a sweater! Love to you both❤️. I hope this sweater doesn’t end up a ufo!😉
You guys are awesome thanks so much for being generous. I've bought many of your books and single designs. Love everything. Some are not my taste but I've made some I knew other people would love...so amazing. Love you.. from Colorado!
Thank you for supporting us Teri!
🌸💗 honestly I love this channel & brand 💗🌸 I live in a van and am quite happy, when I watch your videos I feel like I’m being hugged…it’s a blessing to be in such pleasant company for many years now. Thank You BOTH💗
How nice to hear from you! We are glad you are a part of our UA-cam family
I can not get over how talented you both are but I have to say, Arne I'm very envious of your talents and perfectionist. You have so many likes when it comes to crafts You also have such an innocent and beautiful soul. Carlos, you are steadfast in what you like and don't like and it thrills me to see such honesty. The world lacks honesty and it's so refreshing to listen to you in the thrift stores. You, I think, are very confident in what you are capable also just as Arne is too. You both have a beautiful soul but I'm thinking Carlos that you keep Arne on the right track when he starts to sway!!!! LOL Thank you both for your videos, I look forward to them.
Hello!!! I am glad to be able to watch your videos again! Thank you so much for being there and for your amazing tips. Blessings, Carmen
Welcome back Carmen!
@@ARNECARLOS Thanks!
Love Arne's tee shirt! and of course, the sweater he's making. I don't understand most of what he's describing, but it's a learning process, so I'll keep watching, and learning. Thanks for the great video.
😍
Thank you so much for this video Arne &Carlos !!! First time i see a detailed video THANK YOU💞
I was leafing through the new WEBS Yarn catalog yesterday as I ate lunch. And there were my two favorite knitters taking up a full page with their new sweater and scarf kits that are absolutely gorgeous. Love it!
Thank you!
Think ( or know) I am really going to look forward to seeing your jumpers guys. Doesn’t matter if you are twins as the colours are different. Brilliant. Loved this tutorial. Thanks guys. See you Wednesday 🧶🧶
😍
Thank you So much for all the tutorials and inspiration. I would love to see the progress of this project (the neck shaping and arm construction), for a complete lesson in basic sweater making.
Thank you Carlos. I, too, avoided the brioche stitch. And following Arne's coaching Thank you, Arne, I have cast-on stitches for a sweater.
Thanks sooo much for this episode. I love watching the episodes where you are showing us your knitting techniques etc. Can you show us the progress every week?
You both make my day. thanks for this wonderful video. love, hugs, prayers
Very helpful watching Arne prepare to knit a sweater. Thank you.
You are welcome!
Hello my favourite Duo. I love watching you & learning so much. Thank you ❣️
You are welcome!
I love the colors you picked for your sweaters.
Thank you!
Thank you for this very helpful tutorial! It has been a long time since I've knitted a sweater, but never in brioche. Also love to work with alpaca. Will be fun to make one soon!!
Happy knitting, Arne! 🤗
Thank you Sabine!!
Hi Arne hello Carlos. Really great to see how the measurements and stitches are worked out gir a garment xxx
Thank you very much for this, I didn't realise it was so easy to work out number of stitches. Now I know that, I'll be making many a jumper :D
At the moment I like "Raglan from the top" the most. You knit it as 1 piece and needn' t too many time to sew the rest of the garn. Now, may be, you have inspired me, to knit the next pullover in your way and in brioche. My husband will be happy. 👍😁😁
Lucky husband!
Enjoying watching the vido, will try to knit the jumper.👍
Ahhh you both are looking so amazing 🤩
And enjoyed our visit this Sunday- I’m always learning from you both 😉
I love you two and how you work together. This was a very clear beginning process for a sweater and I am so tempted to stop what I am doing and begin a sweater. lol
😂😊
I know your sweaters will turn out great! Love the colors you chose. I'm working on a two color brioche scarf for a Christmas present. ❤😘
Love the colors you picked! You’ll look so good ❤️
Thank you!
My mother and all her sisters ( my aunties) were all prolific knitters, everywhere they went, their knitting bags went with them ..the sound of the ‘ clickerty clack ‘ of the needles, their chatter and endless cups of tea, were the sounds of my childhood (which was a long time ago ! Lol) however when watching you two knitting I am instantly back to those wonderful days. I would love to knit that beautiful jumper but as mum always used to say “I was like a cow with a crutch when knitting !😂 sadly I still am ..( however I can draw a fairly nice picture of it 😃..so it’s sit and not knit for a bit for me 😀.My husband thinks it’s so bizarre for us to watch a knitting channel when neither of us are knitters ha ha I wonder how many other non knitters there are watching 😀😀
Thank you so much for inspiring me to knit my first sweater. I think I’ll practice a bit on some smaller projects first though. Good luck knitting your beautiful new sweaters!
