- IK Multimedia has done it again! With the release of TONEX ONE, no pedalboard is safe from an IK invasion. Taking the exact same high quality captures we all know and love from TONEX software and TONEX pedal, but now squeezing them into a format that can literally fit on (or underneath) anyone's board, this is the right kind of recipe for TOTAL TONAL DELIGHT!

Just want to say I’m thankful for your excellence and quality in your videos.
Dude, thanks a ton Stephen!
Amazing job on the video, Devan - super comprehensive and helpful. Will be referencing this when my pedals come in!
Heck yeah bro. Thanks a ton. Can't wait for you to get them!
GREAT video. Love the polarity exploration. Nice job once again Devan!
Thanks a ton brother!
The production! High quality video! Grats
Much appreciated!
🙂↔️ time to re organize my board
joke aside this youtuber is rare, he doesn't only loves tone & music but also loves Jesus 🔥🔥🔥
Ahhh thanks bro. 🙏🏻
This will sell like crazy, IK is hitting it out of the park! No regrets that I have the full sized product but this excites me in that it will bring even more users on board to Tonex (more captures etc..).
Yeah no doubt about that. A LOT more users are about to emerge!
@@thetoneshepherddoes it work with headphones? Can you just use it for effects disabling the amps? Thx bro
I love it. Great video 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks!
Im so grateful for the final thoughts in this video. Thank you.
Very encouraged to hear that 🫶🏼🙏🏻 You're welcome
Brooo, amazing video!! ⚡️
Thank you my man!
Great video and very exciting product!
It really is!
Man i think the thing that's underrated is your video production. From video recording to your editing, it's awesome.
Ahhh thanks bro!
Love this video bro!
Thanks Jimmy! Loved yours as well! Both were so good (as usual) 👏🏼👏🏼
This is WILD. Man, such a great video. I just got the big ToneXs too lol, looks like I've got some decisions to make 😅😅
I know bro. I know! I tought of you a ton...like...man, if he had just waited a couple months hahah
Haha for real. I'm not mad though, I still feel like I'm tweaking different captures all the time (especially with the new guitar), and the presence + depth knob are really important to me. I might switch to these down the road once I'm really locked in with my go-to captures!@@thetoneshepherd
Yeah totally understand that!
This is sick! But… You’re right… I literally last night just finished my board last night 😂 ☠️
I knew this was gonna be the case with so many people....I wanted to warn y'all so bad!! haha But alas... 🤐
I appreciate that. Thankfully i can still return mine at guitar center haha. I hope they dont read this lol 😅😅
Go now! lol

The best review for sure 👍🏼
Ahhh thanks!
Perfect rewiew
Thank you very much
My pleasure!
Great job on this, one more subscriber!
Thanks Denny! Soo appreciate that!
He Devan, As a guitarplayer in my U2 tribute band and not specific a worship guy, I'm always searching for new sounds and gear. This small big pedal really got my attention, because of its size and capability. I'm a fan of your great sounds and videos!! So well made and explained every detail. Thanks for that! I love your AC30 presets, of course, but everything else also sounds really amazing! At the moment I'm busy with a pedalboard and waiting for the Aspen drive to arrive. Also still searching for THE best amp in pedal for on the board. The Ruby was the 1st choice but also has some issues. This pedal in stereo is a great option. Thanks again for this great video! Grtzzz Leon 🙏🙏
Thanks Leon! Really appreciate your kindness! The Aspen is so fun! Played it all weekend for a retreat and loved it. The search for the perfect amp in a box will be ongoing no doubt, but it’s getting easier and easier to have incredible tones cheap and easy!
Damn this vid is Thorough with a capital T! Outstanding work.
Thanks bro!
Great Vid Bro!
Question… If your running a stereo rig then would you have to purchase two tonex ones? Not sure if I missed it in the vid. Much love brotha!
Thanks bro! It depends…you could run a stereo rig with just one TONEX ONE if you ran your stereo wet effects after the amp. But if you want stereo wet effects before your amp (which is my preference and how I’m demoing it here) then you’ll need two of them.
