Writer: Irving Shulman
When a young Mexican-American in East Los Angeles uses the boxing ring to make a better life for himself and his family, he learns as much about being a Latino in white society as he does about boxing. Based on the novel by Irving Shulman, who also wrote the original treatment for Rebel Without a Cause.
Trivia: Features “The Golden Boy,” California boxing legend Art Aragon playing himself in his big screen debut.
A very good movie about dealing with both success and failure. The story is deep and complex. It’s rare to see a movie of this emotional and psychological calibre.
Really good film. Showed some of the harsh realities that people had to go through then (and still). Plus, it has Rita Moreno. 🙂
Hot Dang! Rita Moreno! What a firecracker she is!
Thank you Pizza Flix 😊
Excellent! I can’t wait to watch this! 👍🏻❤️
I turned 6 in 1952😊
I was 7 in 1952 lived in Pico Guardens. When i was about 9 or 10, my brother, a year older then i got on the 4th street bus with our shoe shine boxes and headed for down town LA to make a little money, 25 cents a shine to help mom with family expenses. About 1956 moved to East LA, went to Griffith Jr High School wearing Khaki pants and spit shine French toe shoes, going to after school gym dances listening to old 1950s Rock n Roll and slow Doo Wop music, and walking down Whittier Boulevard, great memories back then, thanks Pizza Filx 7-14-23
Great film. Thank you for introducing me to it. Your range of interesting and good films is a very generous gift. Plus Rita Moreno is just ravishing.

Movie time 🍿
I truly look forward to these. Reminds me of going to the theatre as a kid ... but not having to step in someone's spilled Coca-Cola. Thanks.

@@PizzaFLIX . You have a huge audience in Russia 🇷🇺 and I heard you hate Russians and that's terrible!
I recall seeing Rita Moreno from the time I was a child, example "The King and I", circa 1955-56. She was quite an attractive girl with her luscious Latino looks Yes, she was also in 'Pagan Love Song' with Esther Williams. Moreno, in her long illustrious career that spanned 1950 to the present always brought to her characters a paradoxical combo of toughness and fragility, which was the outcome of a life full of varied experiences but lacking in continuity. She won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 1961 for West Side Story. Her choice of films was a fine balance between art and commerce, a clever strategy. She was always of the opinion that "Life is what happens to you when you are busy making other plans". She had a tumultuous relationship with Marlon Brando that gave her many sleepless nights. No matter what setbacks she experienced in life, she always picked up the pieces and carried on. Today, she must be in her 90's and still active.
Thx P F 👍🇺🇸👍

I saw a boxing mat where one of the boxers had been hurt so badly that he had died the next day. Such a useless death 🥺🥺🥺😳😳😳😡😡😡

🤔🙄
He's a quitter. He lost his first bout in a ridiculously uneven match and threw in the towel. Even after putting at least $150 in his pocket. He deserves nothing.
Rita was 𝔾𝕆ℝ𝔾𝔼𝕆𝕌𝕊!
