Great suggestions all. I'll chime in and suggest two more, both memoirs by elite women runners, both American. Bravey: Chasing Dreams, Befriending Pain, and Other Big Ideas by Alexi Pappas who was born and raised in California but competed in the 10,000 meters representing Greece at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. Also, Choosing to Run by Des Linden who won the 2018 Boston Marathon. Both amazing women who are great athletes and human beings.
My all-time favourite running book is 'Just a Little Run Around the Wolrd' by Rosie Swale Pope - I feel like Flora's audience would love it too - definitely recommend! 🥰
Natural born heros is my absolute favourite Chris M book so inspiring. Thanks for the list i was looking for some more audio books to listen to. I just started rise of the ultra runner and Kilian Jornets book above the clouds.
Great video Flora. Fantastic recommendation for all trail runners out there is “Over the Hill at 60 Something” .. It’s about an inspiring man running all of the Wainwrights in the Lake District.. Beautifully illustrated and written 😍
Great suggestions, I've read two of the three McDougall books and enjoyed both, Natural Born Heroes was definitely a unique read. I've just started Lauren Fleshman's book and I'm loving it so far. I would also recommend Kara Goucher's book, The Longest Race. Thank you!
must listen is Running on Empty from Marshall Ulrich. Incredible stories all in one book easy to listen ! A MUST for long distance runner ! 🏃🏻♂🏃🏻♂🏃🏻♂🏃🏻♂🗣🎖🎖☀👍🏻❤
A normal person whose parents are both Olympians! Haha.....anyway...I've read at least half of these, probably more like 2/3 of them. You've got 3 McDougalls, 2 of which I've read. I agree with your choices, love the Askwith one (all of his could be on here), love the Finn (again, all 3 of his books are great), A couple I haven't considered until now, showing the female perspective, might get me reading in some new directions. Thank you! Hope your recovery is going well.
Great list. My all time favourite has to be Dean Karnaze's "Ultra Marathon Man". Laugh out loud funny, one of those books you whiz through in a few reads ! Another good title is Nick Butter's "Running The World" You need to write a good 'Coffee table' hardback on Chamonix Flora ! Take care
Ah brill, thanks Johm! Ultra marathon man is on my wishlist already and I have Nick's book, but I've not had the chance to read it yet. Haha im not sure what I'd say in a book that hasn't been said already! 🙈
Both Kara Goucher and Des Linden have books out on Audible, and they're excellent listens. I just finished HIllary Allen's book, and it was really good. Talk about conquering adversity. I'm right now listening to Peter Sagal's "The Incomplete Book of Runining" and it has me laughing out loud at times. He finished the 2013 Boston Marathon 5 minutes before the bombs went off. A good listen so far.
I finished Born to Run literally two hours ago, so this couldn't have come out at a better time! I usually enjoy physical books, but I am tempted to try out Audible and listen to some of these while out on walks/easy runs or while cooking/cleaning the house!
Great recommendations, thank you. I love the Murakami book. I’ve rss it 3 or 4 times. I recommend What Makes Olga Run by Bruce Grierson. He’s a journalist and became friends with Olga. She took up running and Track and Field in her 70s…traveled the world competing and taking home lots of medals. It’s all about her approach to life and relationships and what makes for a very good life. Well worth the read.
Some good recommendations there, I have Anna McNuffs book in my pile of things to read so glad to hear you enjoyed it :) One person i'd say to put on your list is Nick Butter. I haven't read either of his books yet (Running the World and Run Britain) but I saw him do a talk a couple of years ago about his running journey to run a marathon in every country of the world and what he went through, was incredibly inspirational and really enjoyed his talk so am wholly expecting his books to be of the same. :)
Thanks for this list! Lots of books I haven't read/listened to yet, so I can't wait to get to them 😍 One of my all-time favorite books is Bravey by Alexi Pappas, can highly recommend that one!
One i dont see on these lists that often, but: My Year of Running Dangerously by Tom Foreman is great. Its about a 'normal' 50something guy training for his first marathon in decades so he can run it with his daughter. Foreman is a professional journalist so its written really well, and i think it captures the training experience of a non elite person juggling other commitments well. Pretty funny, too.
Mud, Rocks, Blazes: Letting Go on the Applachian Trail by Heather Anderson was so good and free to listen to on Audible. Also free is Coasting by Elise Downing which is about running the whole coast of Britain, and not running but really enjoyed listening to Wild by Cheryl Strayed.
Coasting by Elise Downing is really fun- tells her story of solo running round the coast of the UK. one of my fave lighthearted running books from the last year of reads 🏃🏼♀️
Lots added to my wish list ready to delve into so thanks for that. I'm currently listening to The Rise of the Ultra Runners and loving it! They're not strictly running books (although both are Ultrarunners) but David Goggins' books and Endure by Cameron Hanes are amazing examples of mental strength and discipline which really helped inspire me into get into running and Ultras.
Thank you for this, I enjoyed your last but not least (...heroes.. ) and will read your first one (endure). Love your books recommendation volg All the best for your next run.
Good to see taking it easy - hope the recovery is going well. The Irony is i always thought i'd hate audible, and something not for me, now i don't know what i'd do without it lol ! Some good reads Flora, equally enjoyed Solo. Although as for running books have you tried Iron War (i read the paperback) but i've also seen it on Audible. It's a great story about the 80'sTriathlete rivaly of Dave Scott and Mark Allen. Edit - You might also enjoy Limitless - Miami Anderson!
Great video Flora - I've only read 3 of these 15, so have added some other to my TBR. Next up for me though is We Can't Run Away From This by Damian Hall
The book that opened the ultra marathon universe doors to me was "Can't hurt me", by David Goggins. The audio version is actually much better. Listened to it twice; to say it inspired me is an understatement. "The perfect mile" is another great running book that comes to mind.
Currently listening to Richard Askwith The Race Against Time, very good and full of very interesting information especially for those like me who are a certain side of 50
Great video, definitely going to listen to a few of these🙏 a couple that I've listened to whilst running. In it for the long run by damian hall And not really about running but I really enjoyed listening to Wilding by isabella tree (mainly because it's a tough read but an easy listen and great content.