Great for gigs
💯
DANG DUDE THIS VIDEO RULES!!!!
THANKS KEVIN!!
FInal thoughts, really very good advices I definitely take it
Much appreciated brother 🙏🏻
No more questions, I want one!
Right!? 👏🏼
Thanks for such comprehensive review. I just discovered your channel and love it. I'm a Helix Floor user and I'm trying to avoid bringing the Helix to church. Something like the Tonex One will be great but of course I'd miss all the modulations and delays. Have you tried the Tones One with strong Reverb (in a Tone preset I don't mean an additional reverb pedal) and no additional pedals at all? My idea will be to bring just the guitar and a Tonex One ro church and move from a clean channel to a Drive channel and that's it (I can then flip through many Preset A/B options if needed for different songs). Our church setup and band is very minimal (just worship leader with acoustic and me on electric) so maybe I can get away with this. Thanks again !! Blessing
Thanks a ton! I don’t love the built in reverb sounds on the ToneX one but you may be able to get by in a pinch. But with a unit this size, I’d maybe look to add a separate reverb and a delay and make a small pedalboard around that. The. You can cycle between three presets live on the TONEX ONE by entering browsing mode
@@thetoneshepherd Thanks for advice. Really enjoying your content
You got it my friend, thanks again.
Thanks for the in depth demo. The latency test was interesting. I was thinking I could add this in parallel to my big box to run stereo amps but now I’m not so sure.
Yeah not sure that's a great idea. There MAY be comb filtering. But if you choose different amps and have them hard panned it may not be that audible. Summing to mono could present an issue though.
I’m using all of your captures btw. They are great! Any chance you could do a phase aligned tonex one to big box version of at least the clean captures? 😊
Sooo awesome! Thank you. But unfortunately no, not likely going to try to match the phase on those. I think it would be best for folks just to get two of the small ones and call it good. I did another test and the time difference between TONEX ONE and TONEX Pedal is less an a millisecond. Enough to be annoying and add comb filtering, but not enough to be able to accurately fix that issue.
Yeah just enough to be annoying. I’m thinking long term maybe 2 tonex ones for amps and use my big box for drives. Thanks!
Great video. Are you going to replace your ToneX's with Tonex ones?
Yes, most likely. But I may keep one of the Big Box TONEX pedals on just for drive captures that I can control with midi
hey love your videos. Great stuff. Just a question. If you want to compare tones between tonex and big box, why did you have to record the guitar playing twice on logic? Cause that would be inaccurate to compare. You could just re-amp? and have two identical recordings with two different amps (tones).
Thanks my friend! And I didn't play twice. I recorded the same guitar through both pedals simultaneously using a splitter.
Bought the guitar and also the bass packs! can't wait to try them when the Tonex One arrives! Will you also capture the Lamb pedal? Thanks!
You rock Andy! More bass captures coming SOOON too! (Which you'll get for free). I plan to do a wide variety of gain settings on the Aguilar and the Kilt. And yes, I'll be doing another set of captures on all my extra drive pedals not currently on my board.
@@thetoneshepherd that would be awesome!
@thetoneshepherd I have 2 bigger TONEX pedals, but I bought two Tonex Ones in order to use them as drive pedals. I get the feeling that IK smashed it with this pedal and it will probably sell like crazy!
100% but consider using the big box for drives! That way, you can load in a ton of them and control them via midi
@@thetoneshepherd I don't have a midi controller and I prefer to keep my pedalboard to medium sized (Mono Medium). So the mini Tonex helps me place it easier where the drives sit.
Great video! Very informative. One question though, does Tonex One use the same computer app as the Big box Tonex or is that a separate download and installation?
Same exact app. And if you have both the big box and small one plugged in at the same time you can just toggle between the two in the Librarian section where you load in presets. That’s covered in the video at some point…I know it’s long 😂
Yes, I did see that but thought you were toggling between two Tonex Ones. Thanks for the reply. I've already done a bit of work with the big box and I'd hate to start over with a new app so this is great news. Thanks again.
Great review! One question though...
