@@stalkinghorse883 not likely japan is incredibly jewish with its defense budget the only reason why Type10 was launched in the first place was because Type 90 couldn't be used in all of Japan's territory. if the Type 90 was about 5 tons lighter Japan would gladly keep it around despite it having basically the same performance as Leopard 2a2
in the Type 10's defense when it was being developed RWS where kind of a rarity on MBT's and the Japanese havent really further developed the Type10 since it went into production in 2010
It's great to see how far this channel has come -- almost worth re-doing some of the earlier videos (at least new narration) to match the current standard.
no, Type 10 is only suitable for defense. Every other tank like the Leopard, Abrams, and Challenger 2 in Ukraine are being used primarily in offensive roles, as they were intended, which results in higher losses. The only thing good about the Type 10 is its low weight, high mobility and fastest autoloader in service.
Good exposé of the Type10 main battle tank. It was interesting to learn that the tank was developed to accommodate Japan's infrastructure. My initial reading of the lower combat weight was that the tank was designed along the lines of the Leopard I, which was also in the 40-ton class. That is, a relatively light tank that is fast and can hit hard.
Most Japanese roads and bridges can't handle the Type 90's weight. That's why nearly all of the Type 90s are in Hokkaido where there's more room and less urbanized or built up areas. The vehicles still need to adhere to Japanese road laws. Type 74 & 61 are light enough but lack armor thus the Type 10 was conceived. Type 10's mass and size is adequate enough to manuever in built up areas such as Tokyo without the issue of damaging the asphalt.
Well, Toho and the JSDF worked alot together in the military scenea of the godzilla movies, so some of the tanks seen in the movies were the actual thing not a model kit
I'll say. I really like the Type61 tank. It's Got some Good stuff. Yes of course it's not at all good and highly advanced compared to the Type10, but the Type61 is still good. Good speed, Good Armor, a 90mm Rifled Gun, Infrared Searchlight. The Type61 tank wouldn't be too good against the t55 an t62 tanks of the North Korean army, should Japan ever have to fight them, but the Type61 would be great against infantry of course and lightly armored vehicles.
In fact, looking at the procurement guidelines of the Ministry of Defense, we can see that the armor weight of the Type 10 tank is higher than the Type 90 tank. However, because of this, simply reducing the weight of the gun is not enough to reduce the overall weight and size, and the crew compartment, fuel space, and comfort will be greatly sacrificed. For this reason, the Type 10 tank reduced the space for armor and increased the weight of the armor to achieve heavier armor than the Type 90 tank.
Heck Yes. And a Awesome Omega Cool Tank. Definitely would be a Beast in Battle. Considering how it's State of The Art High Tech. If this Tank ever goes into War, like say against north Korea, it'll be a Pure Killing Machine. Goes to show how Highly Advanced Japan J.S.D.F. is.
I love the Type 10, if you are the only tank that can cross and fit in your infrastructure and rivers, you will be tank around. Anyways at the range they would fire at other tanks, I would assume even frontal shot would penetrate both parties.
At 40-44-48 tons the Type 10 is much lighter than most Western tanks, with Leopard being 62 tons, and Abrams being 66 tons. But it is about average weight for Russian tanks. T-70 is 42-44 tons, T-90 is 46 tons. So Russian tanks will most likely be able to use Japanese infrastructure.
@@nikolatasev4948 I agree! But they need to get them there in the first place. Like the others said, terrain. They don't have the gun depression and the pneumatic suspension to properly use the terrain. In the city it would be a fair fight as the first shot would be the killing shot no matter what tank you have with such little distances.
Addition of APS will enhance its survivability greatly without adding too much weight. Maybe that's in the 48tons configuration that we have never seen yet.
In 2009 when I belonged to the Self-Defense Forces, the instructor was angry at the Type74 tank with a skirt that had a sign caught on the road next to the training ground, but when I think about it now, it was a Type10 tank😂

