    I watch a range of channels on UA-cam and trial many more before I unsubscribe. Yours is as compelling as Martijn Doolaard and I’ve followed you from the start. I don’t understand the algorithm that has managed to let so many bypass your content but I hope your QandA will motivate more followers.
    You're a trooper Bart to us who’re following already, and we look forward to following your progress.

      Hi Simon. Thanks! For me it will be important top keep having fun. And concerning the rest. Sometimes you need a bit of luck in the beginning. And have some good quality footage too. I am a novice. I look forward to less building work. That I can tell you. It hit me a bit starting this year. Thanks for sticking around.

    You are a wonderful storyteller and you do it with such clarity and simplicity! I enjoy watching people renovating or constructing their homes, so surreal watching an image in one's mind unfolding in reality. My first dream house became real when I was 6-7 years old, A playhouse built with bamboo in Sri Lanka with my dad (RIP dad) I never forget the excitement. I could never think of moving into a house built by someone else and not having my hands and creativity placed on it. Enjoy seeing your paradise becoming real. What an awesome feeling! Blessings from Blackforest in Germany!

      Yes Mal. I can fully imagine the excitement. Like the first time I built myself a treehut. May not not looked like much but I could get up there and it felt like mine little home I built myself. Sri Lanka must have been beautiful and what a lovely product: bamboo!

      @@bart1968v Bamboo was growing like grass in our backyard and meters tall. Now I enjoy pine trees instead, in the beautiful blackforest. Life is great as long as we have memories to step into, time to time. Hope you enjoy your paradise build...though it can be not so nice when there are so many things has to be done by one person...

      @@malgaa3655 Will manage for now. I like Bamboo too but you have to contain the roots otherwise it grows wild. I might plant some but I haven't decided where. Pine is not a local species here. And people here don't like them too much since the wood burns to fast for their stoves :)

    i love the lintels above the openings in stone. how they are oddly shaped and stained dark brown to match windows. almost like they are decorative instead of necessary. you really have thought of everything. i’m enjoying your channel so much. keep your chin up when things don’t go as planned. i’m sure that is hard but you handle everything with humor and grace. very impressive!

      Thanks Doreen. Those are chestnut. Very strong and almost indistructable. Some people replace them when doing a renovation. But I checked all of them out in the beginning and decided none of them needed to be replaced. Does look better than new ones.

    I am seriously impressed with your cutting of this video, it must have taken hours to do! And a lot of the cuts are near enough seamless, well done! Most of the time it just felt like a tiny glitch - missable if you're not being attentive or look for it, because the monologue is never interrupted. If you just listened you'd never notice the cuts at all. I like how you formatted this Q&A as well, the subjects flow well and you didn't have a lot of repetition since you built up towards the answers in a logic order. I think you've levelled up again. 😁
    I cannot for the life of me imagine you in a bank...you must have been bored to tears after living such a day-fly-life for so long. I can't really say it surprises me that you've led a restless life.
    You know, I don't think I've ever learned so much about geography and history before watching a channel focusing on renovation, and I love it! I think it would be great to get little things like that now and then, some trivia or history or anecdote, maybe as a short?
    That thing about not sticking out - I could never fit in anywhere, and it was only once I stopped trying to fit in I could finally be happy. And the funny thing is that while I kept trying it only felt as if I got more and more isolated, but nowadays when I just allow myself to be me I've got a lot of friends. Life's never really what you expect it to be when you're young, I guess.
    I think you'd make a great host, even if it will be bit of a learning experience how to take care of a B&B, but you've got a friend that I'm sure can give you a lot of tips once the time comes! Even if it feels a bit overwhelming right now it's a bit off and I think the more of the property that gets finished, the more you'll probably want to fill it with people.
    Have you considered letting the last apartment (now workshop) become more of a social, shared indoors area, by the way? That way you can keep enjoying it even after it becomes a B&B.

