In A Wounded Fawn, a woman is invited to spend the weekend with her new beau, but what she doesn't know - he's a serial killer. When the shoes drops, our story takes a surprise turn into a bizarre surrealistic direction that leaves us wondering what the heck happened in the end. We're breaking down the story, including the important references to art and mythology, what the Furies are all about and explaining the ending.

Never thought I’d see Josh Ruben, the guy with the funny sounds, play a deranged serial killer. It’s incredibly impressive.
im so excited to see him in a role like this ngl. from weird animal sounds to horror.
Was just heading to imdb to confirm! He's amazing.
My Precious Plum was all I could think
I remember him saying " monseur lapeudit"
Same! I remember him from his Collegehumor days!
The fact that she keeps seeing creepy ghosts and shit but just shrugs it off every time is so funny to me 😂
Yeah she's not so good with the red flags
Admittedly, if you deal with this everyday... You end up thinking more of, "F***, they'll bother me more", than, "Why are they here?"which could have saved her ass and time...
Admittedly it is funny but I think in context of the movie it's supposed to represent how women are taught that they are overreacting And too emotional. He basically gaslights her into staying by convincing her she's being irrational. True in this case in the movie it's taking it to an exaggerated level. If I'm seeing ghosts and stuff I'm out of there but as a metaphor for how women are willing to dismiss things for the sake of politeness and propriety in real life it's pretty apt

I wonder how many people have died because they chose etiquette over getting out of Dodge. Well, no, “chose” is the wrong word; more “felt pressured to choose etiquette”.
@@greywalker505 that's why I'm totally here for the Baby its Cold Outside is actually a super creepy song argument. She wants to leave dude, she'll wear a jacket and get an Uber just take a hint.
Holy shit it's Josh Ruben from college humor!!! Wow good for him!
Literally, the second I saw his face in this video, I was like, "Is that... College Humor's Josh Ruben?? HELL YEAH, MAN"
I thought that too!
@@HanariKamite his grammar nazi sketch was iconic
@@neardarkroad1347 I was thinking about this, “is that the grammar nazi dude?”
He directed the comedy Werewolves Within
Hi, art historian here! The mask of the red-haired woman actually looks like it's modeled off of actual masks that the Ancient Greeks wore during theatrical performances. The gaping mouth was actually used as a natural microphone to annunciate the words of the actors while they performed in large arenas. Pretty interesting choice from the costuming department, great detail!
I've never seen so many glimpses of the supernatural so early or often, though it does make sense that the victims were not f*cking around when it came to trying to warn Meredith.
I also have to say, seeing a serial killer die slowly during the credits is immensely satisfying
That is poetic justice
The ghosts have actually watched slasher movies so they realise:
“Wait… he’s a serial killer… she fell for a trap… FUCKING HELL LADY DO YOU NOT KNOW WHAT A RED FLAG IS!? HAVE YOI NEVER WATCHED A MOVIE”

Josh Ruben is such an amazing actor, the range on the dude is insane
The ending where he’s flopping around is just silly. How actors think this type of “acting” is worth the money, is beyond me. You really do whore yourself out to participate in this kind of crap.
Josh Ruben doing horror?! He was my favorite CH cast member.
Tbf he's done horror for quite some time. Dude peed on a guy's butt.
I was floored seeing him i haven’t kept up with him since he left CH

