Star citizen being push so far back is actually awesome! When i first dowloaded it yeaaars ago i was running it with a radeon HD7950 at 1fps 🤣 since than i have graduated, gotten a job, made some cash and now own a rtx 3070. 😎SC im ready
@@Farrister For a beginner a spaceport spawn location is a lot easier to walk around/navigate/take off...and double check for "helmet on" otherwise no display cues... All in all it is a very nice guide, I shared it on my FB!
I have already recommended this as one of the best primers I have seen for this game to date. You only inject the smallest amount of personal opinion in the game and you don't go off on wild tangents about some subjective opinion that is going to be rendered totally invalid when the games systems change in the future; just one such example being the physicalized systems that are going to completely change combat and persistence gameplay. You have no idea how tiring it gets to constantly correct people who are buying ships based on the game's current state and not planning for the future because most UA-camrs who post these kinds of videos make it sound like the way the game is right now, especially when it comes to combat, is how it will be on release. I find myself constantly having to help new players who have been influenced by them so they are not disappointed in the future.
Thank you - I'm always nervous of speculation, even though there are some great plans for this game, because we don't know what will be delivered or how it might change until it's in our hands. There are downsides of only talking about the game as it currently is, but it tends to be a more tangible state of affairs!
Don't. I've been a backer since 2013 and even though I only put $50 into the game, I still don't feel like I've got my money's worth. Don't listen to the cultist fanboys this is NOT a complete game by any stretch of the imagination, it's a selection of tech demos. What's worse is that it won't be complete since the CIG business model revolves around selling game assets that are not yet functional. So... no, don't. Give your money to developers who want to (and can) make finished games.
Watching this with more than a thousand hours playtime. You can never learn out. This video and the one of SpaceTomato summaries really good what this game is right now. This game isn’t perfect right now but it is a really, really good game and the passionate Crew of CIG works everyday to give us and them the game we want. Looking forward the improvements we will see this year! 3.13 is going to be huge if they deliver everything that is on the roadmap right now. Crossing fingers and a Happy new Year!

Sounds like one goal of the quantum simulation is to address that with a more insightful automation of law enforcement and consequences. Maybe that'll help??

Awesome video for new players coming into Star Citizen for the first time! As a long time gamer who has been an alpha tester on many games over the years, I can truly say there is and has never been any game this immersive for me even though it is still in alpha. I have thousands of hours logged in playing Eve Online and Elite Dangerous neither game has the immersion and feeling of fun as Star Citizen does for me. Yes the bugs and glitches can be very frustrating, I recently spent two days getting out of prison lol, but there is just something special about this game. As a backer of Star Citizen for a number of years, having put real money into the game more than I want to admit, if you go into it knowing there will be bugs and glitches and it is in alpha and understand progress is very very slow you can still have fun with it. Farrister everything you said was spot on for a new player I would add that the first ship you want to buy with in game money is a Cutlass Black for 1.3 million aUEC the in game currency. Out of all the ships I have bought with real money or in game money the Cutlass Black is still my go to ship for fun in the verse. o7
It's also not a bad idea to go into the Arena Commander single player before diving into the persistent universe. Arena Commander starts you out in your ship (no running around the station) and gives you an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the controls and do things like set up your HOTAS to your preferences (if you plan to use one) There is also no penalty for dying in Arena Commander, so you can try out combat and flight mechanics without fear of having to respawn at the station and wait for your ship claim to go through.

Just remember it's a work in progress. There will be missing features & bugs. They can be funny and/or frustrating. There's workarounds for the most common bugs so you can ask about that too or Google search for the bug with "workaround" added at the end. Good luck!

