Eternal, a British R&B girl group, emerged onto the music scene in 1992, featuring the talents of sisters Easther and Vernie Bennett, alongside Kéllé Bryan and Louise Nurding, later known as Louise Redknapp. Recruited by a label, this dynamic quartet achieved international acclaim, selling approximately 10 million records worldwide. However, their journey was marked by changes and eventual disbandment.
Their 1993 debut album, "Always & Forever," soared to number two on the UK Album Chart and achieved quadruple platinum status in the UK. The group's success continued with hits like "Stay," "Just a Step from Heaven," and "Oh Baby I..." The pinnacle of their chart domination came in 1997 when they secured the number one spot on the UK Singles Chart with "I Wanna Be the Only One," earning them the prestigious 1997 Mobo Award for Best Single.
Despite their achievements, transitions within the group unfolded. Louise Redknapp departed before the release of their second album to pursue a solo career. Kéllé Bryan left under undisclosed circumstances in 1998, leaving the Bennett sisters as the sole remaining members. The group officially disbanded in 2000.
Eternal experienced a brief revival in 2013 when Kéllé Bryan rejoined for a one-off performance. The trio, sans Louise Redknapp, participated in the second series of the ITV2 reality show The Big Reunion, culminating in a memorable concert in March 2014. Despite their resurgence, Eternal ultimately disbanded once again, marking the end of an era.
Recognized as the UK's response to the American girl group En Vogue, Eternal left an indelible mark on the R&B scene with 15 UK Top 20 hits between 1993 and 1999, a string of chart-topping successes, and an enduring legacy in British music history.
