even though its not the largest Tsunami it might be the best film of one ive ever seen..shows the real danger , not a just big "wave" or a flood but a massive highly energetic displacement of sea water
@@solerso68there's a plethora of videos that are clearer and a longer length of time. A simple UA-cam search can find it
Out of all the tsunami footage I’ve seen, this video illustrates most clearly that a tsunami isn’t just a wave, it’s literally the leading edge of what is essentially a sudden change in sea level.
Bien visto, complemento tu deducción diciendo que este sunami pudo ser producido por la mano humana.

Same. I see a new one every few months it seems.
I've watched every piece of 2011 video countless times. I can't believe I've never seen this incredible footage.
Oh, my. How utterly terrifying. I am so sorry for what everyone went through. Blessings to all for peace and healing even after all these years. 🥰🙏💕
Pjcol.rccnnwattpaycp..policererec..
this video made me realize just how intense some of the wave collisions were between bounced/returning waves and oncoming initial waves. I cannot imagine how many (likely) tons of force are slamming together at the brief impact spot. You would literally be compacted. I feel for those that never got their chance to live as a result of this. ❤️
It's really difficult to actually figure out how high a wave is in a video when you don't really know how high anything is to compare it to. Most of the waves I saw some scientist who did actually take the videos and measure the waves between 15-30 meters that's 50-100 feet tall think about how big a 10 story building is.
During the boxing day tsunami 2004, the wave travelling across the Indian Ocean having flattened Banda Aceh whereupon it slammed into the eastern coast of Sri Lanka killing tens of thousands. Most of the west coast looked to have escaped the most terrible of the damage and the wave carried on across towards East Africa.
On the way there it smashed into the Maldives.
It then was reflected back off the Maldives and back to West Sri Lanka where it killed another 20000. Raging Planet indeed....
There was one video of it I remember seeing on the news where it was a wall going through field after field. Looked like you couldn’t have even drove away from it
@clancybenedict6647
To give you some idea of just how powerful water is when it crashes into something, just one cubic meter weighs a metric ton, or if you're a British system user 2,200 lb. Just 2 cubic meters would weigh about as much as a huge pickup or SUV in the United States.
After all that time, I still wish peace to all people and animals that lost their lives, and good fortune to those who have lived thru this.
It annoys me that they just left their animals...l know people will say.."its just a dog"...nope. I'd have lifted my dog (my wee soulmate) and ran to higher ground...l wouldn't have left my dog nor cat to perish. But us brits love our pets ☺
Nobody "left" their pets, Everyone who evacuated included their pets with them, that's the reason why you can hear dogs barking in a few videos. Although I am sad to say that means everyone who didn't evacuate probably died with their pets. It was at areas near Fukushima Daiichi where livestock were left there, and people had to come back and feed them once in a while.
@@cryingforbread or the poor pets at home alone.
@@cct2557 yea there wasn't any time to get them too. A lot of people died trying to get their stuff in their homes, including pets.
Mother Nature is neither benevolent or malevolent. That is a challenge to remember after watching this video. I knew that after sailing 50,000 miles on my schooner, but I gotta say, I don't feel quite the same way about my love of the ocean at the moment.