It’s nice to see a guy from college humour to get better work
I was honestly surprised to see him in this, I'm so used to his work with CH, especially his impressions
Super stoked for him. 🤙
There’s a decent handful of people from CH that moved on too Saturday night live and more professional productions
@@ChunianOfficial didn’t know that nice
I wonder if they had him do the sound effects too. Lol
Awesome to see Josh Ruben from College Humor making a break into the big screen. I hope this movie gets received well along with his performance. It does feel a little weird watching someone your used to making comedy sketches playing a serial killer but I hope he’s able to transcend his type cast!
He also directed Werewolves Within! A great movie. He’s such a versatile artist.
He did Scare Me too, tgat was awesome
Trippy! I like that it's not just another final girl movie, but a true representation of the wrath his victims feel mixed with ancient legends and his own loss of power and sanity!
My understanding was that Orestes was bound by duty to avenge the murder of his father at the hands of his mother, but was likewise bound by duty to not engage in kinslaying meaning he was trapped in a no win situation. While he did end up killing his mother in revenge and violating the taboo on kinslaying, it was ultimately determined by the gods to not be his fault. All of this is to say that it is not exactly a fair comparison to superimpose a serial killer onto Orestes and the Orestia.
And the anal award goes to...you Luke,it goes to you.
@@chitownhustler3372 Fair’s fair.
As a feminist, I hate when people take stories like this and twist them in order to make them all about "girl power." That's not a good story to use that for. I mean we have what happened to Medusa, and Zeus raping Persephone, or Hades kidnapping her. We don't need to twist other stories to talk about violence against women.
thanks youuuuu i love this myth an to watch such a bad comparison kill me xD. But in the Orest kill his cousin ( the son of achilles ) to marry Hemione , the god try to sen the furie but they refuses.
There are four separate tellings and they aren't all the same.
Hahaha the stand with the literal red flags was hilarious. Totally on point to throw that in.
Fun fact for Orestes; his father was killed by Clytemnestra, his mother. His sister was tricked into being a sacrifice by her father to start the Illiad and, in her grief and fury, promised her husband she'd kill him for it. Sure enough, 10 years later when the torjan war ends, she and her bf kill him. Orestes was bound to avenge his dad, but youre not suppose to kill family.
This is also where Cassandra comes in because Menelaus (I think it was him) brought her home as a sex slave. So dude had it coming. Honestly, Clytemnesta was in the right.
It was Agamemnon who kidnapped Cassandra. Menelaus is Helen of Troy's husband
Also, one of the major points is that Clytemnestra is sleeping with Agamemnon's cousin and they both conspire to kill him in his bathtub. She wasn't nearly so innocent, which is why the entire legend is about the founding of the Athenian court system (it's a really funny origin myth actually).
It wasn’t Menaleus- it was that bitch Aggamemnon. And she didn’t want to be there but got killed either way
@@forerunner0015 Our definition of fun is different. My definition of fun doesn't involve a confusion of murders.
@@melanisticmandalorian8909 The legend may be a tragedy, but the idea is still fun (interesting to say the least) as an explanation of a legal system. The Oresteia takes an older legend/cultural story, and morphs it into a play that has some genuinely comedic elements. If you read it, you can see first hand how the gods and Erinyes act as lawyers straight out of Suits. It is pretty fun. Also, there is no confusion of murders at all, the issue is whether or not the traditional system at the time can handle familial blood-for-blood retribution (it can't), and has to make way for advocacy. It's in the same vein the Medieval "Harrowing of Hell" plays played out to explain a rather complex part of Christian 'mythology' in a way that comes across as funny in modern terms. In that, you have Jesus take demons and Satan to town through 'legal speak' until Satan just say's no. At which point Jesus calls in an enforcer. It is a funny story.
I remember screaming to myself when he "killed" the second girl "No! You were my final girl!!"
Fun little fact, metal artist Methwitch (Cameron mcbride) contributed to the music during the stove creature fight scene, aswell as providing subtle screams to the credits music. Highly advise checking out Cameron's solo stuff, he is an incredibly talented and unknown artist. Projects include: methwitch, bleach wave, your ghost in glass, cam.tbh, brid3, and voidgasm
You know... even though I don't watch horror movies because I have a strong over active imagination. I love your explanations, they are very fascinating. The break downs are so good.
I'm the same. Can't do horror. But I can put lets players and FoundFlixs in the background and it's okay. Horror movies and games actually have some VERY interesting plots, ngl.
@@IceQueen975 exactly, completely agree with you. 👍
I don’t watch the movies. I get more out of these reviews 😊
that's why I love this channel! I get a breakdown of fascinating stories and a really cool art form that I wouldn't be able to access otherwise.
You missed that he was prepping a pomegranate!
In Greek mythology, when Persephone is kidnapped down to Hades, Hades unknowingly tempts her to stay in the land of the dead. She ends up eating a few seeds from a POMEGRANATE.
Bruce is inviting Meredith to the land of the dead because he wants to kill her.
Honestly the weird fucking thing under the owl mask is where it got me- I laughed so loud, I love that "fuckhead going mad from repeated head trauma" has visions that are spooky and strange and- and also sometimes real fucking silly. Fucking comedy gold. Also, the revenge-porn of the erinyes torturing a serial killer in the night with surreal art shit, leading to him being outed as a sad, pathetic, jealous fucking sadsack, just like every serial killer in real life? FUCKING YES.
The Leonora carrington work was my fav takeaway from this video, love the weird style that makes you feel a little unsettled but really intrigued at the same time
A 26-minute foundflix video? This made my day.
I was so excited to see Josh in this roll. For anyone who loved him with college humor and loved him, he's still with them on drop out now!
Role*
I really like the detail of the furies in the statue representing the three women he becomes haunted by in his state. Kate makes dog sounds and doglike behavior for the dog one, The one with the wirey hair is Meredith, and the final is Leonora.
IIRC, the mc in the original play, Orestes, killed his mother as vengence for killing his father, Agamemnon under the order of Apollo. Now, while the killing is done under Apollo'sorder, in ancient Greek, killing your family members is a big no no. So, he was chased by Furies, tormented until he arrive at Athens, basically enter a court trial by Athena, bla2, win the trial by not being killed by the Fury.
Oh hey I remember the OSP episode of this
In Greco-Roman mythology, the gods demand you kill the murderer of a family member.
If the murderer is also a family member, you’re then cursed for killing them.
No-win situation.
Really cool to see Josh Ruben making it in Hollywood.
So looking at her paintings is like awaking up during the Witching Hour of 3am and 4am and "seeing" in the corner of your room
"OH BOY, ITS 3 AM!"
Waking up at 3 AM? How do I wake up when I'm already awake 🧐
@@marcusmiro7481 once again if the reference is not made clear **AHEM**
Oh boy. 3 ay em.
There is also the idea that to allow the furies to take their wrath that a living entity (seemingly Meredith in this case) needs to be a willing vessel for the furies to be able to do their thing so to speak :)
Since the concept of the Erinyes is greek, I can’t help but tie the Pomegranates on his counter to Persephone, queen of the underworld and goddess of spring and flowers
And she's stuck having to go to hades' realm once a year for half the year. I think his killings is linked to the pomegranate where he only rests after he's killed.
I enjoy listening to these every Sunday as I get ready for the week
A nice change of pace to watch a murderer get tortured and driven mad. I approve. Great acting all around and crazy practical stuff.
I just love your work. I fall asleep listening to your voice all the time. Your very thorough and interestingly unique at how you explain all these movies. Great job 👍
Pair this with Hard Candy and you definitely get a vengeful spirit making a guilty person uncomfortable enough to hurt themselves feel.
So next time a spooky dog runs in front of you before your first date to a secluded cabin with a relative stranger, you'll turn around and go back inside!
Fun fact! Josh Ruben actually dubbed over all the voice lines in this movie, as well as the sfx. Everything you hear? That's Josh.
W comment
I think it's interesting he sees an owl, the symbol of Athena, who in Oresteia ultimately sets Orestes free of his punishment
Lmao she saw so many ghosts but just acted like this was completely normal 👻👻😂😂

