When we were but young lads, my best friend had an old hand crank telephone generator, it put out about 90 volts a.c. We ran a wire pair up the back of his shirt and down his sleeve where we fashioned a contact pad on his palm. i would stand behind him cranking like mad and he'd put his hand on some unlucky playmate and give him a jolt- this is how you have fun when you're 12 years old and stupid, of course it never occurred to us that we could possibly induce a heart attack in someone with such a stunt, but that's how you think when you're not fully cooked. ☺

Urządzenie do survival. Ogólnie polecam szczególnie w naszych czasach. Pozdrawiam

I am unable to charge my phone faster than 5v 500ma ... i dont know why i cant charge my smartphone if it is 30w crank generator. Battery draws only 2.5W max. I tried diffrent cables but it is problem with phone`s battery circuit. It ask for much more draw(maybe 2amps) i cant deliver it so it drops voltage and it is back again to 500ma or lower and cycle repeats. Can u charge your phone with higher current than 1A ?

    1) Why does oil leak from the handle attachment point when rotating? 2) why is it difficult to twist in some places during the rotation of the handle? it is when you charge your phone. Is it easy or hard?

    • @vitacell1

The load you feed, has some consumption, and minim voltage of working, for maintain that minimum voltage(volts) and enough current(amp) you must to crank faster and hard enought. Speed is the voltage, and amps are how much force you apply. Let's take a smartphone, you set 5v and it wants maximum of 1 amp. For maintain those 5v here is a DC-DC converter that boosts all your mechanical force for maintain that voltage at expense of current (amps), and this will be hard to crank when you start cranking. So, when you just overdo cranking speed, it will be smooth enough, you just must to maintain that speed. The more watts your device wants, more speed and mechanical force you will need.
If you can maintain 5v and 500ma for you smartphone it won't be so so hard, but if it eats the maximum of 1amp, it will be better to crank faster, when you maintain 5v and 1amp while cranking, you will realise that now the crank handle is smooth and you are not generating more than smartphone needs. So, if you crank slower, it will be harder, and you will need to apply more force, and while generaling only 500ma, smartphone will be chargins slowly, not at this maximum.

If you want a crank generator you should first consider that with your legs, Lance Armstrong(7 times Tour de France winner) has an output of about 300Wh average in an hour.(With steroids) So if Lance Armstrong was to sit on a "Bike cranked generator" he would avarage about 300W for an hour. A normal human being would do about 50% of that(If you are a fat guy maybe 20%) A 300W output is the same as 25Ah@12V.
With your arms AND hands it will drop to about 60Wh(5Ah/h) and thats if you are a really strong man. Average man might do 50% of that(2,5Ah every hour @12V or 30Wh). This is NOT accounting the mechanical losses in the crank/gears to generator.
In reality a normal human being would be able to avarage about 10W per hour with a portable hand crank generator which means you could charge the new iPhone X in an hour(if the phone where in OFF mode while cranking). So please don´t kid yourselfe, you would more likely get carpal tunnel syndrome before charging your smart phone.
If it was an emergency though, as Scott said, it would be a legit way to power your phone for a while.

this one fits backpack. If you combine it with foldable solar panel , you will have good combination of off grid power. When there is enough sun - solar does the job. When the day is cloudy, you can crank it and have emergency power.

It is not hard at all as I own one. Hell, I have sat and cranked for 7 hours once, charging several units. I am a small guy 139 pounds and 5'6". The crank is effortless, to me anyways. I have charged car batteries with it in a couple of days. Once you get in the groove, it goes buy fast. I usually pop on a couple of dvd's that I enjoy and power thru. Truth is, it is all mental anyway. If you think it is going to be hars, then it will be,

I recently bought myself one. The following problems were encountered. Can you answer me what is the reason for this?
      Hey!
      1) why does oil flow out of the handle attachment point when it is rotated?
      2) why is it difficult to twist in some places when turning the handle? this is when you charge your phone. It can be easy and then it is very difficult to twist. What is the reason for this? And this is at number 5. It goes easily, then it is hard. It’s as if you are twisting minced meat in a meat grinder and you come across a bone there and it suddenly becomes hard to turn the handle. Then, with gradual crushing of the bone, it becomes less difficult, and after complete crushing, it becomes easy to twist again.

Hi Glyn. They are what is called cramp balls, King Alfred's cakes etc. They often grow on UK silver birch trees or dying tree wood and can be broken off and used for firefighting. My son knows more about this type of thing and does videos on UA-cam under the name folklawwoodsman Chris Jordan.. see on my subscription list

There is no free energy -you simply convert one type of energy into another. You eat food -it gives your muscles energy -then you convert that energy into electricity by cranking this thing.
And since food is not cheap it ain't free .
