- Should you lift your heel off the ground in your golf swing or should you leave it flat on the ground? There are so many different ways to swing the golf club and trying new and different things can really help you find what's best for you. Should you swing more like Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson or Matthew Wolff or should you be more like Tiger Woods?

I lift my heel to help me make the turn in my backswing. I was a big time swayer and that lifting the heel helped me. Might not look "correct" or pretty but it helps me keep it in play.
Harvey Penick said to lift the heel if needed! I lift my heel sometimes a little and sometimes a lot. Some people think it is a swing flaw but they are just repeating something someone told them. Lift the heel and "turn baby, turn" is my way!
I'm a heel lifter. I believe I can create more speed. Also, easier on my back, in my opinion.
wow, this works for me with good results. I realized if I put the hell down before the down swing starts, the distance is 10-15% greater than my previous average. Thanks for your great tips.
Another helpful video. A SwingCaddie review would be awesome. Thanks.
I lift the heel. Not because I want the extra distance, but because planting the heel back down is my way to get my hips started in the downswing
Not had great success lifting my heel but you have explained how to do it. Going to try it today 😊
I think tiger was one of the first to get everyone keeping the heel down. I played like that. My swing seems to be all upper body. Cant wait for the range to open and try lifting my heal. Baseball players do it too. Thanks mrsg
I lift my heel. It is a habit I brought over from my baseball days. It just feels more natural to me. If I try to NOT lift the heel, my swing feels forced and I tend to overthink. We all know what happens after that.....
Ditto with the baseball/ softball background - hard habit to break!
That is the best explanation I've ever seen for heel lift. I suffer from reduced swing speed due to a fused right ankle so I can"t turn through properly . When I've lifted my heel in the past, I have done it exactly the way you said is wrong ! Looking forward to the results !
Hi MrShortGame. At 74 as a right hands golfer I literally stomp my lead foot on the ground to start my back swing and then I literally stomp my trail foot on the ground to start my downswing. It is the best easiest and most powerful golf swing in my entire life. I could write a book why and how it works; but being Mr Nobody who would read it?
Was hoping you might give my swing thought a try and tell me what you think of it. Cheers
Ive got the swing caddie SC200 --- its the best launch monitor for its price on market ----PERIOD.
However , one thing I've noticed is that it tends to under clock on swings over 95mph. Its really great for dialing your wedges as long as you maintain your clubs loft angle through impact ie dont open the face or move the ball back in your stance and try to punch it.
I'm not very old, but I am pretty slow and not very flexible, so I do it. It helps me get a better turn, takes tension out of that knee, and also serves as a trigger of sorts for my swing. Not of the greatest coordination, so I find that it's a defined, easy start to my down swing, and I can be more consistent that way. The heel lift, and a ball position inside my leading heel are undoubtedly how I strike the ball best. I didn't know this is how Jack Nicklaus preached it in his instructional tape until after I was doing it, and seeing a snippet of that on youtube after made me feel good lol
I found keeping my left heel down and feeling like I was pushing away from it in the backswing helped my accuracy amazingly well,,,,yes it lost me a few yards but it shortened my swing (which was a bad over-swing) a lot.
I've been lifting my heel for the past few weeks now and the difference is unbelievable.. I have a bad slice, but sometimes hit that great shot... Now I'm hitting absurd numbers in the 300+ consistently
Lifting the heel makes it so I transfer the weight in the proper spots at the right time. Before I found I ended up on my toes more often than not, but never if I lift the heel
Great video, love your videos! Yea, I lift my heel a little on my drives. But I try to stay planted with my irons. It works for me. I have the old swing caddy. I can't wait for the review on the new one.
Got me something to work on at the range. Thanks
I switched from being a heel lifter recently. I wasn't really meaning to keep my heel down but I started flaring my left foot to ease the torque on my knee. With my foot flared my heel naturally stays down without extra swing thoughts.
Can you lift with a sand wedge as well? I tried it today on the range and it helped to stop the chunk.
Another great video. Is it wise to lift the heal for woods and irons too or is it for driver only?
Love all your vids
good vid , keep up the good work
Thanks, how about doing this video with a mid or short iron.
Looking forward to that skycaddie review.
That's was good to finally know !!!
@ 65 I'm just going to heel lift to help me complete the turn
I actually got better with a slight heel lift. Helped my rotation and got my backswing a little smoother and longer.
Very good, thank you!
Educational thanks
👍 Good advice
love u r explanation
I'am not very flexible, so I automatically lift for good rotation.
Lifting my heel helped me with getting my lower body moving. But with the extra 10-15 yards I get I lose a bit of control.
Would you recommend it for irons too?
Your heel down shots looked super consistent
Yeah that's my normal move.
Yes please swing caddie 3 review
Voice caddie 3 reviewed would be great. I have last edition.
I keep my heel planted to maintain the accuracy - I find that keeping my hips & legs tight with no sway & minimum rotation in the backswing results in much more constancy. In the forward swing I have been getting good results with a mini squat and jump to finish on my toes (weird, right?, but I like it)
Were the images of the shots from the swing caddie app?
All over the video starting at 3:21
@@MrShortGame I wasnt sure that's where the images were coming from...but, thank you
Lifting your left heel doesn’t mean you have bad flexibility. Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer lifted their heel in their early years.
Letting the heel come up seems to cure my head dip, would that make sense?
I could the lifting helped with accuracy. Must be a swayer.
I just want to be able to drive the ball straight, consistently every time. I always feel like i correct something but create another issue
Wolf and nicklous don’t seem to spray it with heel up
I read an article saying Tiger's back problems came from not lifting his heel.
Just my thought I think it’s right. Not natural for your body. And bad for your left knee too
Recently discovered I make better contact by being a lifter and not swaying off the ball. Bye bye fat shots....
The Heel may Heal ! Fore !
There’s a reason Tiger banged out his knee and back. The left heel "glued" to the ground
When I was a kid I wanted to be like Jack Nicklaus and he lifted his left heel
DOPE BAG !!!!
Glad you like the new bag. Or am I a dope bag?
@@MrShortGame the bag .. but you're really cool too 😂🤣
@@MrShortGame I know you review alot of clubs ... I lost old school epic head in the drink .. you have one for sale
ground...
I just look at statistics. When you look at major winners, heel lifters outnumber the non lifters.