There’s a recording on UA-cam from like the 80s of the play “The Orestia” (which was quoted earlier) and this mask looks like the masks the actors wore. The furies even had red hair in the play!
Josh Ruben is one of the funniest and most underrated actors on the planet and it's weird seeing him as a serial killer.
Josh Ruben wrote and starred in “Scare Me” which is an awesome movie. Funny and original. Highly recommended
its also worth noting that Orestes only killed his mom because she killed his dad Agamemnon. he had honestly thought he was doing the right thing in avenging his father's death, not realizing that she killed the man because he killed their daughter in order to go fight in the Trojan War. on top of that, both Apollo and Athena vouch for him, the latter suggesting he be tried in the first ever official court of law in Athens, and the outcomes ends with him acquitted. when the Furies threaten to torture all of Athens as payback, Athena instead suggests they take up the role as protectors of justice rather than just a furious vengeance, thus earning them the name Semnai, or Venerable Ones.
Even more fun is that its like that THIS is the true role they play in the movie. not jsut spirits of vengeance, but defends of justice punishing the serial killer for his crimes.
Love the College Humor video where Josh plays a woman who is a Macrame artist that is terrified of owls. Now he’s in a movie where he worships one 😂
Honestly, Greek play style story telling needs to make a comeback.
Literally was looking for a video about this movie about a week ago! Thank you so much!