That wall of water in the distance was absolutely terrifying! I woud have been flipping out if I saw that in person. Glad you guys are ok.
The raw power of the wave is unbelievable. Amazing footage I have never seen.
I wouldn’t be shocked if this is the largest tsunami wave caught on camera… amazing I’ve never seen this
Condolences to those that lost everything that day. Those who lost their lives. Will never forget
Every time I think I’ve seen every tsunami video there is another one pops up, devastating
Never seen this footage before. At first it almost looks like a waterfall is moving towards you.
Superb quality footage ❤❤❤❤
First time i've seen this footage and i have watched a lot. You can see sets of tsunami waves on the horizon.
Remember if ever in an area w a tsunami situation sometimes it may be the 3rd wave that's the biggest or the 10th etc just depends on how many sets come and the first one may be the smallest. Just assume a massive one is coming, get as high up as you can and plan to stay in the high ground place. Some people made the mistake in 2004 of thinking the 1st wave was it and venturing back out...
Isso aconteceu com os turistas que estavam na Indonésia e nunca tinham presenciado antes um fenomeno natural como esse. Muitos perderam suas vidas quando retornaram pra praia.
A segunda onda veio mais forte que a primeira.
I've seen a lot of footage of this unfortunate natural disaster, but this is one of the best pieces of history I have seen so far. Hands down. Prayers for Japan to this day in 2023, almost exactly 12 years later. 🙏
I still get chills watching footage form that horrible day.
As a strong surfer/swimmer this is terrifying.
The amount of force demonstrated here is like something from a nightmare.
The power when it crashes for the first time in the wave rolls it's just unbelievable
When you fall in love with a culture and you see something like this...😭
I think this is much like where I live. Where deep water comes almost to the shore and mountains come right to the beach. The waves don’t build up until the last second because there is room underneath.
A lot of people died because you can't see the wave until it rises rapidly on the shore
That has to be so scary, waiting for what's coming, knowing it's coming, and having to just stand on high ground watching your homes and other humans swept away.
I don’t think they use village in a place in Japan. Correct me if I am wrong, they use prefecture.
Yes they use Prefecture, but inside these prefectures, there can be cities , towns, and villages. For example, this video is in Tanohata Village, which is in Iwate Prefecture.
the cameraman is always safe
And can never seem to hold the camera steady. Not one.
@@billgreen4362 Good grief these comments are distasteful, the constant "cameraman always survives" comments are never funny, and the reason they do is transparently self-evident the vast majority of the time.
Likewise it's incredibly disrespectful to whine about poor camera work when someone is recording an immense tragedy.
Gives me chills watch this, that color water makes me thinks on death.
The amount of water a tsunami wave brings in is surprising. So scary😢. Imagine seeing the sea floor rising up suddenly and a wall of water coming at you .
Coves are the absolute worst place to be during oncoming tsunami waves. Prayers for those who lost their lives.
It is like watching a monster arise from the deep. Truly terrifying.
WOW, Nice video ❣️
What strikes me having watched so many of these videos is how massively powerful the force involved is. A Cube of water 1m * 1m * 1m weighs a metric ton. It’s hard to conceive how hugely powerful a wall of water like this would be. Nothing man made could hope to stop it?
The poor people there. How terrifying. Haven't seen that footage before. One would hope they never go through that again.😢
Respect the ocean for all that it is from unimaginable beauty to unbelievably ruthless. Peace to all✌️
Tem uma música brasileira que foi escrita nos anos 70 , que o autor parece ter tido a visão dessas tsunamis que ocorreram na Ásia em 2004.
A letra diz assim :
"Quanto tempo temos antes de voltarem aquelas ondas
Que vieram como gotas em silêncio , tão furioso
Derrubando homens entre outros animais
Devastando a sede desses matagais
Devorando árvores , pensamentos seguindo a linha
Do que foi escrito pelo mesmo lábio...tão furioso
E se teu amigo vento não te procurar
É porque multidões ele foi arrastar

Some day I hope that someone from the area or familiar with the area can give us measurements of how high these rocks & cliffs are so we can get an idea of the scale of these waves because they look massive.
That first breaking wave was at least a 20-25' face.
Good footage but sad what happened to many people.
Most of the east coast of Japan is a steep coast and narrow bays, these act as a 'wave trap' and it can makes the tsunami run-up higher just like in this video
Most of these narrow bays were in Iwate Prefecture. Thats why the highest tsunami run-up was in Miyako, Iwate. Some of the most violent footages of the tsunami also comes from Iwate, usually looking like a very fast rising tide because of the steep coasts.
@@cryingforbread yes, the only low laying land and large bay in Japan east coast is Sendai, that's why the tsunami can travel far inland with lowerer run-up.
@@cryingforbread Bottlenecks yes but the reason the wave was so big in these areas was the quake caused underwater landslides at the same time magnifying the impact...-40m etc as a posed to 10-20m elsewhere.
@@mrkey1003 I uploaded the mystery 40 meter tsunami documentary, it explained it well too
@@cryingforbread Yeah that's the one...Was new to me at the time, 'bottleneck' seemed the only plausible explanation for so long but the wave being orders of magnitude larger still seemed too far out. There is a video that i cant find anymore of one of the places that got hit, and when the wave came around the headland it was huge, like way bigger than all the other waves i have seen in all the other videos, i remember searching for the place on google Earth because the video was giving each cities/towns name and how many people died...
Can you try and describe it even more? We might have it
That is seriously scary.