Only thing i didnt like about this is that they only intend to get 300 tanks. That is not enough to defend a land as big as japan. Any form of heavy land engagement will deplete their armored force, then the army has to deal with combined arms as infantry alone.
It is ignorant to say that Type 10 are not well protected in comparison to other MBT just because it's light. Type 10's chassis are made of Nano-Crystalline Steel which much more harder than composite armor used in most tanks while maintaining light weight. It's Nano-technology that Japan had successfully utilized to retain same MBT level protection while cutting weight of Type 10. Con? It's expensive.
Nano-crystalline steel has exactly nothing to do with nanotechnology. It merely refers to the fact that the crystal structures in the steel are nano-scale, which is somewhat smaller than in most steels. I'd also point out that is does have a rather more problematic con; it is relatively brittle. It will provide great protection, right up to the point where it doesn't, and will then have a tendency to shatter. I understand the constraints which make weight a special consideration for the JGSDF, but this choice is a bit of a compromise, and perhaps even a bit of a gamble
@@talltroll7092 You don't understand anything. Did you read the description of the Type 10 tank? In the first place, nothing is known about the operation of the Ground Self-Defense Force. The Ground Self-Defense Force is not only concerned with weight. At that time, this tank reduces the impact rate and increases the survival rate by controlling the attitude with the suspension. That's why weight is important. In short, yes. It is not as well protected as Type 90s, also its cheaper, and lighter. At least they used to, but now that they have "full loadout" Weight the protection is practically the same as Type-90 or even better (almost the same weight too)
I wonder if anyone has trialled a bull-pup tank barrel design, where part of the barrel length runs the full length of the turret. Especially now with unmanned turret designs, this would allow much shorter apparent barrel length allowing faster traverse of the barrel while having lower observability.
I think this has only been attempted with recoilless rifle designs, where it's necessary anyway. With a normal gun, they are set as far into the turret as practical, to help balance the gun. But it needs space between the breech and the turret ring for recoil (and shell ejection, if applicable), when elevated. If you wanted to run the barrel length beyond the turret ring, you'd need to elevate the gun at a very rear point, which also means you can't depress the gun ... like ... at all. Also, the turret roof is going to have to deal with the way the gun elevates, meaning some severe weak points for turret armor. And any sort of NBC protection for turret crew is kind of hopeless, although of course this isn't a problem for an unmanned turret. That said ... an oscillating turret would mitigate the problems.

guys, just use the terms 'battle-tank' instead of 'main-battle-tank'. the 'main' word isn't necessary. it's like 'tank-destroyer' - should be 'destroyer-tank'. there, the world becomes more in harmonious balance.
Japanese defence forces should be concentrating on highly mobile wheeled vehicles with devastating firepower. Combined with multipurpose weapons systems such as vertical launch missile equipped modular platforms for land warfare. Of course the greatest defence asset of Japan is the fact it consists of islands surrounded by deep ocean and vast sky. Air supremacy and ocean denial is key. No enemy army should make it to the beaches. If they do ... ..

They use the same idea, that soviets did. Throw away one crew member, get smaller people for the crew. Ive read somewhere that to protect one crew member you need 12-15 tons of armour. Cut 15 tons from abrams and it wouldnt be so faty😁
If it was used on a battlefield outside Japan its protection level would be inadequate. But it is meant to deter invasion from the sea. The logistical burden of transporting a main battle tank and supplying it during an amphibious operation is significant - even the US Marines are ditching their tanks. Therefore most of the vehicles the Type 10 would be expected to encounter would be much lighter, and mobility would be more important.
@@PhsykoOmen ... you are aware that drone operation in such a manner is only possible in a warzone that you hold complete air superiority over. I always said it's better to view the Type 10 as a Light Tank, the more I think about it, maybe a better way to say it would be a hybrid Light Tank / Tank Destroyer.
0:03 Well not really if you understand the country's geography, basic infrastructure networks like rail, road and airports and possible nations they may need to go into confect with. Like for example the JGSDF if dropping the Type 10 MBT in favor of the Type 16 due to its mobility, it's ability to use roads and the threat moving from the North where the Soviets who would have could possibly invade Hokkaido, to South East due to the growing threat of Mainland invading the Senkaku Islands due to the Senkaku Islands disputes.
Should be a heavy tank with modular armor which can be reassembled in the field. In that way, it can go through the bridges with “naked body”, so to speak.
@@muhammadnursyahmi9440 thank you. As Guderian pointed out, the primary function of tank is to fight against another tank. That’s why the armor protection went up from 50 mm of his time to 1000 mm, and tanks become heavier and heavier. If terrain is not favorable, then it should be not used. This applies equally to the adversary. We are talking about hypothetical impossible situation, that’s, column of heavy tanks invading JP. If there were invasion, my idea would work better.
Tbh that idea is time consuming and cannot be applied if those tanks are in haste to retreat or to reinforce their defenses also keep in mind that removing and reassembling a modular armor could take anywhere from half an hour to hours depending on the personel training and the equipment available and if you listen to video very clearly the tank is designed to go to the places where normal tanks can't pass that's why the type 10 is only useful to hokaido as that place is a nightmare to tanks due to it's unique terrain