If Star Citizen succeeds as a simulator, omg this would change gaming for good.. We should be glad that developers are open in making progress of the game instead of flat out lying compared at what CD Projekt did with Cyberpunk 2077.
I don't know if you're still reading comments but I have two questions. I remember a while ago there were some story missions showcased, and one of the early versions of the alpha had some short story missions. Are there any of those in the game currently that I can do, and do I have to be close to a port to see it's missions? Also I heard there is a "prison" that you can wind up in, is there anything to do there besides just try and escape or mine your way out?
Still reading :) there are some story missions, which give you a physical location to go to. There are also contextual missions depending on what 'part' of the Stanton system you are in (usually which planet you are near). There is a prison, and it's just escape or mine or let the timer run down, but only naughty boys go to prison
I can easily tell you were averaging 60FPS or higher EVERYWHERE in this video. How?? Even in New Babbage it was super smooth. Do you have any tips on increasing FPS? I have a 2080 and only max out at 50FPS in space and average 20FPS in cities. I also noticed your player model textures were a bit low, did you tweak the engine's settings?
I have settings on max! I use a 3070 at 1440p. The only tweaks I have done are in the Nvidia control panel out of game, trying to find a sweet spot. I usually get 40-50 FPS, and try not to use footage that's too low or choppy
This was helpful but my problem is that I have the mustang starter ship and i dont have anywhere to put packages in the ship but the ship is holding cargo so do i sell cargo instead? Or is there away to put packages in the ship
How's the griefing in this game, have you encountered it and how do you deal with it? I've been reading about the PVP and seems like some of the people consider it an issue.
It can be pretty bad, but with server sizes limited to 50 people, your mileage may vary. I tend to fly larger ships these days, which means I'm a little less affected by it. But the devs are actively working on finding a balance - it seems to me that they want to encourage PvP, but don't want it to be toxic.
Nice video, I won't be wasting my money on these type of games where they're being developed forever and asking for endless money just like some scamming hi tech companies but it does look pretty interesting, We'll see how it'll do in the future....
I tell you what; the game is a long way from done but, with what it has now, it's absolutely a great time! I'd still hold out until infinity cache and vulkan compatibly comes out to buy in though. The biggest thing holding this game back at the moment is it's frame rate.

I actually bought the package you suggested a year or so back purely so I could watch this dumpster fire from the inside as well. I launched my ship got out of my seat and uninstalled. Anyway cool video you got a sub for sure, you may have even inspired me enough to install, log in and land.

Sadly I think I have misplaced the VAP file I created for voice attack and im not sure I can find the motivation to rebuild it until SC actually releases. @@Farrister Yeah it runs pretty smooth all turned up in 4k. I have a question though, didn't the Avenger pack have two ships in it? I know I had two but now its just the Avenger and the advertised pack only has the Avenger.
@@spasmmcspasm I don't know - I would have thought an Avenger pack would just be the Avenger? Most of the other packs or combo packs have a different name rather than named after a ship
You should also do a second starter guide out lying all the caveats, bugs and failings of every aspect covered...just to give a balanced perspective, because there is no way CIG has fixed anything, have the issues with the Cutlass Red/Roc/30k's been fixed?. Interesting and helpful all the same.
I tried to be balanced with my inclusion of the Alpha Testing section - from time to time bugs are fixed, but then new bugs come along. But that doesn't stop the game from being enjoyable for many
Great vid! However, IMHO now that splines are gone, I think Lorville is a better choice for initial spawn. Its more centrally located in Stanton system, has an easy store to find basic items & gear at Tammy and Sons, and the trains and elevators are IMHO less buggy than NB. But thats just me. Some people dont like to acknowledge that the future could be just as dingy and dirty as current.

if i want to get the mining rover, do I first need a ship with a cargo hold so I can transport the rover to different planets and moons or is there a way to spawn in a rover on the ground?
it looks absolutely outstanding and with a LOAD of perspective, BUT i bought the game and I cant even do the first quest because the pistol is bugged out... I CANT pick it up ?! am I doing anything wrong ? I've asked developer for a refund but they were not on the fond side to do so. Fine.. i still like the game, but what do I do now ?
@@Farrister ahh... I deleted the game after irage quit.. but I think I have something called mustang if it matters or has any difference.. mission is land on some rock and go inside caves and get pistol or something and its stuck ://
There's already a somewhat playable game. That's not to say I know the answer to your question, but you could ask the same thing of games like World of Warcraft, which have been going for years and years and still get regular patches. I find that the already playable game is fun and enjoyable :)
Great tutorial, but my question is can you SAVE progress in this game the way it is now. I bought the game several months ago, but stopped playing because every update returned me to the beginning and I would lose everything. Is this no longer the case?
At the moment, yes - although it's expected that there will be resets. So progress saves, but when a "major" patch is launched, it's anticipated it'll get reset.