Ah brill, thank you for these recommendations!!
Thanks Flora - so helpful!! Looking forward to trying some of these to get me through my long runs
'born to run' got me into running. pretty inspiring
Such a wonderful video, Flora. Please share reading recommendations whenever you read something interesting.
My all-time favourite running book is 'Just a Little Run Around the Wolrd' by Rosie Swale Pope - I feel like Flora's audience would love it too - definitely recommend! 🥰
Oooh I'll add that to my wishlist, thank you! Sadly couldn't find an audiobook version though 🥲
Running with Sherman... it's so good 🙂 Hope recovery is going well Flora too. Te Araroa is amazing. You'd love it!
I am reading „good for a girl“ and loving it.
Ah brilliant! It is such a great book

This sounds great but I can't find it on audible sadly! :(
Thank you for the suggestions. I just finished "In it for the long run" by Damian Hall and it is brilliant.
Yes this is such a great book, can't believe I left it off this list!

Jason Koop Training Essentials for Ultrarunning. Cheers from Norway 🇳🇴.

Thank you, I've added a bunch to my list! I typically love real books, but I'm gearing up to train for a 100k, so I'll need all the help I can get!
Thanks for this list! Lots of books I haven't read/listened to yet, so I can't wait to get to them 😍

I've been looking for running related books so this came at the perfect time!
Muchas gracias!!, muy buenas sugerencias. 👍
Thanks for putting together my Christmas wish list for me!

I've read both books by Christopher McDougall and can thoroughly recommend them both!
Good afternoon. Run&Read. I liked the book: " Daniels Running Formula" and " Live, eat, run". Like to Flora from 🇪🇸. A nice week for everyone.
Have you heart of Up to Speed? It’s not specifically about running but women in sports. It’s brilliant.
I've not but will check it out!
Thank you for this, I enjoyed your last but not least (...heroes.. ) and will read your first one (endure). Love your books recommendation volg All the best for your next run.
This was just in time! I was looking for a new audiobook 😀
brilliant thanks for these 🙌

Oh thats a GREAT book. I read the paper version. Very important book, I should have added it here!
I loved murakami's book.

Born to Run is an incredible read. One of my absolute favourites!
SUCH a great book isn't it!

And not really about running but I really enjoyed listening to Wilding by isabella tree (mainly because it's a tough read but an easy listen and great content.
Those are 2 of my favourite books! Read them both in the last year I think :) thanks for the reminder!
Just finished Reborn on the run.
Ah yes I heard about this! Need to listen
Endure is an amazing read!
Finding Gobi is a great book
Far deeper set of great recommendations.
Finding Ultra?
