      Well, I believe later in life. He started to open up more. After going through all his experiences and maturing. Spock, became more human, too. Who in their right mind would smuggle themselves to Romulus? What kind of logical Vulcan would make such a decision? That is illogical. Even to support an underground political movement.

      After his experience with V’Ger he absolutely opens himself to his humanity, but even if he hadn’t, Vulcan society may be founded on logic and emotional control but as Spock says in Star Trek VI, “Logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end.”
      Also consider the words of T'Plana-Hath: Logic is the cement of our civilization with which we ascend from chaos using reason as our guide. Logic is the foundation and a sturdy foundation it is, but it’s meant to be built upon and overcome

    This was the best song of the episode in my opinion, albeit the saddest one, & lots of easter eggs, as Uhura was the only 1 present with Spock, calling back to TOS where it was Uhura singing & Spock listening & ironically the episode's name was Charlie X!

      Other hand, La'an's solo, "How Would That Feel", shows that hiding them isn't always the best thing either. "Keeping Secrets" is actually quite a good song about how hard it can be to find a middle path, but it's often disregarded in discussions of this episode partly because it's short and partly because some folks are easily distracted by the gimmick of Una turning off the gravity in her quarters so that she and La'an can do a little airborne dance.

    This is such a pivotal moment in Spock's development as a character, where he turns toward becoming more Vulcan, not out of logic but out of heartbreak and self-protection (Boimler will at least be relieved!). It also ties in well to the Original Series' depiction of Chapel's lovelorn emotions toward Spock in the "future". Chapel's also going to Dr. Roger Korby's fellowship where she will fall in love with the brilliant scientist, whose life will end in the TOS episode "What Are Little Girls Made Of?", where Chapel is also a pivotal figure.

      Let us not forget. Mr Boimler told her that the fate of the galaxy relies upon Spock, gravitating towards his Vulcan lineage. It is possible that she chose this path for the good of the many. Not the one. We see in the Naked Time and a glimpse in Amok Time that her feelings for him are buried, not expunged. So her joy may be at her being successful at saving the galaxy. This kind of annoys me. "But I am also Human, I feel things differently, bigger". Bullcrap of the highest order. The reason Vulcans had to force themselves to learn the discipline of logic is because they felt things MUCH more than humans. Their passions are hotter, their rage is savage to the extreme. If anything, Spock should have an EASIER time controlling his emotions as they are LESS than the average Vulcan, but he still has ALL the mental capabilities and discipline.

    • @nicholasemjohnson47
      @nicholasemjohnson47 5 місяців тому +1

      Yes, Vulcan emotions are stronger, which is why they suppress them, but because Spock was part human, he didn't suppress them to the same extent as other Vulcans.
      I agree it sounds contradictory, but I think when Spock said he felt differently, he meant that because he was part-human, he opened up his emotions more, but Christine's breaking up with him caused him to regret all that. And that's what the song was about: He would choose to go 100% logical to avoid getting his heart broken again.

    • @nicholasemjohnson47
      @nicholasemjohnson47 5 місяців тому +1

      It's also possible that Vulcan suppression techniques aren't as effective on hybrids as full-blooded Vulcans, which was why other Vulcans view his humanity as a handicap. This would explain why he still occasionally smiled in TOS. So this could mean that he would not only double down on suppressing his emotions, he would also, ironically, use human ways of burying them.

    • @Runescope
      @Runescope 5 місяців тому

      @@nicholasemjohnson47 Look ... it doesn't matter if Vulcan Suppression doesn't work as well on Humans or Hybrids because compared to Vulcans, Humans have EXTREMELY WEAK emotions. Like ... basically non-existent feelings. So Spock being a Hybrid MIGHT mean that His control techniques aren't as effective, but that would ALSO mean that His feelings aren't as strong so His technique would be EXACTLY as effective as a regular Vulcan. Spock's Human heritage is just a scape-goat for lazy writing.

    • @nicholasemjohnson47

      Humans may feel less compared to Vulcans, but they don't feel the same way. Humans react less strongly, but also differently.
      As a hybrid, Spock may feel less, but he still feels. And Vulcan suppression technique aren't flawless either.

      You may be unfairly judging our dear nurse? T'Pring is due to get her revenge of course in Amok Time. But let us not forget. Chapel's joy may not be because of her breakup from Spock. It may, in reality, be due to having made a sacrifice in order to save the galaxy. Boimler informed her that Spock needed to gravitate towards his Vulcan heritage to safeguard the future. Plus, T'Pring stepped away from Spock. So what has he done wrong now? Christine, as we know from the Naked Time and Amok Time, still loves him many years later. Corby, of course, is doomed. I think that look was supposed to be her noticing the first notes of music ... she did a similar look just before Christine started singing.. I think it was more like "OH there is music again"

      Wut? Uhura had no control on the singing starting and she was being his friend. She was sympathetic!

      She looked up when she heard the music start playing. Watch it again from that perspective. She was very empathetic toward Spock and the sadness he was expressing through the words in the song.

      He sings, “I’ve got no one but myself to blame. I’ve betrayed my core philosophy.” Come on, listen to ALL the lyrics. That would be the logical thing to do before throwing him shade.

      T'pring wanted to take a break

      T'Pring is due to get her revenge of course in Amok Time. But let us not forget. Chapel's joy may not be because of her breakup from Spock. It may in reality be due to having made a sacrifice in order to save the galaxy. Boiler informed her that Spock needed to gravitate towards his Vulcan heritage to safeguard the future. Plus T'Pring stepped away from Spock. So what has he done wrong now? Christine as we know from the Naked Time and Amok Time still loves him many years later. Corby of course is doomed. That is the equation.

      He wasn't betraying T'pring. They were taking a break. And she did the same thing when she chose Stonn.

    Look I love Star Trek it not the show made me love sci-fi but it was the reason I stayed a huge sci-fi fan but have notice only two couples in all the star treks made it as in didn’t break up none on Enterprise none on OG 1 on new gen that’s Troy and riker guess they really count cause they didn’t get back together till the movies on voyager 1 Paris and B’Elana on Deep space none keiko and O’Brien word and jadiza didn’t break up but she did die so don’t think it counts wow couples don’t do well in the future I always said need to do away with marriage just do partnerships contracts with options to renew each contract 5 years long