Mustang cannot carry cargo from my experience. Game site states no cargo for this ship. Unacceptable for a game that is 10th rs old, on a starter ship.
I hear the game resets player save data after every patch, this is what's holding me back right now from getting the game its honestly a deal breaker, is this true??
Sort of. It doesn't happen every patch, more it happens at 'big' patches where a major new feature is introduced. It is expected to happen before launch though
There is also keeping in mind that resets will happen if a major exploit is found. CIG uses the data from people playing the game to decide how they are going to manage the economy in the future, so anytime somebody starts making gigabux from a flaw in the game, that data is skewed and they need to reset everything.
I first tried it in like 2015, back then it was almost unplayable and had very little to do, would you say the world has been fleshed out a lot now with much more stability? Can you actually enjoy it as a game, or does it feel like a proof of concept demo still?
So they're not regular any more. We're still told to expect wipes at major patch releases and before final game (whenever that is), but generally speaking it's been a while since we've seen a wipe, with incremental patches dropping the past few times and retaining progress.
Alright thanks, that's good to hear. I bought the game over a year ago but I'm still new to it since i kept getting wiped. Not knowing how to really go about making money it was a real grind only to lose everything. That and the way I was making money was by delivering stuff and getting disconnected from the server while doing that was maddening.

is 20-30 fps after 20 mins of idling/loading at initial spawn normal with an i9, 16gb ram and a 1080? after i load in if i leave the spawn area without waiting my fps is really bad
@@Skanderbeg99 sadly, honestly, I doubt it - but that doesn't mean you couldn't play! I'd suggest waiting for the next free fly event, then downloading it and trying it
I bought and downloaded the game, and yeah, it looks great. However, even my computer couldn't handle it. This was especially true when I walked to a metro station, the FPS dropped to something like 3! Even then, I said, "Ok, let's keep trying." I finally got to my ship, got in and everything was counterintuitive. No training videos, no instructions. So, I uninstalled the game out of frustration. I"m willing to try it again, but why can't my computer handle the graphics? Do you need a HAL 9000 to run this game? Processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1165G7 @ 2.80GHz 2.80 GHz Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.8 GB usable) System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor NVIDIA GeForce MX450
Ah I think it's probably struggling with the spec, which is quite low for a gaming machine. Especially for a laptop you would want fairly high powered to run the game well.

Don't get me wrong, SC is quite demanding and even top end systems get crappy frame rates from time to time. But I can see how it would struggle on low end systems :( did you read the minimum requirements before buying?

I really really want to like this game, it's beautiful, but I've lost count of the number of nights I've spent grinding endlessly only to have it all disappear in a puff of smoke.
In all fairness to SC, some of the trouble I've had is from a dodgy net connection. I switched from an internal wifi to a USB chip today, hopefully that'll help... Ah, nope. Literally as I was typing this my net connection dropped out again :/
I only very rarely get a crash, maybe once a month. More often I get a server kick, called a 30k, maybe once per day or once per 2 days. Sometimes more frequent, sometimes less frequent. You will likely encounter many bugs, but most aren't game breaking.
Ive learned nothing from this. Wow cool i have no idea how to mine fight or do trading. Could you atleast explain where is a good mining spots near new babbage, where to get the rover. and how to do combat?
Sorry to hear. I'm less convinced that there are specific "good spots" - I pretty much go where I find ore. I'll see if I can put together some more detailed professions guides :)

Very nice video. I'll wait until gold - if that ever happens - never going to pay to be a tester - testers are supposed to be paid. It seems many people don't get that as long as they're paying for the game to be made - instead of paying for a game that IS completed - there is no incentive for them to EVER finish it. See past decade for reference.
Reminds me of hiring contractors for inside house remodeling. They always ask for money and never finish unless you make that agreement that you'll pay them after they complete the project.
please stop suggesting that new players buy the avenger titan right away. its more money than the purchase of a finnished AAA game and it just got a whole lot easier to make money doing missions. its perfectly fine to recommend the avenger for people who do want to spend more money of course, but you can so easily just rent something like a cutlass that will be able to travel longer distances and have comparable combat capabilities or just get an avenger for cheaper. you can now earn more than a million doing missions in a day, so you can buy a ship in the 2 mil range really quick.
@@Farrister i would suggest to just go in as cheap as possible, test the game and rent ships, then worry about upgrades when people have had the time to feel it out and only make plans to buy something with real money maybe when a wipe is coming up, or they WANT to give the developers more money (i have spent lots of money on free 2 play games and it always started with me wanting to give them more).
@@Farrister thats fair, but i'm more worried about someone spending more than the usual retail price for a new game and then have buyers remorse because of all the bugs. i mean this community is much older than average so most of the 25+ year olds playing this game have an income and a reasonably secure life, but not everyone does. don't get me wrong, the avenger titan is a great ship to recommend in general, great bang for buck... but its just simply not that important to have the starter that can do it all anymore. theres plenty of good rentals that you can get for 24h by doing just 2 missions real quick... i would teach people how they can quickly and safely make some money doing missions with bad starters and then recommend options that they can work towards instead.
The Avenger is a good choice, it is a solid all rounder. Most of the less expensive ships have drawbacks that are harder on new players. I say this an owner of Aurora's yes more than one and a Pisces. While both are cheaper the Pisces lacks a bed, for in space logouts. Aurora's have the bed but having to toss cargo boxes in behind the pilot seat is somewhat limiting, 6 is about the limit. I still love my Aurora's and it is my go to ship and you can most certainly have a great time flying one, but for a brand new player the Avenger is the better choice if they have the cash.