Is it possible to split the output signal in Amp with CabSim and without CabSim? So you can use one for your cabinet on stage and the other to feed FOH directly. Thx
Thanks! Unfortunately, no. The cab is locked on or off to both outs.
Awesome video man! One set of questions I had - when controlling reverb, does it default to one type (I.e. spring, plate, etc.)? Does it let you dive into the detailed settings like predelay, mix, time? Or is that all stuff you can set ahead of time as a preset, then when loaded onto ToneX One, it keeps those settings? Thanks in advance!
Thanks a ton! The only parameter you can control on the pedal itself is the reverb mix. However, as you suspected, you can dial in all those other settings on the software and then transfer them to the pedal. 👌🏼
@@thetoneshepherd gotcha, thanks again!
@@arcarsenal72 No prob!
So would you recommend this as a good plug and play option? Meaning that besides having to load a capture and adjusting the input trim/eq, you wouldn’t have to constantly play with settings to make it sound good. I currently own a ToneX pedal but I’m not really satisfied with how it sounds. I never could get my ToneX pedal to sound great like everyone hyped it up to be. Personally, I’m not a fan of scrolling through menus for hours so I never really bonded with my ToneX. I was considering selling it but I’d hate to lose a potentially great piece of gear just because of user error and the lack of time to sit down with it to finally find the right settings to adjust. I love the idea of the ToneX one (for my mini board project to use on Wednesday youth services) and it seems to not have as many settings as its big brother, I’m just not sure about it due to my experience with ToneX so far.
It's all about finding the right capture. For me and my pedalboard, my personal amp captures need little to no adjustment. In fact, I'm running my Prosonic and AC30 captures completely stock right now with the only adjustment being Input Trim (+8.5). So the "constant tweaking" doesn't have to be a thing. Again, it's about finding the right capture for you.
Excellent tutorial video !! Awesome but no MIDI is a big bummer 😢 Hiw many pedals does this make obsolete? Iridium, walrus, simplified, etc. 😮
It wouldn’t make business sense for IK to put everything the big box could do in a smaller enclosure for less than half the price. There has to be some compromise somewhere. But even without midi I think it’s still a steal!
@@thetoneshepherdThanks and great point. Also, thanks so much for your comments at the end “do you you NEED it or want it…” love that advice.
Absolutely my brother. Definitely important to talk about. I’m honored you listened to the end 🫶🏻🙏🏼
Hi, Great video. Quick question, in browsing mode instead of having 20 presets could you have just 4 presets and cycle through them 4 only without going through 20 slots? Thanks
No you can’t. But I can see how that may be helpful. I think the best thing to do is just to keep all the colors consistent in a way that makes sense to you. Keeping preset 1 red; preset 2, blue; preset 3 yellow, etc. However you wanted to think about it, so that you remember which color is which preset number. The colors stay with the preset number, not the preset itself.
Great vid and - thank you for keeping your guitar in tune. It’s getting so incredibly painful to hear just a second or two of most pedal demo vids where the demonstrators guitar is whacked. There are even people trying to justify they’re being out of tune and then there are the great many that can’t even hear it and for that matter, have no business whatsoever posting videos. Anyway, I have and love the big box and just ordered one of these - thank you! 🤜💥🤛
No problem! I'm a big fan of the Three "T"s: Tone, Timing, Tune!
Awesome video!! So theoretically, would I need two for amps and two for cabs to run my rig in stereo?
No way! This has cabs built in! Just need two
Wow! Might have to put the UA Ruby on the sidelines for a while. Thanks man!
@@jonnythekid6869 you got it bro!
I'm a little confused about the input trim and preset volumes, and where to set things for optimal preset and tone model input to have them sound the best. Any insight on those? As well as input and output in the actual Tonex app
Yes, this is a very common issue with ToneX. But check out this video and let me know if it helps!
ua-cam.com/video/J_J8HkoIIks/v-deo.html
crying bc i’m still using the kemper toaster 💀🙏🏼😭
HOLD THE LINE! hahaha
BTW: one other question but I noticed this comes with Tonex SE software, which I read states that you can can create captures with it? Have you used Tonex SE to capture anything yet? Are there any limitations on what it can (vs can't) capture?
