  • Amazing Woodworking Techniques that carpenters do in joining wood. In the manufacture of construction, there are those who prioritize beauty and maximize strength, namely the combination of art with the skills of carpenters in creating extraordinary things. This angled technique is a technique of connecting wood that is interlocked using a center thorn. I will show how the wood connection technique that I do using a chisel. I work in the traditional way. I did this work with a tool you will know is incredibly easy to understand.

    Exceptional video. Learned so much just by watching. Can't wait to go and try this on some scrap wood. Thanks!

    The joint fit in nicely but somehow fragile, it may be suitable for wooden cabinets but not for tables or other heavy duty objects.

    If the actual tenon piece is used as a base it'll be fine for use in table applications as... it's a table it's going to be fixed to a table top so the main weakness of a mortise and tenon has been excluded. Ignore all the salty comments from people that clearly can't recreate your work.

    Sharp chisel is essential and makes clean cuts too !

    I'm afraid that this has an obvious design flaw.
    The last piece with the skinny square tenon projecting through the joint is a significant stress raiser.
    I foresee the tenon snapping off in the future.

      Смотря как будет распределена нагрузка. Нагрузка на элемент с шипом должна быть вертикальной, это может быть ножка у стола. Ну, и если это всё смазать клеем, то шип должен выдержать.

      Yes, I understand what you mean. I did think afterwards that the glue might save the joint.

    • @M2164532
      @M2164532 2 роки тому +1

      Glue is not so necessary, but of course it makes construction stronger. The point is that we have to have the detail with square tennon vertically. So gravity will help us and two other pieces will work similar to traditional pinned mortice and tennon joit. In that case skinny square tennon will be very strong pin.

    I love techniques like this, but I also love epoxy work as well. I have an idea to make a standard in the workshop I am trying to start this year where I do things like this, but instead of wood pegs, use epoxy to fill those peg-holes for a strong hold and unique look. But I am not sure if my idea is actually feasible....do you think, in your professional opinion, that something like this is a good idea?

    • @constantinosschinas4503
      @constantinosschinas4503 2 роки тому

      In many cases pegs/keys add strength, finish and rigidity to the joint by compressing fibers, bringing the joint tighter and so on. Guess you can experiment with acrylic pegs plus epoxy with same colour/refraction or pre-cast adequate pegs and finish with the same epoxy, to achieve your desired look. Make sure you use epoxy that has decent elasticity, to avoid cracks while forcing the pegs in and withstand the shearing loads, when needed. You may find that W walled (extruded triangles) pre-cast pegs work better for your application, so that the final epoxy pouring has space to go everywhere and leave you with a clear, unobtrusive glass appearance.

    I noticed you did a fair amount of chiseling against your grain, going with the grain, and using techniques such as paring to cut fibres will prevent tearouts and produce a nicer finish, no?

    • @AJD09FB
      @AJD09FB 2 роки тому

      As well as chiseling from both sides of the work piece, to avoid tearout; and marking out using a knife, to get really crisp lines on the finished joint. The gaps on this one were excessive, imo.