I don't know if you're still reading comments but I have two questions.
I remember a while ago there were some story missions showcased, and one of the early versions of the alpha had some short story missions. Are there any of those in the game currently that I can do, and do I have to be close to a port to see it's missions?
Also I heard there is a "prison" that you can wind up in, is there anything to do there besides just try and escape or mine your way out?
Still reading :) there are some story missions, which give you a physical location to go to. There are also contextual missions depending on what 'part' of the Stanton system you are in (usually which planet you are near). There is a prison, and it's just escape or mine or let the timer run down, but only naughty boys go to prison

Ah hub just means a place where everything comes together (like the hub of a wheel, or a USB hub).
I can easily tell you were averaging 60FPS or higher EVERYWHERE in this video. How?? Even in New Babbage it was super smooth. Do you have any tips on increasing FPS? I have a 2080 and only max out at 50FPS in space and average 20FPS in cities. I also noticed your player model textures were a bit low, did you tweak the engine's settings?
I have settings on max! I use a 3070 at 1440p. The only tweaks I have done are in the Nvidia control panel out of game, trying to find a sweet spot. I usually get 40-50 FPS, and try not to use footage that's too low or choppy
This was helpful but my problem is that I have the mustang starter ship and i dont have anywhere to put packages in the ship but the ship is holding cargo so do i sell cargo instead? Or is there away to put packages in the ship
Not that I'm aware of, sadly I think that's one of the drawbacks of the Mustang as a starter :(
How's the griefing in this game, have you encountered it and how do you deal with it? I've been reading about the PVP and seems like some of the people consider it an issue.
It can be pretty bad, but with server sizes limited to 50 people, your mileage may vary. I tend to fly larger ships these days, which means I'm a little less affected by it. But the devs are actively working on finding a balance - it seems to me that they want to encourage PvP, but don't want it to be toxic.
I hope they get this on geforce now because my computer is bad and you make this look really cool.

Nice video, I won't be wasting my money on these type of games where they're being developed forever and asking for endless money just like some scamming hi tech companies but it does look pretty interesting, We'll see how it'll do in the future....
That's understandable :) The game as it is right now is far from perfect, but is still up there with many other AAA titles
I tell you what; the game is a long way from done but, with what it has now, it's absolutely a great time! I'd still hold out until infinity cache and vulkan compatibly comes out to buy in though. The biggest thing holding this game back at the moment is it's frame rate.

I actually bought the package you suggested a year or so back purely so I could watch this dumpster fire from the inside as well. I launched my ship got out of my seat and uninstalled. Anyway cool video you got a sub for sure, you may have even inspired me enough to install, log in and land.

Sadly I think I have misplaced the VAP file I created for voice attack and im not sure I can find the motivation to rebuild it until SC actually releases. I know I had two but now its just the Avenger and the advertised pack only has the Avenger.
@@spasmmcspasm I don't know - I would have thought an Avenger pack would just be the Avenger? Most of the other packs or combo packs have a different name rather than named after a ship
You should also do a second starter guide out lying all the caveats, bugs and failings of every aspect covered...just to give a balanced perspective, because there is no way CIG has fixed anything, have the issues with the Cutlass Red/Roc/30k's been fixed?. Interesting and helpful all the same.
I tried to be balanced with my inclusion of the Alpha Testing section - from time to time bugs are fixed, but then new bugs come along. But that doesn't stop the game from being enjoyable for many

Great vid! However, IMHO now that splines are gone, I think Lorville is a better choice for initial spawn. Its more centrally located in Stanton system, has an easy store to find basic items & gear at Tammy and Sons, and the trains and elevators are IMHO less buggy than NB. But thats just me. Some people dont like to acknowledge that the future could be just as dingy and dirty as current.
It's a fair option, I much prefer the beauty of New Babbage!

I'd say it's usually 40-60 FPS. As for how, I'm not really sure what to say, I'm only 1440p but RTX 3070 really helps.

if i want to get the mining rover, do I first need a ship with a cargo hold so I can transport the rover to different planets and moons or is there a way to spawn in a rover on the ground?
You can spawn it straight to the ground, but it's slow, so you would do well to rent a Cutlass Black when you do mining!

it looks absolutely outstanding and with a LOAD of perspective, BUT i bought the game and I cant even do the first quest because the pistol is bugged out... I CANT pick it up ?! am I doing anything wrong ? I've asked developer for a refund but they were not on the fond side to do so. Fine.. i still like the game, but what do I do now ?

