    I dont use the red caps anymore, they were holding rainwater too much. I just wipe the fitting down before connection, seems to be ok. I have a H63 on the 303.5 and a H45 on the 301.7, both work great, the H63 is from 2005, still gets it done.

    NEVER grease a hammer that way. Always make sure the tool is depressed like you're ready to break material before greasing. Otherwise you will fill the cavity in between the piston and tool. Then when you fire it you could cause catastrophic failure to piston/cylinder.

    I’ve been reluctant to put a hammer in my 303 to avoid stress cracks on the stick.
    Obviously your not using it every day but what’s your thoughts on the wear and maintenance of using the hammer?

    • @fulltiltgrading8366
      @fulltiltgrading8366  3 роки тому +1

      In my opinion and experience a hammer is extremely hard on a machine. The only reason I own one it’s because the areas I work are very remote most of the time and it’s hard to find rental units available when I need them. I use mini excavators very hard in my line of work so I trade them in every two or three years. If you plan to keep the machine long-term I wouldn’t put one on it.

    One thing about doing How-To videos... if you miss a step you’ll be reminded! I read the comments... we both learned!
    I like How-To videos. I was watching one the other day... coincidentally, it was a dude who was putting on a hammer too. However, he was putting a wooden handle on an 8lb sledgehammer head. He got it started then commenced to beating it in with another hammer. About the time that I decided to leave a hint that it was better to turn the hammer upside down and hit the handle on a softer piece of wood... he miss hit it and mangled the edge.
    There wasn’t a slot in the encapsulated end of the head. When he went to drive the wedge he had a tough time getting it in. Once he got it started it followed the grain and was way off center. I was going to suggest that he slot it across grain to minimize splitting and ease the start of the wedge... before installing it...
    But, he was so proud that he got it put on... I just told him nice job!
    As far as excavator hammers go... my closest experience is a stubbed toe from walking around one at job site! So, I learned a lot. Thanx!!!

      I’m with you I always think of a suggestion to recommend when I watch videos but then just say it’s probably not worth it! At least people are out there trying.

    You should always have down pressure on the pin before you grease your hammer. If you don’t you could put grease in between the pin and the piston and when you operate the hammer the grease will take out the oil seal for the piston.
