Mr Roberts was my band director at SWD.. a FAMU alumni and creator of Drumline Live and so much more. His resume speaks for itself. Him as Marching band director and Dr. Chipman as Ensemble director is the way to go
FAMU Band will no longer have over 250 members since the NCAA told them they only can have FULL TIME band members that ONLY goes to Florida A&M University also, they must obtain a 2.5 grade point average.... MARK MY WORDS.....FAMU TIME IS UP.......the band in Florida will Now be Bethune-Cookman....
Marching 100 will always have the respect they deserve. There's just no question. They still have that amazing sound; whether they're big or small. Its all about the music. & I'm someone that never attended FAMU. Respect.
So many people hating on my Alma Marta...kicking us while we trying to get up. lol funny. Dont these people know that the 100 invented this and everybody are copying what we started. smh.
Im from Texas and I respect whats real but in the falling years of FAMU their sound and musicianship was falling by the wayside.....FAMU been living off its name from the 90's because this century they only do pictures of the field "NO DRILL" they play marches in the "5th Quarter" after they loss....and they think everything they do is straight genius and fantastic...2 words "Hell NAWL" dynasties all have one thing in common "They FALL" check history...what u do in the dark it comes to the light
I'm gone respect your preference but as a fan I am more impressed with pictures to go along with songs than squares and diamonds but if that's more impressive to you than that's cool. Famu in the 90s was great but if you actually compared the 2000s with the past the sound or type of music hasn't changed. Only thing i give u is the 5th and not because they play marches but because i think they keep recycling the same songs. I've nvr heard a hbcu band out of tx that i was impressed with.
Lol have u ever been to fam? in 2001 the incoming FRESHMEN class was about 150 ppl if not more. And i'm using freshmen because they have a clean slate and are considered eligible. This just the first year back after a two year ban. Just chill the numbers will be back and they will always be a top band due to the philosophy of the band not the size. Sound like somebody just don't like the 100.
If you ever placed emphasizes on quality you would not be in the shape you are in...Famu's focus was on numbers and being able to step outside the box, but you missed the mark regarding quality.
Its amazing how times do change. I remeber being a little Wildcat and attending the classic...Oh how the rattlers would talk and attempt to belittle the Amazing Wildcats about their size, and we always stated it was all about quality. Famu laughed...now they have neither... Wow how times change
This may be true, of TSU...but might I inform you that the FAMU INCOMPARABLE MARCHING "100" BAND has performed "PEOPLE" since the BOX OFFICE release of 'FUNNY GIRL' starring Barbara Streisand and the single from the soundtrack since 1968 dear Sirs/ Ma'ams. Some FAMU BANDS Archival input for the Listening / Reading /Viewing audiences to this Magnanimous Video clip of FAMU / FAMU "100" ALUMNUS, and DIRECTOR of 'DRUMLINE - LIVE' PRODUCTIONS: Mr.Don Roberts who is conducting this Wonderful Arrangement from FALL 1968 FOOTBALL SEASON.
Smh, at some of the musically ignorant comments. I think everyone was expecting this band to dimish in quantity but not in quality. I still hear collegiate sounding quality. I think the band sounds good and looking forward to seeing quality performances this season, not just from famu but from all the hbcu marchings. Happy music!
Allow me to correct you Mr. Melton, FAMU will have more than 250 Members in 2014, this is the first year of the band returning, recruitment, enrollement from high schools and the inability to grant scholarships during the suspension is the reson for the numbers. Secondly, the NCAA has nothing to do with BANDS !! they are a Sport entity (National Collegiate Athletic Association) so the sactions didn't come from them, they were implemented by the University Board of Trustees !!
what will famu be without numbers? are you 18 and under? FAMU been the example of quality before the numbers came. your school has a 3000 or so enrollment and a 300 piece band so why would not think famu would be a large band with a 12000 enrollment. Don't hate on the 100 bc your school has been living it their shadow for a long time. Cookman is a nice band and i like them but truth is truth and everybody but cookman know that.
Bethune Cookman will Always and forever will be! Famu ONLY had size which was by default being that ANYONE could have been a member. Good notes Charles.
You have missed the mark on Quality for some time now. Yes we are a small school and that which has dedication and Pride. We strive to do that which is right, you guys are where you are because you wanted to prove you were better than us. I ask that you understand I do not hate Times have changed and I am not putting you down, I am pointing out that which rattles stated to us as we built. Your ability to understand such, just mimics’ your schools ability to make good decisions or so it seems
The requirements for the Marching 100 have been the same, atleaset since 2003 when I came up. Saying FAMU's time is up is like saying Rolex will go out of style. This institution graduates the most black Bachelor, Masters, and Doctorates than any other so why would a minimal GPA stop students? The musical and physical requirements for the band are the same so why would the top atheletes not join? As I recall, full scholarship Marching 100 members got top dollar because we're the creme de la..
Mr/Ms BCUWILDCAT whatever you are. Instead you trying to bash the institution that helped yours many of times from funding to band instruments, you should humble yourself and keep your comments to yourself. I know you know the phrase "if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all." With that being said hbcu's should always be unified. If your going to "player hate" go do that with UF,UCF, or FSU THE FOOLERY IS NOT NECESSARY. Have a great semester Rattlers and Wildcats
Once again a rattler makes poor judgment. My comment was stated a as response regarding the comment the young lady made…not in reference to the video/clip. Your attention to detail lacks just as your band/school which confirms your status at Famu. You are right about one thing… Wildcats do reach, and as a result of reaching we obtain. “The Pride” will be bigger than Famu, and that which we know for sure is that 'The Pride" will always have quality…what will Famu be without numbers.
Where's the rest of the band? Jail maybe? Looks and sound like a high school band now. I hope their new Director stop all that dancing and actually create some bad ass precision drills because they can't drill a field for shit.
Wait you guys haven't had a band for 2 years but you're still playing in 2013, just not at the football games correct? You still have a band class and people who would be considered in the "band" if you still had one?
What ya gone do with them 126 members.....lol.......up sbit creek now that ya gotta do it the honest way and not have father and sons marching together...
And another thing Wildcat and any other person that COMES to a FAMU video to BASH the state of our music program please believe u are hating. I'm a REAL hbcu school/band fan and if this would've happened to any other band my only comments would be on the supportive side cuz no one wants this type of thing to happen to anyone. So don't hate and then say i'm not hating just accept that you a hater and go watch bands u do like.
Some folk run their mouths without knowing facts !! Any fulltime student who attends FAMU and are enrolled in the school of music or have a musical background are eligible to get in the band regardless of what da hello you say !! Get your facts straight before running off at the mouth about things you have no idea of what you are talking about !!
..creme. Give them time, and by time I mean by the time they meet BCC...BCU exscuse me, they will do the usual and crush them in the stands and on the field.

We played this in high school , this arrangement. There is no sound

Wish you and FAMU all the best under the new direction! I know it's rehearsal, but It's sounding good so far.
Lol have u ever been to fam? in 2001 the incoming FRESHMEN class was about 150 ppl if not more. And i'm using freshmen because they have a clean slate and are considered eligible. Awesome job by Professor Roberts and the wind ensemble. It would also be nice to see (hear) a video for the other candidate Professor Sylvester Young.
the 100 is back
"People" used to be a staple fanfare at TnSU. Funny to hear the hunned playing it now.

I so agree with you! From one Texan to another!

All I'm saying is I hope your do drills with the numbers yall have and I will like to see FAMU stay true to themselves
