For the Bom-omb level, there was a hidden room with the remaining coins missing. You get a few 1-ups if you complete the coin counter. so it's not a significant reward.
Even if you did have a GBA these levels were locked behind the GBA e-reader (not sure if it released outside Japan but I think it did). It released a few levels if certain barcodes were scanned and some barcodes for it were only released in Japan. I bought the GBA version on WiiU virtual console simply because it has all the levels unlocked and I'm happy to see it's the same with the switch version.
@@Ruizon1 we got two level packs of the set. It pissed me off so much back then that I was never able to complete the World e in SMA4. They also had all those cool power up cards that let you take a cape feather back into the main game.
Words cannot express how amazed I was by these levels. Almost like proto-SMM, the way it mixes elements of various versions together in the SMB3 style. So cool!
Ryu they made Mario and Luigi different in these game examples luigi has a higher jump but less control in SMW his fireballs bounce higher and when he rides yoshi the items in yoshis mouth last longer the reason they did this was to give the bros different little things great gameplay as well man! I hope you do all the Mario Advanced series!
"That was the proudest moment of my life. Marriage was a close second. Sorry, Tammy." Completely justified. I'm sure Tammy would agree. Also, imagine doing that Beetle level as Luigi.
It was a lot of fun to take someone who is pretty good at all things Mario, and then hash out some new content for you to play. Definite Mario Maker vibes, but then certain things those games don't have, either. With all the Mario Maker experience under your belt, it was fun to see something definitely Mario, but with different responses, so a little bit like learning it again. With so many levels, this could be a fun side game to sneak peeks at; I hope you might!
It's very interesting hearing Ryu talk about an officially licensed Mario game with terms that in my head, I've only ever used to describe fan-made Mario Maker content. Like fears of being softlocked, which I can't imagine they'd intentionally put into a game, but I can see why Ryu is wary of it.
ahh.. i want the entire thing. i miss when you used to play things like mario kaizo 3 (i'm probably misremembering sorry) but i liked watching you play each level, and learning how to solve them. granted these levels are excellent, and should all be beaten. please do a full run on this channel. break it up into 25 min videos. i love watching your content while i eat. and sadly anytime i show up to a live stream, your just about to end. you even did a last man run through a level, just for me.. sadly you died almost instantly, but i still thank you for trying.
This isn't actually the final level. The last 3 are kind of bonuses not under the regular numbering. The final 2 numbered levels are one level in 2 parts and actually serve as a proper ending to this extra story, so to speak.
Mario creators really do know how to make slightly difficult levels for real. These ones I feel got cut out for being slightly too difficult than their average or they just didnt have room to fit them into the worlds.
This was awesome, please play the rest! I’m wondering if these are some tester levels that didn’t make the Final Cut due to difficulty or something like that.
I love how Ryu has the same completionist spirt as I do! Please, Ryu don't forget to finish EVERY COURSE as Mario AND Luigi for a TRUE 100% sense of completion!
Loved the levels! Also that drumbeat increase in the last 100 seconds, make me think of the yoshi percussion *edit* that grilled cheese scene was almost r rated. Look good tho, and sounded just as good 👍
16:13 “That was the proudest moment of my life. Marriage is a close 2nd; sorry Tammy.” Mario has been a part of your life for _much, much_ longer; Tammy didn’t stand a chance.
Honestly with how much is in the e-reader levels, if SMW hacks didn’t exist I could see people back in the day making romhacks with the base game of this due to all the extras there are in it
i really love this video and I'd love a continuation! but i think it's cuz im biased towards your romhack playthroughs/ challenging mario content. Anyways, I'd love to see the rest of these awesome levels!
*throws a turnip at a special coin in a Mario GBA game* "That was the proudest moment of my life. Marriage was a close second." Damn, really tossing Tammy into the Koopa-infested sewers with that one.
Definitely do the rest of them. There are some pretty intense speedrunning levels toward the end that provide quite a good challenge, would love to see you get through those! ...then again as Luigi for extra challenge heheh
enemies are Way More AGRESSIVE in SMM3 . . . it is kinda crazy how much more serious this game is than the more modern ones it makes things like score 1ups matter so much more in this game . . .
