It’s actually possible to survive this if your fluttering skills are good enough. If you manage to hold out, Baby Bowser starts walking backwards... and upside down. If you manage to REALLY hold out, then you’ll see him walk so far back that he becomes a blip, AND you’ll start seeing duplicates of him coming from the corners of the screen. If you manage to really REALLY hold out, then he eventually turns right side up again and starts walking forward again, while the duplicates vanish. There’s also a glitch where if you manage to defeat Baby Bowser after he destroys all the platforms, they never reappear for the subsequent cutscene and he just falls into the abyss. And because the game requires him to land on something before the cutscene continues, this causes the game to softlock.
In my opinion, this is by far THE SCARIEST Bowser boss fight in Mario history. It always scared the shit out of me when he would come running at me with full speed (it's even creepier when he is so far away, but gets to you and kills you in one run). Fun Fact: Baby Bowser in Yoshi's Island is the biggest Bowser ever made in a Mario game.
Looking back, this was indeed creepy at the time and still is, but this definitely showcased how powerful the SNES was, thanks to the Super FX 2 chip, even though this here is the GBA remake.

i swear this is the specific reason i feared this boss so much when i was younger, i mean the atmosphere is creepy enough, especially the music, because both just came out of nowhere in a game that's generally happy and cheerful-looking, and plus bowser walking ever so closer was really ominous, but the first time i played it and i failed that last shot and he ran full speed ahead into the ground, that's what truly kept me from beating the game for a month or so

And because the Internet wasn't a big thing back then, it was very hard to have endings of games spoiled for you, so I couldn't even be a little bit prepared for how scary this was going to be. 😂 I remember my hands squeezing the controller when he got super close. Especially on the big CRT TV I was playing it on. It felt like he was in your room.

This isn’t that scary, just alarming.
It’s because none of us expected him to get that close and destroy the platform, so it was a bit of a surprise.
