I have had 3 Basset hounds in my life. They are very laid back dogs, stubborn, and lazy. I loved them to pieces. Great dogs for elderly or handicapped people. They could sleep through a hurricane or an earthquake and not twitch. If they frequent outdoors in the sun they smell. It's something in their skin, I think. They love to cuddle and have their stomach rubbed. I could go on, but I will not. Love their feet and ears too!!
It is amazing what can happen with time, patience, love and another friend to help you over the rough patches. Bless you all for showing this precious angel that not all humans are mean.
Gunther is a sweet, scared boy who's been hurt by humans and needed lots of time to heal and trust again, which he got from his new family, including his big brother, Joey. Thanks to them for saving Gunther-and thanks to Gunther for just being Gunther! 🐕🐾💗🏠
My 1st dog at 7 was a Basset Hounds, Ringo Star, of course... I loved that dog so much...They're the best, it would hear a train coming 10 mins before it pasted, he'd hold his snout up and BAYOooo! It was adorable. Not to my parents...lol
Thank you for being so patient, and allowing Gunther to find his footing in his brand new world. The day he, finally, started playing with you brought tears to my eyes. He knew he could let down his guard and just be a happy pooch!❤❤❤
This video makes me so happy yet also makes me tear up. Because this is exactly the experience I had 50 years ago when my sister returned home from college with Fred, a 1-year-old basset she rescued. He was absolutely terrified of everything and everybody. But after weeks of coaxing, cajoling and reassurance he became utterly devoted to me - and me to him. Best damn dog in the world. ❤️
I had a basset mix, he looked more basset. It took a while for him to come out and trust me, he was abused and hit by a car and my sister rescued him. I wouldn't hesitate to get another basset, they're wonderful pets.
Omg... My basset Daisy (mama rescue from breeding) passed 3 years ago, I still miss her every day. It took me a long time to gain her trust, I did the same thing with getting on the ground & hugging her. She would sniff my face the exact same way! She was the BEST dog & I'm still heartbroken. 🤍
@@loumason6120 Wow! Thank you for watching, it's not very good I made it on a whim for my niece. But it is a wild bunny that showed up in my backyard when she was very small. I started feeding her and one day I just held out my hand, she took it!! It's been almost 2 years. She actually seems offended if I just toss it to her. I swear she enjoys our little chats while she eats. I never miss an evening with her! I really wasn't aware it's uncommon for them to eat from your hand. That makes me feel super special! Thanks for sharing 🤍
@@loumason6120 I had a beagle before my basset hound! Both lovely dogs. But while I loved & adored my beagle she was the WORST! Chewed & tore up everything in my house including door jams, carpets, window screens, pillows, blankets, etc. She had severe separation anxiety, I'd take her with me (cool months) to run in the grocery store, come out and the entire armrest on my car door was hanging off, just chewed to bits?!! After she passed at 10 yrs old, my basset Daisy showed up. She was the absolute opposite, the best EVER! I felt like I paid my dues and was gifted an angel. Although she would bay occasionally at 3am outside on her own... 🤍
@@cindyp5132 yup you must be special for her to expect it hand fed haha. That's really cool..i like those rabbits, normally you see a jack rabbit but i think she's different
This is so beautiful❤️ I once went to visit Basset Hound puppies and playing with the adorable babies was like being in a Disney cartoon (Bassett hound pups are surprisingly heavy)❤️
I have adopted several Basset Hounds. They all had a problem of one kind or another. They are stubborn or self-spoiled but the sweetest personalities. I loved each of them immensely and in return i received their love and devotion. To me there is nothing nicer. They are not suited to everyone but if you are motivated by cuteness and little quirky personalities they are it!
It's always amazing & special when a fur baby finally trusts you! Thank you for giving him the love & patience he needed to realize he was safe & loved!