You can create captures with the software but you also need a reamp box like the TONEX Capture or some other kind of reamp device. I've made several captures with great success! www.thetoneshepherd.com/store/tonex
@@thetoneshepherd nice! I have a scarlett focusrite 2i2 - not sure if that would work.
It would not I don’t think. You do need an interface too, but a reamp device is also necessary…I think. (Someone correct me if I’m wrong!)
This is impressive! Is the Benson Preamp demo based on a ToneX "stock" Benson Preamp effect? Or is that one of your own (from a capture, etc)?
That's my own Benson Preamp. All the drive captures you heard are my personal drives I have on my board right now.
@@thetoneshepherd very nice! It sounds amazing and the ToneX One seems to be a very good value too!
It’s a heck of a value for sure!
@@thetoneshepherd It would have been really neat if they implemented MIDI over USB on this :)
They thought about it. But cost would have gone up too much for the part they needed.
I’m impressed! But Ryan on 60-Cycle Hum will find something to hate about it. Guaranteed.
Without question hahaha
IK better fix the license transfer! there will be a lot of people unloading the big boxes soon 😅
For REAAALZ hahaha
What about polarity? Say you get 2 pedals and want a Fender on left and Vox on right?
If you have my captures, they come in polarity with each other! But yes, if you have other captures that are out of polarity, you'll need to reverse one on your DAW, FOH console, or with a DISO+ PolRev from Pinstripe pedals.
Dad gum I bought the UAFX dream 65 and Ruby 63 6 months ago two of these would blow them away for a fraction of the cost
Isn’t it nuts?!
I’m in the middle of building a new board and have a free spot *exactly* the right size for two of these. #godsplan
AMEN & AMEN
I sincerely appreciate your Final Thoughts and subscribed.
Thanks a ton for watching to the end. Glad the ending thoughts were encouraging to you 🙏🏻
Would it be possible to use 2 ToneX Ones and a pair of TRS->Dual Mono cables (one for each output) to split to my DISO, and a headphone out under my board to either plugged headphones directly in or to something like a Slow Bear?
I am an idiot. I can just run the output of my Daiso plus left and right into something like the slow bear and be good to go.
This is it! With the Slow Gear you could put it before or after your DISO+, either way!
Is it possible just to use it as a gate / compressor / reverb pedal, without the amp.profile?
I was thinking about that myself. I could capture a clean preamp and then you’d have comp, gate, verb, and EQ to play with. Likewise you could just load in an IR and use it with acoustic guitar!
Yes, that was the idea, to use it sometimes as a compressor before a EHX C9 or Key 9 series , but have also a pedal that could work as a amp profile on a Acoustic amp I have. But also as a compressor and reverb for a small battery amp like my Boss Katana Mini, since it can be powered by a powerbank, but it cannot act like a booster or else the Acoustic sound would be gone. Maybe even without an IR would be best. Thx@@thetoneshepherd
Now that I have one big one it’s either sell it and get this or commit to getting another big one
Don't sell it! Buy two TONEX ONEs for amps and then use the big box just for drives that you control with MIDI.
I have an HX stomp and have had it for years. I'm a set it and forget it guy with my amp. Should I sell my HX stomp since ToneX one is way cheaper? Do you think the ToneX one is a step down in amp quality compared to the HX stomp?
Use the Tonex One in the fx loop of the HX stomp. Tonex captures > Line 6 Modeling
Totally!
No no. Tonex with the right capture is a step UP in my opinion.
A question, i was gonna buy Fractal Audio FM3 Turbo MkII, but i've now instead ordered Tonex One....Is it waste of money to buy Fractal too and use them both? or can this this little Tonex One stand alone. I know that with FM3 i can make sooo much more and and with Tonex One i can "steal" sounds
They’re both very very different things. But you can use them both together if you’d like! Use the FM9 for effects and the ToneX for your amp
You'll need about ten ToneX ONEs to come close to matching the Fractal...and even with ten you won't have FX.
@@guitartoneSA This is true. And also…these are completely different tools. On purpose.