I sincerely hope Japan can arrange enough resources to build an adequate amount of military defences against the upcoming invasion from PRC, it is only a matter of time, and it is gonna hurt A LOT given the brainwashed hatred towards other countries and savage nature of the mainlanders
No offense dude, but I think Japan is way more likely to fight north Korea. Not China. China ain't perfect yes. But nk is way more messed up.
@@seanmager1168 North Korea is messed up no doubt, but its military arsenal is completely outdated other than their ICBM / cruise missiles. The T-72 tanks won't able to get past the S.Korean K2's, nor the diesel submarines, jets and naval units aren't any threat to japan's more advanced unit. China, on the other hand, has a LARGE number of units, new and old, built 9 artificial military islands around south/east china sea, claiming areas from other smaller Asian countries. Japan will always be in China's sight after overtaking Taiwan. Trust me, watching the brainwashing TV, movies and being told stories about having wars against Japan since childhood, the hatred and payback mindset towards Japan is in the blood of most mainlanders. It is not a matter of if, it is just a matter of when
Even in my most disturbing dream I never thought about China invade japan lol it will never happen but anyway I guess we will see France invading Germany soon so....
@@14981fc that's basically how the nazis brainwashed an entire nation into war, through the spread of hatred
Yep, the mainlanders are brainwashed into hating Japan from childhood.
I was just leaving the JGSDF when this was being introduced.

Outstanding video!
Bad ass tank! That speed and agility is nuts.
Tanks for watching the video.
What incredible design and execution by Japan. A beautiful, sexy, lethal machine suited for Japan's geography and loaded with Japanese tech and innovation.
I also like how the Japanese were smart about buying tech fron other countries rather than investing money to duplicate what others have already done. A licensed, modified Rheinmetall 120 mm gun and Israel's hard kill system are great choices, top notch products.
guys, just use the terms 'battle-tank' instead of 'main-battle-tank'. the 'main' word isn't necessary. it's like 'tank-destroyer' - should be 'destroyer-tank'. there, the world becomes more in harmonious balance.
Good vid, like your accent.
Cheers from Australia

Excellent analysis
Well done and informative
That's a cool tank! :)
Sure is dude. Well said. It's Cool. Looks Cool. It's State of the Art. It's a great weapon in the J.S.D.F.'s Arsenal.
Awesome MBT and review. Challenger 3 next? (With what is currently released anyway)
If they do ... ..
Do you know Type 16 MCV and MPMS?
Ovaj tenk ima sve ono što superioran tenk treba imati.
Očito su ga dizajnirali ratnici uz asistenciju vrhunskih inžinjera.
Najbolji tenk

Japon makes some good high tech weapons. I like there fighter plains.
I hope japan can export those tank the only tank meet my country requirement other country tank are to heavy to use in rainforest country
1 HE 152mm and all the bits on Type -10 are flying of the hinges, ribbins and bolts.
Im confused, what sort of robot/aircraft does it transform into? :)
the japanese jsdf type 10mbt with 3-man crew. similar of russian and french tank designs.
Good video
Brilliant and awesome machine 👏
Ok
Better armor in it's base form at 44 ton weight then the newest Abrams which is over 70 tons.
They use the same idea, that soviets did. Throw away one crew member, get smaller people for the crew. Ive read somewhere that to protect one crew member you need 12-15 tons of armour. Cut 15 tons from abrams and it wouldnt be so faty😁
I wonder if this would be more useful for Ukraine, because of being lighter weight, than heavy western tanks.
I’ve heard they can change 44 barrel to 55 barrel as needed.
But the 55 model hasn't appeared yet...
It looks like the turret will shear off the driver's head if it turns.
It is such a good video as always.
They say the protection level is not sufficient for any future demands of the battlefield. Some say it's not enough against modern opponents of today.
In the age of drone warfare, any tank is insufficient.
@@PhsykoOmen ... you are aware that drone operation in such a manner is only possible in a warzone that you hold complete air superiority over. A tank is never employed by itself, as modern militaries universally work in a combined arms doctrine. If you try to drone strike a tank, whilst the enemy has AAA-installations online or operational Fighters or is efficiently contesting airspace in any manner, that drone is gonna die before it ever even comes close to the operation zone.
@@PhsykoOmen When do these sorts of comments gonna end?
This is the same kind of shit as calling one MBT "better" than the other or even making the top 10 list of "best modern tanks" which is absurd.
The worst thing in the last few weeks was "These old T-72s should get APS because of the insufficient, old standard level of protection!". It does not matter the cost of buying fairly modern tanks will still be way cheaper than obtaining APS of the Trophy standard.
"These tanks are obsolete in the face of almighty swarms of drones"
ATGM was far more dangerous yet proven to be wrong calling it "end of tank career".
Tripple facepalm.
@@draochvar9646 Leave it. It's a whole new level of abstraction. No need to waste time explaining obvious things.

