Björn's music history is amazing, I admire him so much. It's so interesting that "Björn made folk and was interested in pop. Benny made pop and was interested in folk". They got together, they created magic and they have made our lives happier.

This was fascinating, I only have the Lycka cd but keen now to look into the Hootenanny Singers catalogue, thank you as always BB for a great video. Greetings again from Australia…
I adore Hootenany Singers 🙌 the way they used to sing outside, the same in a park or along the street, is fantastic! It’s sad to hear that some of them are not here any more 😢 Thanks Bobby’s Brother it’s fantastic also this report! 👏👏👏👏
Thanks for creating and sharing this insightful look into Bjorn’s “other” band! Another piece of the Abba formation puzzle. It always annoyed me when people would say that Abba were manufactured, thrown together for Eurovision. It simply was never the case - their formation was an organic process, quite by chance in so many ways.
By chance you probably mean, unique moments in time that each of ABBA members happened to step in (or out). Some other watcher could qualify those as coincidental or even synchronic... Then I agree. Yes, there are incredible chances like these mentioned in the video. Like Anni-Frid winning her second contest the same day Sweden was changing driving lanes, and so most everyone stayed at home, while the TV producers so impressed by her performance decided to rush her to prime TV (one could guess there was only one channel back then) and now at 2023 we treasure that unique instance of incredible quality... So, many points on their story alone or together feel like these ones. If someone would at some point decides to tell those stories, there is such baggage of several dimensions to thread, that I feel relieved in a way that it hasn't happened just yet. Within time they'll be more prepared to do a fair account, or several ones...
Thank you for this fascinating story about the Hootenanny Singers!!! I didn't know just how prolific they were, I'm definitely going to listen to their music more! Happy 60th anniversary!!!
Hej Hej, BB! As always, really enjoy the level of detail here and the wonderful photos and footage. Thank you for this video and the information about where to find more of their music.
Hey Hey Bobby, as you know I’ve been a fan of Bjorn’s since way back. The first time I heard The Hootenanny Singers, being young and naive, I didn’t believe they were from Sweden. Their English was perfect, they sang with no accent. LOL Of course so did the Beatles and every other band that came from Europe. And I’ve said Bjorn and Benny have always been ahead of the times. At this point nothing they do as solos or part of ABBA surprises me. I look forward to whatever they do and thrill at the fact that they still do it. Bring it on.🇺🇸
Nothing in this life is by chance, and that's the proof! Thank you Bob, for such precious information, because in Brazil we don't know anything about Hootenanny Singers or Hep Stars. Great work, man!❤
Thank you so much BB. I enjoyed this video, and as you know I love Omkring Tiggarn Från Luossa so much that I taught myself how to play it on my channel. 🎹 👍

I immediately hope for an album collection from the Hootenanny Singers! But Polar/Universal seems to be only interested in releasing ABBA compilations 😢
I never knew of this or Benny's Hep Stars groups but sure I had heard some of their music in UK on the radio. I found later how big they were in Sweden and only now have found out that Bjorn wrote many of the lyrics and music. Fascinating story.
It's great to learn more about the Hootenanny Singers and did I spot them (at 2:20) possibly using the same bandstand that ABBA used for People Need Love single photo?
Yes, you are absolutely correct about that. It's the same canopy. What a fantastic connection, isn't it? Thanks for your kind comment, glad you enjoyed it!
I'm not familiar with the complete work of the Hootenanny Singers, but I really enjoy some of their early tunes like "Nimm dein Banjo dir zur Hand", "I lunden gröna", "No Time", "Time To Move Along", on a musical level also "Baby Those Are The Rules" although that lyrics didn't age well.:)
Agree with all choices, lovely songs. I can't help but think that the lyrics to "Baby Those Are The Rules" couldn't have been more than pure satire, haha.

From what I have read, Bjorn is very proud of the group that he was in, the hootenanny singers, he just wish it was a different name, he always felt it was a stupid name, the hootenanny singers
Björn thinks the same about the name ABBA. It never even crossed my mind to think something negativ about the name Hootenanny Singers. It always felt good to me. The first name of the group, The West Bay Singers, is also cool!
Early on, as a kid LOVED plenty of music by its musicality, not paying attention to the words in it, where these in my language or not- Soon learned English and still had no actual perception of the lyrics. Nor was either keen on singing. How could I sing all those interwoven little details or those clouds of strings I was feeling rushing through me?
Possibly this was much due, musically I was a kid of the 70s in Europe. Pop Corn song, Fly Robin Fly, Sunny by Boney M and many others (ABBA of course) ELO, Queen, brought a complete new aesthetical experience with their appearance. Even vintage songs at the time would sprout without sonic context and so be sound novelty... Jet aime, My Way, Rock and Roll! etc. Within that explosion of colour, varied rhythms and textures, lyrics were a secondary consideration indeed.
Björn's music history is amazing, I admire him so much.

Björn is underrated. While I didn't experience it myself, the Hootenanny Singers were huge on the Svenkstoppem charts!