    • @bart1968v
      @bart1968v  7 місяців тому +2

      Nice to hear I levelled up again. But I have to say this one took a lot of time. Really. Anyway. Funny to hear you talk about the geography and history. I could talk about that endlessly. And well I think we both understand very well what it means to try to fit in and why it doesn't work. I think in the end being happy with who you are and what you do is the most valuable thing. The rest will follow. And I have a social shared indoors area. It's below the tiny house but it's still messy and full with tiles for example. I am already making some designs for the furnishings and I would also like to have a bit of of a kitchen block there so I can prepare all kinds of tasty food.

Hi Nordkapp. Much appreciated. Stonehouses. You can find smaller ones between 30-60 sqm. Most of those will be ruines. Owners tend ro make holes in the roof as to avoid paying property taxes. Brickhouses mostly feom the 50s onwards are available in all sizes. I do recommend to take into account a complete renovation. From insulation (non-existend) to single glass windows, lead plumbing pipes to simple electricity....

    • @Nordkapp65
      @Nordkapp65 6 місяців тому

      @@bart1968v many thanks for those insights. If one did buy a 30-60 Sam ruin, I presume you cannot easily extend a 60 sum by 40 sqm to make it a 100 sqm?

    • @bart1968v
      @bart1968v  6 місяців тому

      If you find something, you have to check with a local architect what classification the property has in the land registry. If you can convert it into a house, you can extend every property. The % depends on the region. For example in Piedmond it's 20%. So say you have 40 sqm, you may add 8 sqm. Now everything depends on the property but if possible you can do things like adding a terrace on top of the new area. Question of studying the object and being creative. A good local architect and/or is recommended.

Tal vez sepa más porque ha estado en la industria agrícola durante tanto tiempo y especialmente como caficultor. Buena suerte de antemano. Great video! Really interesting, honest and inspirational. I started watching your videos because I liked how grumpy you seemed to be. It was refreshing to see someone who was honest about how difficult and unpleasant some jobs can be! Anyway, the project itself soon became fascinating and now I look forward to the rest of your progress. Everything of the best for the new year.

    Bart, real nice job you're doing! Also the location, although a litte bit far off ( still remember all the turns from Alba to Cortemilia, sitting next to a crazy driver ) , is good. Monfforte, La Morra and Barolo are becoming to " Riminish ", so people will move further away for real nature, rural aereas, etc. Not such a fan of drywalls but your results are amazing. Interesting life also, finally i found someone who defeats me 10-2!

      Hi Roberto. Don't know about any competition going on there but I get it. If you are ever nearby, do stop. I can show you some roads that are way more challenging then that Alba - Cortemilia ride. I went back and forth 3 times last week. It is different with a bus camper. Taking the corners a bit too fast and the entire equipment flies through the van.Monforte, La Morra and Barolo. Must sees, but not really to stay if you ask me.

      Thanks for the invitation, with my bicycle I arrive maximum in Roddino or Bossolasco ( 50/60 km from where I live ) but who knows... Happy new year!

    • @bart1968v
      @bart1968v  6 місяців тому

      Yeah from Bossolasco you still need to cross two valley's. And the not the easiest ones. Up to Feisoglio it may be doable, but the climb to Prunetto is a different thing. Pretty hard I imagine.

      D'autres personnes me parlent également de ce problème. Je pourrais essayer de traduire automatiquement dans d'autres langues, mais la traduction automatique n'est pas géniale et même la version anglaise, je la réécris moi-même. Puis si on parle beaucoup....ça me prend des heures. Généralement tout le dimanche matin ou le samedi après-midi.

    A bit of advice if you take don’t think about sailing , I know your way of thinking but put your feet down and focus on your little paradise. Perhaps you need to do videos about your area.

      Dear Jose. I do listen to advice. And you are absolutely right. This has my full focus for the moment and the near future. However it was dreams that brought me here and made me do this. And I believe one should keep dreaming even if some of them will never turn into reality. Greetings
