Time to add Disc Brakes to Goldy. Let me know if you have any question!
Dick's 4x4 Garage where do I get the parts from
I got the calipers / rotors from car quest, and the brackets from amazon (ballistic fab).
Dick's 4x4 Garage how much were the calipers
What size rotors? 11 or 13?
I would like a part number on the spindle nut socket if possible.
What about an Emergency brake???
Smart idea using the front rotors/calipers from a k20. Quick way to make it work.
What does that do about park brake though?
What do you use for an e brake ..??
What did you do for an Ebrake. Must have for my state inspection
Hope all is well brother, I know it's been a while but do you remember if you used jb6 or jb7 calipers?
Can't thank you enough for posting this. Been trying to figure out a poorboy disc set-up, I knew it had to be out there. Again, thank you Sir!
Brother that's really nice job, I got same 79 k20, what's the part # for ballistic fab?
Thanks
I have two questions for ya. I just got myself a 1972 K20 and it needs breaks . Question #1) what did you end up doing for rear break lines? I saw you removed the stock lines then you left us hanging. #2) Just to be sure, you used front K20 rotor calipers in the rear?
I had soft braided line made up at my local hose shop for calipers to, my braided drop line, and ran the hard line down the frame rail with a coupler about half way in case I need to replace a piece at a later time. Yes front calipers for the rear.
Can I have year and make for the parts for the rear disk brake conversion?
anybody ever tried to use ane kind of line lock for the rear brakes for an e brake. I never tried any type so not sure how good or how long it would hold?
And you have no parking brake. Sucks
This sure helps me out, I have 66 C20 with will work with
Found your channel because of the Jeep videos, but now I am hooked on watching the Chevy stuff!
That's awesome man! Glad you enjoy it. I haven't forgot about your stinger.
Dick's 4x4 Garage No problem, looks like you have enough projects going on right now!
Is something like this possible on a 1970 k20 with a dana 44 front? According to another fella on youtube its possible with small bearing spindles. I'd prefer not to do an axle swap if possible.. ha
I’m not sure on those years, I would head over to 67-72chevy truck forum. Lots of good info there.
E brake info please..
Great video. So will this work with a dually?
Did you ever find out? I have the same question
What did you do for E brake?
Now that the easy part is done...looking forward to the steel-rubber line install and the proportioning valve install. 👍
Keep up the awesome work, Dude!
Thanks Buddy! Now it's time for some fun stuff!
Ebrake?
looking to swap out drums in the front to disc on a 1970 K20 P/U any suggestions on the parts?
What is the expected advantage of the disc brake? obviously not stopping power because the brake shoe has a lot more surface area and that's why big rigs all have them.
I got drums in my k20, do I need to buy a whole new axel or just buy the disc.
Did you have amazon part # for caliper bracket?
Jb6 or jb7 calipers for the rear?
I have a 82 k20. I would like tore apart to the frame and rebuilt with new parts needed or better depending on prices. She has a fresh rebuilt 350 smallblock with the turbo 350 trans.i dont trust the angle of the drive shaft at the lift hight its at to be honest. Im goin for broke so i cant do anything about it yet
I have a 78 c-20 Rear wheel drive .Can I use these same parts to convert my rear brakes ? If so, do I , and did you need to replace the proportioning valve ?
Should all be the same. I replaced the valve as well.
Hey guy can you turn a C20 Chevy 79 a dually truck
What size spindle nut socket did you use if you don’t mind me asking?
This is awesome I'm so doing this to my 87 v20
What year is that k20? I bought a 14 bolt and dana 60 for my Sonoma and what a reference for breaks.
It’s a 79.
Ok I have a motorhome with the same drums in the rear. Ok her comes the question I noticed you to the rear brakes and wheel cylinder all off at once I'm trying to figure out will this same method work on my RV I'm trying to change the wheel cylinders on both rear
It would be a lot more work, easier to disassemble the shoes and install the wheel cylinder.
Are rear Disc better? 18 wheelers have Drum brakes. A drum would provide you with more surface area then a disc.
The disc work a lot better.
@@Dicks4x4Garage Thats great to know! I have a spare 14 bolt from an 01 truck I might swap all together.
Nice bro, doing mine soon for my 85 K5 Blazer.....just waiting for this summer heat in Vegas to drop a bit more.
