    My husband and I are super excited to embark on our first cruise with Celebrity Edge to Alaska this June! It’s going to be a whole new experience for us, as we’ll be sailing with CCL and staying in our first suite ever. We’re usually Carnival fans, but the last one we went on was quite crowded, and the pool area was a bit too small for our liking. My aunt highly recommends this cruise, saying it’s a totally different experience. Can’t wait to set sail and create some unforgettable memories!

    Thanks for sharing this. We’re very much looking forward to sailing in Aqua Class on the Silhouette this coming Christmas. Did Concierge Class on our last cruise and purchase the passes to the spa, but we’re expecting Aqua Class to be a better fit for us. Based on your video, I suspect we made the right decision. Thank you for posting!

    How are you shooting these? I am certain that you will have noticed a lot of noise (horizontal) in your video and I wonder if this is a low-lighting issue. I chose Aqua Class for my first ever cruise, which will be on Celebrity Beyond in March, 2025.

    • @NavigateWith

      So the flickering is from the LED lights onboard the ship and so you are seeing the pulse of the electricity which I believe is on a different standard than American current. The brighter the light the less you will notice that, we have tried to correct it, but it requires being a better videographer than I currently am 🤣. Have a great trip.

    • @markhollis5850
      @markhollis5850 20 днів тому

      @ Okay, it does not look like the beat pattern between 25Hz electricity and a 30 (actually, 29.97) frames-per-second camera. The Americas and Japan use the latter standard while Europe uses 25Hz electricity (this is FYI). You may be able to set a shutter setting on your camera to defeat this (and also defeat strangeness when shooting a video monitor) if your camera has a variable shutter setting. Or, you can shoot 25FPS and match the electricity. If what you are doing is digital video (and you are), you can set up your timeline for 25FPS and simply produce the frame rate that the electricity is in. If you run into 30Hz electricity, you will not see a beat pattern. Also note that film is typically shot at 24FPS globally and the human eye’s persistence of vision will not see the individual frames as individual pictures.
      I would really like to know what you are using. I am retired, but worked 30 years in broadcasting (US-based).

      @@markhollis5850 thanks Mark. Yeah I have tried shutter speed and that doesn't seem to work and I am also using a basic Cannon Mark II, which is a typical vlogging camera. I have to think on the 24FPS per second as all my timelines are in 29.97 (i.e. would there be any issues moving forward if I went to that standard in using past video). I have a trip to Alaska coming up in May, so would welcome your any additional thoughts, as I am also pondering with the idea of doing the series all in 4K.

    • @markhollis5850
      @markhollis5850 20 днів тому

      @ If the ship(s) are on 25Hz electricity, switching to the European (25FPS) standard for your videos and your timelines for your vlogs will absolutely eliminate that. BUT remember frame-rates may interfere with any attempt you might try with a slow-motion effect, as there just aren’t as many frames in your video to interpolate into anything like smooth motion. I am sure you can make your Canon Mark II do 25FPS and, if it does variable frame rates, you might consider pre-producing a classic shot of the wake of the ship by shooting it at 60FPS (if your camera will do that). You may then put graphics on top of a shot like that.
      The passing scenery of Alaska may also lend itself to pre-planned slow-motion as well.
      But you will also note that these shots at high framerates that I am suggesting are all lit by the sun and not by the ship’s lighting.
      One might wonder about a night shot of the Northern Lights on the Alaska cruise. The sun is leaving solar max but will still send out a lot of coronal mass ejections that will excite the Earth’s magnetosphere and cause auroras. As you are in May, you will get darkness, but it will be very late, past midnight. I highly recommend you pay attention to solar weather and see if you can get good material that way. Auroras really benefit from being sped up in post, especially if you are on the topmost deck and are not visibly moving that much. You could try doing a time-lapse, but speeding that kind of material up in post and “goosing” the color would give you the same effect. Dress warmly.

      @@markhollis5850 Thank you Mark, appreciate all the thoughts. You are a gentleman and scholar. I think I need to do some practice shots and play around to figure out how I want to shoot this series. Really appreciate the feedback.

    I didn’t catch if you can keep the yoga mats? I’m assuming no…but you mentioned we can’t keep the robes - which is pretty obvious - So again, since I didn’t hear it mentioned can we keep the yoga mats?

    Hope to sail Aqua Class this summer! Question: are the facilities co-ed or are the separate facilities for men and women? Also, can you just show up or do you need to reserve a time?

    • @NavigateWith
      @NavigateWith  Місяць тому

      So there are men and women changing rooms, but the saunas and steam rooms are co-ed.
      No reservations for shows but arrive 45 minutes ahead to get a seat!
      Thanks for watching!

    Was Colleen able to use the spa?

    • @NavigateWith

      Colleen chose not to use the spa, again steam rooms and saunas aren’t ideal for the wheelchair. But it will really be up to each person what they are comfortable with!

      If you want the specific amenities than it might be worth it. Personally we think that the main dining is great on Celebrity so for just Blu and the thermal suite not really worth it for us. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.