Literally me too 💀
I got a riser and everything haha
Same. Same. But hey, now we can fit more pedals there haha
lo necesito, le pondré un Klon
This is crazy
..how does this compare to boss ir2?
Great question! I don't have an IR2 but if you can find a regular big box TONEX comparison then the TONEX ONE will be the same
IK Multimedia could have made one pedal that runs dual captures in stereo, this size. Now that would have been a revelation.
Haha, I mean, that’s asking a lot out of something this size. I think they killed it with this one for the price/size. Although, yes, I still would love to see a stereo device at some point.
Where do you set the compressor on the One? I’m having trouble matching volume between the One and the big box, and the compression seems to be about the only thing that can raise the volume. My normal setting is compression off on the big box.
Make sure you set the Global Volume up pretty high. I don't touch the compressor at all on either the ONE or the Big Box
@@thetoneshepherd My levels are way different between the two of if I have the compressor down. Very strange.
@@thetoneshepherd Scratch it. I reloaded the capture and it’s fine. 🤦🏻♂️
Oh sweet! So glad you got it worked out. The way "Tone Models" and "Presets" work on the ToneX software can be a bit confusing and can lead to some accidental parameter changes. Reloading is always a good option if something's not quite right.
@@thetoneshepherd Apparently this has happened to others. Just needs a reload of the capture and it fixes it.
may have missed this, is there a “lock” feature like the big box? with the auto save, the lock feature would be essential to prevent inadvertent change when playing live.
found it!
Yep!! It’s rad!
#impressed
You know it Keith! This thing RULES
Do I need reverse polarity option on my diso if I bought two of these?
Only if you use captures that are out of polarity. All my captures, for example, are in polarity. But yes, if you want to explore the wide world of captures from many different people, then a DSIO+ with PolRev will be quite helpful!
@@thetoneshepherd well I purchased two of them and was also planning on purchasing your captures so guess I’m in good hands. :)
YESS!!! You’re gonna love them!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Is it possible to control it via MIDI through the USB output?
Goooood question! The current manual doesn't mention that but maaaaybe it could be possible later with a software update? Not sure.
@@thetoneshepherd If you have time and can, please, test the USB MIDI, send some PC commands to it testing some MIDI channels to see if it switches the preset. I'm curious about this to know if it could change between one drive and another via the MIDI controller. If it changes the preset when connected to the computer, the chance is high that it will change if connected to a controller.
EDIT: I confirmed with IK that there's no MIDI over USB on TONEX ONE. So sorry!
@@thetoneshepherd thanks!
What is the latency?
Check this one out:
ua-cam.com/video/UfXL9PiO7h0/v-deo.html
@@thetoneshepherd Hi. I saw this video. And from what I got is that ToneX One is 1ms quicker than the ToneX big box. What my question is what is the OVERALL latency of the ToneX One since it's a digital pedal. I usually get massive latencies when I plug in digital pedals. I just want to know if I stack up a rig on ToneX One, will it cause like 60ms latency, that wasn't really clear in the video. I hope I was able to articulate my question 😁
That’s answered in that video too 😂 but the short answer is around 3ms. I redid the calculations and the big box is about 3.25ms and the ONE is about 3ms. So they’re closer than I originally thought but the ONE is still a tick faster.
@@thetoneshepherd Oh I must've misunderstood it! Thanks a lot for clearing it up! Absolutely LOVED your video by the way! Exactly what I was looking for! Subscribed and will be following your content! Kudos!
You got it brother!! Thanks a ton again!
Guitar Tech Is getting crazy haha
You're not wrong!
oh..its very affordable , ill buy 3 ! 600eu...lmao !
Well, I know it's still a few hundred dollars, but compared to what a Kemper costs!? It's a bargain.
I understand it's a pedal for a daw, not an amp. Perfect for home studio or UA-cam, but not suitable for live playing with a classic amp.
You can absolutely use it with a tube amp, just put overdrive captures on it instead of amp models 🤙🏼
You mean the mediocre just got more mediocre
Tonex is garbage
Sounds like someone hasn't found the right capture!
The right capture is everything
Who peed in your Cheerios this morning?