Thanks brother! I feel ya man, this heat has been killing my motivation
Excellent video. I have a 66 C-20 I want to convert to Disc at least in the front, ideally on all 4 corners. Ideas? Parts? In this video, you said '79 K20 Calipers and Rotors, but, in 1979 there was no availability of rear Rotors for that application, so, are you referring utilizing front rotors and calipers from the said vehicle?
Thank you! Yes front rotors and calipers.
@@Dicks4x4Garage awesome, thanks for the reply! Can you post the link or at best direction for the adapter plate which holds the Caliper in place, and, any splash shields utilized?
Thanks for the video
Single wheel or dually?
Single.
@@Dicks4x4Garage was NOT expecting a reply from a 2 year old video lol. They told me they wouldn't fit a dually and forwarded me to the weld on. But they don't look like they put the caliper in any different location. Gonna get a set cause u just so happens I have a srw are as well lol
Ok I took the rear shoes off but still can't get to the line of the wheel cylinder can I take the plate off like you did to get to it
Whatever you have to do to get the job done!
What size are the rotors?
Do you have to change the master cylinder for this job?
No but the proportioning valve has to be changed, this is the one I'm using www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-760185
Studs look a little short, did you swap those too or are they just drum studs?
They do look a little short, probably ok with a steel wheel, but Ill have to test it with the H2's.
🤙😎 killing it brother
Thanks man!
You have a link for brackets?

Hey Dave does that nut on the 14 bolt spindles require a specific socket or is it the same as what you would use on the front axle nuts on a 4wd truck?
Also, are you planning on swapping at the Proportioning valve for the front and rear disc setup?. Ive been eying this one for a while now because it is supposed to be the proper one for front and rear disc brakes: www.amazon.com/dp/B006K8JYYE/?coliid=I3PXUOP7GVD48P&colid=27MZ7VYAGDIIP&psc=0&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
Hi Robert! The socket is not the same, it has 6 tangs, I picked it up at Oreilly's. I am going to swap the proportioning valve with this one. www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-760185
Are the calipers the same on a six lug?
Yes I believe so.
Do you need to run a different proportioning valve now or no?
Yessir, SummitRacing P/N sum-760185.
Excellent video! Thank you. No more parking brake?
WBOS72 Not right now, but will soon be converting to eldorado calipers so I will. Thanks for watching!
@@Dicks4x4Garage
I haven't researched it fully. But you may want to...
I don't like the k20 calipers nor the Cadillac ones.
I'm thinking of adapting or swapping on the "newer" 14 bolt aka AAM 10.5 brakes. My plan B is just swapping in the complete AAM 10.5 or AAM 11.5. They're pretty damn cheap now.
Shh don't tell everyone. 😉👌
What about the brake hose?
What's the question?
What are you going to do about an ebrake?
Throw a block of wood in the bed..HA HA! Not sure yet, since it's an auto I'm not sweating it too much. I might switch up to some eldorado calipers later, but I'm broke right now, at least that's what the wife keeps telling me!
What about the parking Brake?? I need that at the Boat ramp.
Parking paw, and a piece of 4x8! 🤣
You can get E Brake by using calipers from a late 70s El Dorado. They cost more but you'll have an E Brake.
Thanks for all your help enjoy your videos. I did the disc brake conversion on my 78 gmc jimmy. Changed out the proportional valve to disc . Bled all my calipers. But my brakes are still do I need to change my master cylinder?
The brakes are still?
@@Dicks4x4Garage yes they are still.
Did you ever figure it out? I was told you don't need a new valve
@@mblake0420 I did figure it out. I ended up putting a new master cylinder and booster to except disc brakes.
@@78squarebodyjimmy10 sounds like your master froze up
Great video, thank you!
Glad you liked it. Thank for watching!
It's coming along well man.
Thank you sir! Hope all is well on your side!
Way cheaper than buying those kits
Yep!
Do the hard lines connect to the calipers? Or do you have to fab some flexible lines with the banjo fittings?
I had a local hose company make me up some flex lines.
Speedway motors sells hoses with banjo fittings for $50
Wow I needed this video a few months ago!
Ha Ha, well hopefully it was entertaining! How did your swap go, you happy with it?
I didn’t swap it out because the kits were around 400.00 I seen! So I rebuild the drum setup! I’ll be ordering parts soon to convert it like you did!
Sounds like a good plan, I am going to tally up everything when I'm done to see how much it actually cost.
@@Dicks4x4Garage did you figure out the total cost ?
Will these work a 1978 dually
I am not sure, seems to me the bracket location might be different. I would recommend asking Offroad designs.