Well done on finishing your first sweater!
When I wanted to learn to knit a sweater, I practiced on a baby sweater. It's the same principles, only smaller. Good luck! Also, a sweater knit in the round is a great place to start since it's only knit stitch after the ribbing is done.
You guys make me wish I had a knit buddy, but I can just adopt you two..😊
Love the verbage
hi guys thanks for the imfo on the sweather it makes this so easy to figure out i might even try one so i will see you wed
Love your shirt Arne!!!
Thank you thank you!! I'm so tired of trying to make a sweater with pattern, then hate the result. I want to knit more sweaters. 👍👍
I must say that I love you guys!! I have become a much better knitter following your instructions, especially for color work which I just began to explore.
I never gauge swatch, but I will start. 😣
That is great to heat Lartesa, keep up the good work1
My aran wool for one project turned out to be closer to a dk and I didn't realise until after I finished the back panel and started on the front. I had to undo the whole lot because it was way too small. I never used to gague swatch but now I do.
🤗 Pretty colored yarn!
Thank you for sharing Arne&Carlos, sounds like a really good idea to make your own pattern🥰
KimX
You are welcome Kim!
Lovely and helpful video! That yarn is beautiful! Recently I've been working with bamboo needles, they're surprisingly comfortable and strong too. Also I agree with both of you about brioche/colourwork if I can avoid purling i'll without a doubt 😂
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!🌻✨
You as well Juli!
Interesting and I swatch in crochet also. Good luck with your new projects. The yarn looks luscious.
👍👍❤️
Thank you!
Fantastic idea!!!!I will try to design my jumper!!!!
You make it look soooo easy
Great lesson! I love both colors!
Love that tshirt Arne ❤️
How did I miss this one? Geez! As always packed with information, good company and my two favorite guys ❤️ I am swatching for a sweater out of my handspun yarn. I think it’s going to be a bit heavy in the targhee wool, worsted spun yarn but warm!
Thanks again! Arne I love the Looney Tunes shirt! It matches my compter screensaver. I'm still a newbie knitter switching from Continental style to your style. Love hearing and learning from you. Inspires me try new things and even if they turn out wonky, as Carlos says there is no knitting police 😊
Good morning from Seattle. Loved the Rowan program you did yesterday. Great collection.
Thank you!
Excellent episode. LOVE the excitement on Arne's face when he wanted to start the sweater. I understand the measurements but how do you know how much yarn you will need? Maybe in your next episode you can explain this. You always leave me wanting more. Till Wednesday. 🧶🧶🧶👋👋👋
I look forward to seeing the finished sweaters😊
Great!
You are putting me in the mood to knit but I have to finish what I’m working on for Christmas stay safe
You as well Frances!
Always interesting thanks for sharing your talents. 👍❤️😊
At 10 years old I knit a cardigan with help of my mom, and now, I wanted to be able to accomplish this, but using aran style, and cables. If I can make sweaters and cardigans I will be thrilled. The sleeves and collar is what I don’t know how to do. I knitted on straight needles, working with DP or magic loop would be new to me. And assembled everything in the end.
I need to learn brioche. The yarn looks beautiful.
I don’t think I am confident enough to knit a sweater without a pattern, but I do enjoy watching you and seeing how you go about it. Tak.
No worries!
Twinsies! 🧡🧡 So adorable. 🙂🌻
Arne and Carlos thank you for a very informative vlog, I learn so much from you. I’m looking forward to seeing the sweater progress. Continued health to you both. Please pet Freya and Helmer for me
Makes me wish I had my favorite cashmere asymmetrical zip-up store-bought sweater still ! I definitely would have dug in to a winter project !
😃
Rosanne Kay good video. I just finished a sweater with a drop down shoulder. I did change the pattern. Made a v neck instead of a boat neck and changed the borders. K2p2 so it wouldn’t roll. And crocheted the borders.😀
👍
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us.
Thank you for watching Christina!
What a coincidence! I’m in the process of knitting a classic sweater for my husband using Rowan alpaca DK in Eclipse. It’s an old pattern which I’m adapting to knit in the round, bottom up. It has an interesting cable detail running along the armhole seams and I’m still undecided whether I will do a standard raglan or a saddle shoulder. The yarn feels absolutely beautiful with a soft drape. Should be a very snuggly sweater when finished!
Happy knitting!
Best of luck, I'm always adapting patterns in the round to knit flat :)
I love Arne's shirt. I'm a big looney tunes fan.
🤗
I love how both of you guys are so excited to knit your new project. Do you ever get to a point where you don’t want to finish a certain project ? Love your videos 🤗🇨🇦
We have a lot of unfinished projects!
