It's hard to find parts for these vintage Honda motorcycles, nice to have a part number!

We'll have to try to find a buddy with a 1200 who knows what they're doing and bring them into the how-to guys fold!

good video and description. i would just like to add that it's a good idea to test the switch before buttoning everything back up. new parts, particularly aftermarket, doesn't necessarily mean good parts these days.

Oh definitely, great advice. I can attest that the new parts these days aren't what they used to be. I've had a few fan sensor switches go out on me and those are supposed to last.

I've had a lot of motorcycles over the last 60 years, and the early 80's GL 1100 Interstate
Gold Wings were the best handling and most comfortable highway machines that
I've ever ridden; very smooth flat-opposed 4-cylinder motor, cruising along quietly
@ 3800 rpm; kind of like riding a big old Elna sewing machine.
You could cover a lot of miles in a day, if you wanted to, and arrive
relaxed and refreshed. They did OK on hundreds of miles of dirt and gravel roads, too.

its crazy how affordable they are now and yet still super reliable and soo comfy for doing road trips!

Doing my research into what kind of bike I wanted the 80's wings jumped out at me. You can tell how reliable they are because there are still so many of them on the used market! Inexpensive, super comfortable, plenty of parts out there, and reliable. I was hooked.

I had this same problem on a 1977 Honda Goldwing. Turns out the issue with these ignitions is the pins on the ignition are riveted into the housing. This causes the pressure of the wire harness and plug to push the pin away from the rivet loosing continuity. I really wanted to keep the same key for everything so I just fluxed and soldered the rivet-pin joint on all the connectors on the ignition. You need to take apart the cover that goes on the back however to get to them, and that cover doesn't like to come off or go back on without cracking. It now works great!

Wow that's intense. I'll have to look for a video on how to do that. I know most people don't want to switch to new keys and then have the old keys for all the storage locks.

1:27 :) I bet that was a fun problem to diagnose.