No matter how sad you can be, put a FoundFlix vid on and it will cheer you up
I don’t know why that owl was possibly the scariest horror movie entity I’ve seen in this new era
The owl is traditionally a symbol of wisdom, and symbol of philosophy...It has nothing to do with "fawn", that word has two meanings in English and neither is connected with an owl. I don't know why the filmmakers use that menacing humanoid owl, it is creepy, but there were so many much more terrifying entities in horror movies lately. One especially scary entity is shown in the film " No one gets alive", I think British horror that was made in 2021.
@@ozymandiasultor9480 the bear in annihilation was scarier than the owl, although he wasn't an entity just a monster.. but, you know, horror is relative
@@dani.892 Oh, yes...I agree... The bear, especially with those sounds that were (i suppose) the last words of its victim was certainly much scarier.
@@ozymandiasultor9480 thanks for the explanation and I’ll have to check that movie out.

Thank you I was waiting for a breakdown since I watched this in December!
This was all done so well… makes me want a Medusa movie when you know the whole story
She was taken advantage of, sought shelter in Athena’s temple and Athena blamed HER for being taken advantage of (I think by zues) so she was turned into Medusa - the hideous creature. Women being awful to each other. Would love to see this story told.
I thought it was posiedon?
The story of Medusa is kinda sad what happened was Poseidon tried to get another girl who didn’t want to be with him so she begged Athena to save Athena heard her pleas and turned her into a raven if I remember correctly. Poseidon mad that he couldn’t get the girl end up sleeping with Medusa in Athena’s temple in revenge Athena seeing what happened in her temple was disgusted cursed medusa causing her to become what she was.
@thegothicslime2982 Athena, for all intents, was never a Goddess on her own terms. She was never women's woman. She was her daddy's girl. She cared about winning.
Josh Ruben, from “Precious Plum”!? Omg, no way. LOVE HIM. I hope his acting career is successful.

Holy shit that’s josh he did the honey gogo parody in college humor fucking hell his insanely good as a serial killer
From the cinematography & this looking like an older horror flick, I probably wouldn't have watched it nor do I even feel compelled to watch it now & again, it's just for the reasons I've stated... However, it never fails, YOU some how suck me into the movie & I end up enjoying it. It's just something about how YOU (in particular) recap a movie that keeps me interested, intrigued & yet also very entertained...😂😂😂 I'm one of those few (quirky) people who actually like hearing movie spoilers bc then I won't waste my time being distracted by something mundane and unimpressed over something that I actually should be paying more attention to. Long story short, I, if no one ever expresses this to or about you, appreciate you and of course your channel so much. Thank You!!!