I have been watching your videos for quite a while now. At first, I was eh, I could take you or leave you. I have to tell you that I have come to absolutely love both of you. This is coming from a beginner knitter from Asheville, North Carolina. I put my vote in for more "How To" videos. I am working on my very first sweater in Fisherman's Rib stitch. So, please, please at least keep us updated on the progress of your sweaters. Thank you so much. Weekly updates would not be too much....LOL
Thank you and welcome to our channel, we have about 5 years of tutorials, so you will have fun catching up!
@@ARNECARLOS I will never "catch up". The best I can do is bobble around and try to come up for a breath every once in a while. Hope you have a blessed day!
The sweaters r going to be beautiful, can't what to see them done. I learn si much from both of u guys, u make it look so easy. I got to learn centimeters. Make a list. TY
😃
I have recently started using a software program called Custom Fit which allows me to generate a pattern based on my measurements and knitting gauge. I have found that it’s essential to wash your swatch to get an idea of what your finished fabric will be like. I dry the swatch flat; taking measurements before and after. I then hang up the swatch for a day or two weighted down at the bottom with a knitting needle to mimic the effects of gravity. This gives me a good idea of what the finished fabric will be like and prevents me from making sweaters that stretch out of shape. This is critical to me as I use superwash yarns which tend to grow unless I knit them at a tighter gauge.
Clever
I am confused still with the brioche stitch. Ugh. But I like the idea of using a sweater you really like for a pattern. i don't like doing a swatch for gauge but I learned my lesson a long time ago on that. So now I swatch! I love learning from you two. Have a wonderful week.
Good for you! It's about time someone showed the rest of the world how this process works...showing WHY gauge is important while helping people come up with a garment that is their style! Not enough think about going the extra mile to be creative... Hooray for you both!! Hugs, GB
Agreed, to many people say "you need to do X" without explaining why you need to do X.
You mentioned Savannah GA on a packing video I was watching and it made me remember that Arne likes to read Nancy Drew books. The next time you visit there do visit Books on Bay bookstore. It’s right in the area just above the water area. They carry all the older children series - believe me Arne will leave with a bag! Tell the owner Betsy that I sent you!!
Love Carlos' colour - deep midnight type blue. The yarn seems so fine to be making a sweater with, but you are the experts. I always thought you should make a fairly large swatch so you can also see how it will drape etc.
I imagine that Arne has knit enough over the years to be able to predict it from a smaller swatch. You notice how he already knew exactly what size needle would give him the result he wanted.
In my own experience, you only really need a small sqaure to get you a decent idea. You can tell from that if it's very drapey or very stiff.
Im catching up. I missed a few episodes while traveling. Carlos so funny -brioche episodes -“4 if you count my bread” lol 😂 Thanks for ideas to make it easy to figure out a fit. Blessings
😊
Awesome to watch you guys! So how do you do the neck? Is it the same rectangle all the way up,then just sew shoulders to join, and put ribbing in neck opening? Or do you do back rectangle longer? If you are decreasing the top, is it on both front and back from about where underarm would start? I have so many questions!😁 I know I’m late here, but I agree with all the comments saying we would love to have more. I think an Arne and Carlos Basic Sweater KAL would be amazing!
Love Arne's shirt under his sweater. 👋
This is exactly what I was planning on doing next. Funny thing is that I always have knitted a swatch (in order to calculate correct # stitches for correct size) but never knew it was this formal process. To me, it just makes sense. I always unravel it, though, and knit it in; I know some people wash and block them. I am too impatient.
I am watching Beck right now - really good TV.
That Looney Tunes Shirt! So gorgeaus! Love you both. Always something new to learn 👍🏻
Arne, you are a knitting machine! If I had to knit that jumper, the first thing I would do is.....doubling the yarn 😁 and use nr. 6!
Hey there guys. Love looking in at your videos. Thanks for doing them. I also wanted to mention that Kate, from Last Homely house in feeling unwell. Perhaps you could reach out and say hi to her. I know she follows your UA-cam channel.
Thank you from Maine.
That was fun to watch and I don’t even knit🙂
Wow, great instructions on how to create you own sweater. Carlos & Arne, you won't believe what happened, my sister dropped off a sweater from Norway for repair. Because I watched your series about Norway, I recognized the embroidery on the sweater, my sister told me her husband has cousins in Norway and that's how them came by the sweater. Are most of your sweaters done in pieces, they want me to widen the front, by about 2-2.5" on each front, my thoughts are I would have to remove the collar, button band and very carefully remove the embroidery, the sleeves look like they are steeked. If I widen the front would I not have to reknitted the collar as well. Plus the sweater looks machine sewn, it's probably around 40 years old, and I don't want to muck it up. Plus I am gift knitting right now! So this sweater will just have to sit for awhile. Lol
Great video as always 👍
Thank you!
