If there are funds left over, it may be refunded to the student to be used for indirect expenses (books, travel, misc, off-campus housing). You'll have pretty decent luck looking for scholarships for "non-traditional" students, but also consider approaching your local workforce development office (could be titled something different in your area) as they sometimes offer grants for people returning to school after a long hiatus/switching careers.
