    This is the best tutorial! I weave on a floor loom, but have always wanted to learn how to make Ceinture fléchée belts the more traditional way. You’ve provided us with a clear and concise method of this type of weaving! Thanks sooo much! Can’t wait to start one in the Acadian colors!

    Interesting variation on the diagonal! I hadn't thought to do a stipple within a stripe like that! Thank you so much for sharing.

    Thanks for starting these videos again! I tried out two techniques from your "silent" video a while ago and and I loved the results. These more in-depth lessons are great! Can't wait for more. Thanks for sharing your expertise! :)

      This is one of my older vids, but I recently came across a super easy way to set up your dowel. The video is a little choppy, but I set up a project in this livestream: ua-cam.com/video/as4rdfA6Y9g/v-deo.html using the new method. If you have any questions let me know, or you can join me tomorrow night for my livestream and ask me directly. :)

    Is there a formula to determine length of yarn to cut for belts? If you want a finished length of 40" how long should your yarn strands be? Plus fringe?

    Thanks so much for making these - I wondered if it might ever be possible for you to put any of the main organizing/setup details in the video description like how many threads or how many alternating threads compared to not alternating in order to setup ? And basic weave pattern description? That would help me so much if you happen to be able to and it’s not too much trouble. If not thanks anyway for all that you share !!

    It would be helpful if you would adjust your camera angle to allow room for captioning at the bottom ( raise the viewing section and leave extra room at the bottom of the screen ). Right now what I want to see is under the captions. Many thanks....

    Hi! i have not tried weaving ever. Wanted to learn this to make the strap for a wayuu bag. Thank you for the detail video. It has inspired me to try weaving. Could you please let me know the length of the yarn i need to make a bag strap & also how many threads to make it wide enough. Thank you!:)

      Hello, Raakhee, thanks for watching! The piece on this video used thirty threads of your typical three-ply Redheart yarn. As for how long to cut your yarn, figure out how long you want your strap then add at least 12 extra inches per half. I know it may seem like too much, but as a rule of thumb it's easier to cut/trim away excess yarn than to restart an entire piece because you didn't cut enough. Hope this helps. :)

    Thank you for the beginner video. I want to try this. I did not hear the yarn length to cut. Can you give me an ideas

      Hello! This was a project that ended up being around 7 feet long, it's been a while since this video. The formula for figuring out how long you should cut your yarn looks like this: (Sash length + 30%) So each thread for this belt was roughly 9 feet long. I started weaving from the middle out, which left me with 4.5 feet of yarn on either side of my dowel. It makes it easier to manage as you can braid the other half until you are ready to remove the dowel and weave the other side. You don't have to do as long of a project as I did, I just like weaving long belts for double wraps. Just follow the formula for your desired length and it should leave you with a little extra for fringe as well. Hope this helps!

    What's the best way to measure? Also it's a bit thick for a little girl so do I just cut down the number of strands?

    • @laenrae05
      @laenrae05  5 років тому +1

      It just so happens that I finally found a formula for measuring out yarn. (took me long enough, I know.) For making a sash of a smaller width, all you really need to do is cut down on the number of threads you are using. As long as the number is divisible by 2 or 3, you will still be able to add a braided or corded fringe at the end. The formula for how much length of yarn you need to cut is this: (desired sash length+30%) X (number of threads) = length needed. So, for example, for a finished piece of 24 inches, I'd want to cut at least 32 inch lengths of yarn. I usually go overboard just to be on the safe side, do I'd round it up to 35 or 40 inches, cause you can always cut off the excess or use it to make a longer fringe. When measuring out the yarn, I use 2 chairs set the appropriate space apart and loop the yarn between them.
      I hope this helps. :)

    how long do i need my threads to be to make a belt?

    • @laenrae05
      @laenrae05  4 роки тому

      You'll want at least 30-40% extra length, depending on how wide and long you want the piece to be. If I want a long fringe I usually add another 50%.

    I have no idea what you did to put the green and blue on the dowel. Don't assume we beginners know all the steps. So I guess I'll ,have to watch another video and hope for the best.

    • @laenrae05
      @laenrae05  7 років тому

      The blue and the green threads loop around the dowel in the same manner as the white and the grey. This pattern was a bit of a two-for-one with me putting a quick explanation of the stipple pattern in with the grey and white stripe. It doesn't matter what color or pattern you are doing, it all starts the same way. The only thing that changes is how you arrange your colors. Hope this helps.
