In “The Changeling,” the protagonist, a renowned valuer and auctioneer, receives a call that leads to an intriguing assignment at Bryony House, a mansion estate in Norfolk. The house, a grand 17th-century timber-framed property, is steeped in history, with a medieval moat and a stone drawbridge gatehouse hinting at its ancient origins.
The protagonist, Richard Johnson, is tasked with appraising the antiques and furnishings of the late Miss Douthwaite and eventually disposing of them at auction. Little did he know the strange events that would follow, including the discovery of a notebook by the deceased owner, Helena Douthwaite, and the appearance of an Irish Wolfhound.