This is a nice Tank 👍
Elegant Type10 in my beautiful but narrow and mountainous Motherland.
Every Chinese and Japanese tank be like: *Let's name it Type-XX*
I live in Japan. The naming system uses the Kanji 式 which gets translated as type. But it really could be model (M) like most other western countries use.
My opinion, type 10 suitable for my country 🇮🇩. With all backgrounds such as archipelagos country, infrastructurs condition (roads, bridges, railway, etc), land condition, rivers, forest, beachs, etc, i think this type 10 good choice for my armed force (TNI AD). Of course type 10 have to interop with leopard RI too.
I doubt the Japanese would export their tanks to other countries in near future. They need to first amend Article 9 which would involve agreement from US, and i sincerely doubt that would happen.
Not to mention the general populace of Japan are largely supporting Article 9, with the exception of ultra-nationalists.
@@muhammadnursyahmi9440 yes, i am understand. My opinion in technical area. Not include in political area.

Japan is already delinking their traditional resistance to arms exports, even coming up with a list of 12 countries that they favour for exporting 'used' and newer arms. Case in point is their Mitsubishi shipyards.
But Type 10 'MBTs' are a better idea and deterrence than the Turkiye Kaplan@ Indonesian Rimau medium tank.
7:00 type 10 has a auto loader
Is it right seat drive? if so, not for me.
I always said it's better to view the Type 10 as a Light Tank, the more I think about it, maybe a better way to say it would be a hybrid Light Tank / Tank Destroyer.

Modern Japanese tanks: “Oh muh lord!”

Well not really if you understand the country's geography, basic infrastructure networks like rail, road and airports and possible nations they may need to go into confect with.
They used the type 10 to fire type 10 from a type 10.
Yes, you just need type 10 x type 10 x type 10 x type 10 = 1000+ battle power.
A true Gundam!
But can it drift?
And fire while jumping?
they wont jump
but yes, they drift, they shoot while drifting and hit their targets!
What would be the looks of the type 10 successor
Can you do Malaysia Pendekar Main Battle Tank
Elinize sağlık :) ilk izlerken ya bu Türk e benziyor dedim aksanı yanılmıyorum da sanırım :)
Should be a heavy tank with modular armor which can be reassembled in the field. In that way, it can go through the bridges with “naked body”, so to speak.
Japanese bridges are designed with a load capacity of 300% of the published load capacity
Also, heavy tanks are not optimal for Japan geography. Lots of mountainous region, rivers, islands.

Type 10 vs Merkava who do you think will win ?
Hard to say
Type 10 tanks are purely Japanese, cheap, and high performance. However, it also has several weaknesses.
Type 10 aint cheap
Japan suffers from having a stagnant economy. Looks good on the surface but debt is killing any growth they can muster.
The nature of the country post war has been very much anti war. The armed force, besides the navy, shows a similar shrinking pattern. JASDF could certainly acquire new F-15EXs and install their own XF9 engines onboard, but is only going for a not as good upgrade for part of their current F-15 fleet.
Mitsubishi can build the F-15Js again with specs and materials similar to F-2 if they want to.
@@Joshua_N-A I'm sure they want to. Japan is not small. I don't know how they can protect themselves with only 100 Eagles, 80 F-2s, and 40 F-35s. F-35s are not good at quick reaction either. Their neighbor is China, not Mexico.
Wait, holy shit, they ordered 170 F-35s?! That's going to bankrupt their country. And suck a lot of finding away from their F-3.
@@ABCantonese F-2 costs around 127 million US dollar per plane. F-3 program is projected around 45 billion USD. Japan is to be the largest foreign F-35 operator according to orders. The F-35A replaces the old F-4 Phantoms. F-35Bs are for the Izumo-class vessels. Harriers are too slow.
