- Relaxing walking tour in Downtown Lisbon (Portugal), with detailed historical information and context, including a visit to the National Pantheon. Baixa (Downtown) is the most central and renowned district in Lisbon. The district has large classical avenues flanked by houses covered in tiles, in typical Lisbon style.
Downtown Lisbon is packed with stores and restaurants and is always busy during the day. Video starts in Praça do Comércio (Commerce Square) and ends at the National Pantheon, the majestic Santa Engrácia church which took 400 years to complete. It contains the tombs of some of the country’s most important cultural figures.

Holy Olisipo! Splendid vid! It felt like I was just behind you! At about 6:00, a man sitting at a table outside in the Jose Saramago Square. He wore a red top with...short sleeves! Strong man😁 At 7:32, Casa de Bicos reminded me of the Palazzo dei Diamanti of Ferrara, Italy, a famous Renaissance edifice. The exterior walls look very similar. I was moved to see the tombs of Amalia Rodrigues and Eusebio. I admired both in my youth. Obrigado Miquel!

@@ewelina8422 Oh, bummer, I hope it's nothing too serious... 😕I'm good, I have even less free time these days, been volunteering a few hours a week to help the Ukrainian people who fled to Portugal. Stuff like helping find permanent accomodation, getting social security number and tax ID, etc.

@@ewelina8422 When the invasion started I even thought about flying to Ukraine... dunno what I'd do there, I have no military experience, but I was so furious that my gut reaction was to do something... anything! Supporting animal charities is a great way to help! 🤗
From someone who has had a couple of moments in life when the hole I was in couldn't be any deeper or darker, what I can say is that things do get much better with time. Hang in there, try to stay positive (I know it's easier said than done) and focus on the long term and the happier life it may bring 💪🙌
You do a great job mastering those street inclines. I was absolutely exhausted every day from all the seemingly always walking uphill. Words of advice, wear REALLY GOOD, COMFORTABLE WALKING SHOES when visiting Portugal. 👟😂
Haha! Yes, good comfortable walking shoes are a must! 😄 I'm used to the inclines, altough in the hot summer temperatures they can still be painful 😅

@@ritaalways-alone4618 I'm born and bred in Lisbon, although my parents and all my family is originally from northern Portugal. I was born in the neighborhood/district of Alcantara, very close to the super touristy Belém 😀

@@ritaalways-alone4618 Madeira is such a beautiful island, I only visited once, many years ago. 😊 I remember it was raining and cold in Lisbon (January, winter), while in Funchal, Madeira was sunny and warm.

Lisboa com certeza faz parte do meu top 10 de Portugal junto com Coimbra, Sintra, Tomar, Évora, Braga, Óbidos, Fátima, Aveiro e Cascais… e olha …top 10 extremamente difícil de se fazer tal a beleza das cidades daí… não é fácil deixar de fora Ponte de Lima, Viana do Castelo, Setúbal, Guimarães, Figueira da Foz, Porto, Montemor O Velho, Penafiel, Faro, Funchal etc…mas acaba que as escolhas acabam em alguns casos sendo mais subjetivas do que técnicas. Coisas mais de afinidade digamos, espiritual ou estética com o que se vê, sente e percebe do que talvez uma valorização criteriosa disto e daquilo. ❤️💙💚🌟🙏
Concordo, é muito díficil fazer um top 10 das cidades portuguesas! 😀 Depende do gosto pessoal de cada um, se gosta mais do litoral com as suas praias, de castelos, de vestígios romanos ou medievais, etc.
A igreja de Sta Engrácia demorou 400 anos para ser concluída mas valeu a pena! Muito linda e a visita que foi feita valeu cada segundo! Parabéns por mostrar essa paisagem vista lá do alto assim como toda a arquitetura da igreja! 👍🏻 😀

Boa noite Miguel, mais um ótimo vídeo em Lisboa, olha como ficamos sabendo das coisas através de seus vídeos nunca imaginaria que, o corpo do jogador Eusébio o ( Pantera Negra) estaria no Panteão Nacional, muito bom saber, mesmo o Eusébio tendo sido o responsável direto pela desclassificação do Brasil na Copa do Mundo de 1966, fazendo 2 gols ...mas tudo bem coisas do futebol....abraços
Olá Sérgio! 😊 Sim, o Pantera Negra está no Panteão. Na altura houve alguma polémica, afinal era "apenas" um jogador de futebol, mas quem critica isso esquece o que representou na altura, em que Portugal tinha um governo autoritário que combatia guerras em África, ter um atleta de origem africana a representar Portugal ao mais alto nível (como nessa vitória contra o Brasil). 😊 Eusébio foi muito mais do que um dos melhores jogadores de sempre, foi alguém que ajudou a combater racismo, discriminação, fascismo. Abraços!

Hello Marta, good afternoon! 😀 Yes, Vasco da Gama is indeed in Jerónimos. What you see in the National Pantheon (the first 6 tombs I filmed) are "cenotaphs". It means empty tombs erected in honour of a person whose remains are elsewhere. Amalia's tomb is "real" though.

Boa noite Miguel 😁 a igreja que demorou 400 anos para ser construída, é a maior de Portugal ? É a mais antiga ? E fica no bairro Alfama ?
Olá Eduardo, boa tarde! 😁 Boa pergunta... não tenho a certeza de qual será a maior igreja em termos de área, mas talvez a igreja do Mosteiro dos Jerónimos ou a do Mosteiro de Alcobaça (irei lá em breve), penso que não será a igreja do Panteão. Embora em altura talvez seja mesmo o Panteão...
A mais antiga também é difícil dizer, pois quase todas tiveram obras de restauro / reconstrução, complicado definir o que é construção totalmente nova e uma simples renovação. No entanto, há uma igreja no norte de Portugal que tem quase 1400 anos (verdade!), que embora muito renovada ainda mantém algumas estruturas e interiores do século 7! 😮Portanto a minha resposta será essa. Um dia irei lá, não sei quando 😀

Embora o seu papel inicial fosse o de ser uma igreja, atualmente já não é. Ou melhor, é uma igreja sem serviço religioso, agora a sua função é ser apenas o Panteão Nacional 😀 Confesso que não sei o que era aquilo no meio, seria alguma exposição temporária...