That coin thing is usually a target to get a white mushroom house (for a hidden item) in the main game after you beat Bowser so you can find all the secrets. But I don’t know what it does in World e.
The extra stuff exists because all the mario advances were made on the same engine i believe, so they can pluck stuff from every other mario advance and place them in here.
These are some really cool levels! Makes me wish I had either a Game Boy or the Super Game Boy cartridge for my SNES back then… and that bounce off that Bony Beetle?! Holy cow was that ridiculous?!
You gotta hit coin box consistently to get every coin out of box I seen you only got a few out of them if you let it go too long you’ll only get 1 coin instead of 14
I didn't know these existed either as someone who never had a GBA. I've actually been checking out a lot of the games I missed out on, like the 3 Fire Emblems, Minish Cap, the Castlevanias etc. Just started Golden Sun, but it hasn't grabbed me yet.
12:27. I'm actually surprised you dont know that, Ryu. Boxes that contain multiple coins (I think) always contain up to 10 coins but you have to get them quickly. I dont know the exact time limit per one box, I would guess it's around 6-8 seconds, but once that time limit is reached the next coin you get from it turns the box to its used state. Which means you have to get 9 coins within that time limit while you can get th 10th coin whenever you want unless the stage is an auto scroller of course, which this one was.
I had this game as a kid, and I'm not sure I ever knew these levels existed... The Mario Advance games were how I first played all the older Mario games, so it's really weird for me going back and playing the original NES/SNES versions honestly.
I hope you play the rest, the USA version of the e-reader never got all the level cards so I sadly never got to finish all these. I'm so happy they added all of them on the switch version though.
The GBA port of Mario 3 is so underated, all the new e-reader were just a breath of fresh air, just a shame all of them didn't get released outside of Japan. Also the reason the final level was more easier then some, was, the level cards you'd scan had a difficulty on them, but they weren't in any order, the final level was just, the final card/level they had made before the e-reader flopped and they stopped making levels all-together, if the e-reader was successful however, it means we could of had more e-reader cards, it would have been brought over to europe, the animal crossing nes games like Super Mario Bros and Legend of Zelda would have been released, same with a potential rework of the Nes object in animal crossing, Pokemon could of utilized e-reader a lot more with the unused old map, the unused shifting cave, and a few other events that go unused in Ruby/Sapphire, etc.
I think the Bowser's Airship stages might have been the intended finale. Airship's Revenge, No Time to Dawdle and Treacherous Halls were originally promo-only stages.
I have played Super Mario world probably 1000 times and been watching your content for like years and just today for the first time ever have I understood what those coin trails that just kind of randomly break on me do and that blows my mind
Mario 3 on NES was my first video game I ever played back in 2001 and eventually I played World and the remakes on GBA but I never had an e-reader! ): Definitely play more of these, I love this! Also is it weird that I prefer the GBA remakes over the SNES ones? Mario making those low quality dialogues is so charming.
I've never played these levels either, didn't have an Ereader thing, but I have to say I was kinda expecting them to not really be that in depth but the level design here honestly looks fantastic. The creativity used with some of the collectibles and just basic design in general is pretty immense. I'd argue the puzzle where you have to bring the turnip through the pipe to get the E coin is about 10 times more genius than anything they did in the New Super Mario Bros series. Man, I want a new and innovative 2d Mario game lol.
For the Bom-omb level, there was a hidden room with the remaining coins missing. You get a few 1-ups if you complete the coin counter. so it's not a significant reward.

Ryu going back and getting all the coins in the Ghost House level is a perfect example of why we all love him.
Agreed 🙌
The coin meter thing on that bob-omb level is possible to fill completely, and all it does is give the player 3 lives.

Dude, the mechanics of this game are so unique. Really neat stuff, you should definitely do another video on this one.

Interesting I tried this game when I was a kid.. was sooooo hard, much rather watch you play through it. Do the rest baby.
i'd have laughed out loud if when he said that, we heard in the back ground "i heard that!"

28:40 OMG so cute! It was cool to discover this weird game, but that was definitely the best part of the video for me.