Ko..ko..koreh waaaah! Nande nah yooo!
That was a very small tsunami very lucky the power in it beautiful but scary
that was 2 stories tall
@@cryingforbread na don't think it was that tall 2 stories is over 200 ft and it did not go over the bridge yes tsunamis can get that size 200 300 ft or more but its hard to tell the size of a tsunami cant measure it 😂
@@davidjoseph3188 A hotel south of this had damage up to the 3rd floor, so its safe to say this wave was around 2 or 3 stories tall. the tsunami in japan went up to 128 feet, but there are rare occasions where it reaches past that, or even into the thousands.
@@cryingforbread ohh well if you say it is then it is thats proof 128 ft wow thats massive its scary you never know how big a tsunami can get 100 ft or 200 or more I love tsunamis as in they are beautiful thats nature how it comes yes very sad of people's homes and life also tornados are beautiful but nasty same as tsunamis allways wanted to see one close up but in safe hight same as tornados
If you could imagine the size of someone down there that wave is huge,
When you see the thumbnail it looks unbelievable but when you see the video it suddenly looks less extraordinary. Weird how the human body reacts to pictures vs videos. That is a monster wave but when you look at it too long it becomes smaller
That is so friggin scary...
Yeah
Had not seen this video before. There must be so much unseen footage out there.
Sadly, there will be the phones of people that were filming from what they originally believed was somewhere safe, either at a safe distance or at a safe height, but they then suddenly realised that the tsunami was hugely more powerful than they'd anticipated and that it was getting disturbingly close, very quickly!
They would have video recorded the waters inundating them, their phones then buried or lost as they were swept away.
Phones and cameras from the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami were recovered which had footage of this type as tourists stood and filmed the waves that killed them.
Footage was broadcast and relatives came forward who had recognised the people in the videos.
@@felixcat9318 Have you seen the phone footage from inside the ATR crash in Nepal that killed 70 people? - it's horrific as it actually films the crash and huge fireball from inside the plane as it slammed into the valley on final approach. It cannot be unseen so if you go looking be aware of that, I wish I hadn't seen it but was not warned unfortunately.
My goodness. This is possibly the most devastating wave I've seen filmed. I don't think many realize these are filmed from a great distance. That wave is likely every bit of 80'. Just incredible. Mt greatest fear and in saddened offers had to live through that.
30 to 40 But 40 is likely pushing it. They are not anywhere near 80 feet, not these at least. it’s the speed of these waves that make them so devastating, not the height. An 80 foot wave is like what they ride at a huge day at Nazare Spain. still an absolutely terrifying force to behold though your right about that.
The maximum "run-up" height(max elevation tsunami water reached) was 20m / 65', though that's the maximum height above sea level - the pressure pushes the water uphill somewhat, but the actual depth of water will be lower at higher land elevations. It's also the maximum height built up over time, rather than the wave height.
The maximum run-up measured anywhere was 40m, though much like the waves themselves this presumably varies a lot with topography as much as the force of the water itself.
This is terrifying... Even more when we live in an era where we see ourselves so powerful... And yet we are powerless facing mother nature. All we can do is watch and hope to survive
Awesome.
the mother of all shorebreaks
Oh my! This one is new for me.
I read your channel description. You listed some of the sources where you find your videos. Does that mean these other sources may not be the originals, either?
In other words, is it possible that some have been edited or modified in some way since they may have been reposted several times?
I know you left a comment on one site because they had the wrong location listed in the title. That makes me think they simply copied it from another channel. Also, some videos from those other channels (your sources) appear to be 'zoomed in' to a smaller section of the original video. This makes the video quality worse even though it focuses on the most active area.
I've been watching the same tsunami videos multiple times since the earthquake happened, so I sometimes think some are 'different' than those that I saw a few years, earlier (maybe the originals).
yes, some are just reposts from other channels, usually from deleted videos. They are almost always not the originals. However, since they are the only sources left after 11 years, I have to work with them.

Tsunamis are the main reason why I won’t ever live on the beach.
The other two reasons, traffic and parking.
Japan is in the crosshairs of tsunamis, typhoons, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
And it's that same traffic and parking that could hamper an escape from an oncoming wave. Besides being annoying.
I realize nature will do what nature will do, but still, that's messed up.
Easy solution. Never build anything within 100ft of sea level.
That also means moving everyone near the coast, and taking them from their land. Although the coastal areas are now being used as government land, it still isn't 100ft.
This one is new
Yet another bit of footage all over the place
That’s how we originally imagined a tidal wave. Camera all over the place might be worth feeding through image stabilisation.

My God 😢
Awe inspiringly terrifying.
When it comes to mankind and the earth, the earth always wins.
I often wonder what would happen if the sea levels rise.
I believe the PA systems were horribly indirectly unintentionally not used properly.. To prevent panic the message was 3 meter TSUNAMI.
Problem with this is HUMAN nature to be trusting in authority, complacent in the danger,& somewhat delusional in the severity of the situation @ hand & ESSENTIALLY the LADDER
There are stories where trusting in authority is right and wrong. A lot of people were both saved and killed by the government's both preparedness and unpreparedness in different aspects of evacuation, information, and infrastructure.
@@cryingforbread you forgot to add... and legs to run. that's life around these parts! 😢
I've watched so many....always surprised me that everyone felt the huge earthquakes, everyone heard the multiple warnings..over and over "go to higher ground"....yet so many people chose to ignore it and perished...driving or walking to the harbour and securing their boats...securing their businesses...watching from the riverside...l don't get it..l'd be on the highest hill in minutes...? Please don't say they were complacent....the earthquakes were huge...surely they must have known there was a chance of a tsunami....?
People thought it would be the same height as when the tsunami from Chile went across the pacific and hit them in 2010. But most of the deaths were from areas where people thought was high enough.
I've been in earthquakes, true earthquakes, that have lasted between 10-25 seconds. That doesn't seem like a long time, but when you are experiencing it, it feels like it will never stop. The amount of damage during that time was mind-boggling. Now imagine it being 4 MINUTES LONG like this one. It must have felt like the end of the world! But please explain to me, how in the hell do you shake for 4 minutes in a row and not think there will be a HUGE TSUNAMI coming when you live in the land of tsunamis and you practice tsunami drills all the time? Sadly it's almost like an I.Q. test.
The government, more specifically the Japanese Meteorological Agency first warned of a 3 meter tsunami because their systems only picked it up as a magnitude 7 earthquake. When the town and cities' powers finally cut out, they had no information that the tsunami warning was now 10 meters.
