The first concert recording I ever listened to. Will never forget that cut into "Those people aaanyway..." and Jerry's piercing guitar. Also one of my all-time favorite Dark Stars (though I have like 10 favorite Dark Stars) and the only time I ever heard them do Dark Star-China Cat which was trippy and brilliant. My favorite year for dead concerts, 1968!

My 1st Grateful Dead set was in Feb of '68. They were doing pretty much this same material. Living too far away from SF, I didn't have the luxury (nor age - too young) to catch what they were doing live (this was before their 2nd LP, Anthem of the Sun was released that summer). I came to that concert all fired up to hear everything they did on their 1st album (the one I had bought & devoured). I remember they did open up with Pigpen's "Good Mornig Little School Girl", but then they went into his one long "45 - min Medley" of all this beautiful. flowing Psychedelic Music w/extended Jams (Jerry pickin' $ grinnin' on his '52 Les Paul Goldtop), playing what I later found out was the material to be found on their 2nd LP. While I was so disappointed they didn't play hardly anything I was used to hearing on their 1st LP (especially my cherished "Cold Rain & Snow, Viola Lee Blues etc) nevertheless, I was blown away & highly entertained by their "newer material". BTW - this was at a smaller "Hick" city, where they shared the bill with Country Joe & the Fish & I think two other local bands. If it was at a bigger venue, they probably would extend their set with plenty of 1st album stuff. Also, they let us 15 yr old "Teenybopper" Kids sit up on the side of the stage - right next to Pigpen & his Hammond B-3 organ. That was my very 1st concert of any kind ever - and perfectly Straight (!) - my Mom took me & my best friend there & dropped us off. I was so touched by it all that to this day I am still affected by the experience. As a result, I am a true "Vintage Dead" hopless case forever✌️.