Thank you so much. Hearing him cry was heartbreaking. I love Bassets. My brother had one named Otis. This one looks a lot like him. He was so sweet. I’m sure this will work and I’m sure also that the other dog helped enormously. ❤
OMG, what on earth did this poor sweet pupper experience to become so distrustful of people. Thank you so much for making him feel so loved & safe, b/c he absolutely deserves it. He is such an adorable goofball with a heart of gold. Melted my heart watching him cuddling into you at the end. 😊🐶❤
This was so beautiful and heartwarming to see how this woman with help from her husband took such great care to help that beautiful Basset learn to trust and be a dog again.
Oh my gosh such adorable puppies!!! 🐶 thank you so much for sharing your story!! For the fostering you and your husband do as well. So caring. You all have such a beautiful heart and Family!! Many blessings, ❤️💚🙏🏻🌼
I love bassets, but I’m in my 9th decade and I wouldn’t want such wonderful pups left without a home to go to and no one I know would be able to take this breed of puppers on. While they are laid back doggers, they still need exercise, continued training, and company; they don’t do well alone. All my peeps are around my age, so…but still, I love those cuties.
What a sweet sweet boy. So glad to see him find his inner center. I would never be able to have such a pup because I have a long-term back instability, and I know I can never have a companion I can't pick up in sn emergency, but this baby boo is soooooo adorable, I wish I could meet him!!! How wonderful to watch his progress and learning to play! He's a RealDog now!!! 😢😂😢😊😢😂😢
I just recently had my basset hound/corgi mix dog pass away from cancer. He was the sweetest most devoted dog. We adopted him at roughly 6 months old from a local shelter and he passed at 12 years old.
I inherited 2 ancient dogs, 12 and 9 who were totally imprinted to their deceased owner. It took literally 1 year before anyone could pet them for more than a few seconds without growls and nips. One year later, they turned around and now fight each other to be the nearest to me when relaxing and are so dramatic with barks and howls when I leave in the car and jump and bark in circles when I come back even if I'm gone for a few minutes. They are 15 and 12 now. 1 year is a long time, but they were old and unsocialised. It's so nice to see the turn in their perception of you even if it takes a while, especially with old dogs.
Deep down some of us are Basset hounds. Gunther is such a mood (sorry for the buzzword). I can't wait for the day when i'll have a Basset hound too, me and my mother will call him Beppe
We had two bassets. Brother and sister from the same litter. After over 14 years they both passed away 2 1/2 apart this year. Watching this was amazing but sad at the same time. Gunther looks so cool.
They handled this so well. The burglar from the Flintstones unwittingly gave great advice for integrating rescue animals, when he said - "Nice and slow, see. That's the way to do it. Nice and slow." Lol.
I love that you’re the cutest dogs. In my opinion. I recently adopted what I think is a basset hound Shepherd mix her name is Honor. the reason why I think she has bass hounded her because she’s long she has the best hound feet and she has the Bassett Hound woooooo
Thank you for helping this little baby heal from his trauma
They did this the right way every milestone he made they made the biggest deal out of it and celebrated them ❤❤❤😊
That head tilt into mum hand melted my heart. Thank you for giving him a happy home.
such a sweet woman, to show so much love towards your dog, its so beautiful to see that.
Happy to see Gunther trusting people again, with a group effort including therapist Bassett, Joey
Bassett hounds are among the nicest breeds of dogs there are

Isn't he GORGEOUS? 😍
Those precious ears❤❤❤. And the last look he gave you was filled with such love. You have a devoted friend for life with that look🥰
Your patience allowed Gunther to blossom into the wonderful dog he always wanted to be.
Having adopted several rescue bassets, they are worth every bit of effort and are delightfully ornery & full of character 💕
Earning a dogs trust and love is one of the best things ever.
Oh my goodness Gunther is GORGEOUS

I love these stories of people who exhibit endless patience in helping their rescues acclimate to their new lives.
Yep, that's the key right there .. PATIENCE! 😊
So many people don't give their adoptees time to adjust (they just give up and return them).😢