There's already a somewhat playable game. That's not to say I know the answer to your question, but you could ask the same thing of games like World of Warcraft, which have been going for years and years and still get regular patches. I find that the already playable game is fun and enjoyable :)
Great tutorial, but my question is can you SAVE progress in this game the way it is now. I bought the game several months ago, but stopped playing because every update returned me to the beginning and I would lose everything. Is this no longer the case?
At the moment, yes - although it's expected that there will be resets. So progress saves, but when a "major" patch is launched, it's anticipated it'll get reset.

Mustang cannot carry cargo from my experience. Game site states no cargo for this ship.

Sort of. It doesn't happen every patch, more it happens at 'big' patches where a major new feature is introduced. It is expected to happen before launch though
There is also keeping in mind that resets will happen if a major exploit is found. CIG uses the data from people playing the game to decide how they are going to manage the economy in the future, so anytime somebody starts making gigabux from a flaw in the game, that data is skewed and they need to reset everything.

There is. It's very simply called auto land, and when you're hovering over a landing pad, it brings you down safely.
'Star citizen is controvercialy still in development' meanwhile over at CP2077 'give it another 5 years in the cooker ffs, it's nowhere near done'

It's still unstable. But it's a playable game, and very enjoyable, especially with friends.

The discouraging thing is the wipes, or have they been stopped? I have the game but its depressing to play only to lose the all the progress
So they're not regular any more. We're still told to expect wipes at major patch releases and before final game (whenever that is), but generally speaking it's been a while since we've seen a wipe, with incremental patches dropping the past few times and retaining progress.
Alright thanks, that's good to hear. I bought the game over a year ago but I'm still new to it since i kept getting wiped. Not knowing how to really go about making money it was a real grind only to lose everything. That and the way I was making money was by delivering stuff and getting disconnected from the server while doing that was maddening.
@@jay-1172 that can still happen from time to time, but is much more rare. There are also more options for money making, across combat, delivery, trading, and mining

is 20-30 fps after 20 mins of idling/loading at initial spawn normal with an i9, 16gb ram and a 1080? after i load in if i leave the spawn area without waiting my fps is really bad
I upgraded from a 1080 just a few months ago. With.the 1080 and a 9900k I used to get 30-40 FPS. It's very server specific though

I bought and downloaded the game, and yeah, it looks great. However, even my computer couldn't handle it. This was especially true when I walked to a metro station, the FPS dropped to something like 3! Even then, I said, "Ok, let's keep trying." I finally got to my ship, got in and everything was counterintuitive. No training videos, no instructions. So, I uninstalled the game out of frustration. I"m willing to try it again, but why can't my computer handle the graphics? Do you need a HAL 9000 to run this game?

Ah I think it's probably struggling with the spec, which is quite low for a gaming machine. Especially for a laptop you would want fairly high powered to run the game well.

Don't get me wrong, SC is quite demanding and even top end systems get crappy frame rates from time to time. But I can see how it would struggle on low end systems :( did you read the minimum requirements before buying?
this game looks like an even slower version of elite dangerous. very pretty though. i hope this game isn't nearly as grindy as elite dangerous.

Can someone tell me how much bugs get in the way of gameplay? How many crashes occur in, lets say, 10 logins?
I only very rarely get a crash, maybe once a month. More often I get a server kick, called a 30k, maybe once per day or once per 2 days. Sometimes more frequent, sometimes less frequent. You will likely encounter many bugs, but most aren't game breaking.

Very nice video. I'll wait until gold - if that ever happens - never going to pay to be a tester - testers are supposed to be paid. It seems many people don't get that as long as they're paying for the game to be made - instead of paying for a game that IS completed - there is no incentive for them to EVER finish it. See past decade for reference.
It's a reasonable point of view, personally I have fun just hanging out in game with friends - as much a social sandbox as anything!
Reminds me of hiring contractors for inside house remodeling. They always ask for money and never finish unless you make that agreement that you'll pay them after they complete the project.

please stop suggesting that new players buy the avenger titan right away. its more money than the purchase of a finnished AAA game and it just got a whole lot easier to make money doing missions. its perfectly fine to recommend the avenger for people who do want to spend more money of course, but you can so easily just rent something like a cutlass that will be able to travel longer distances and have comparable combat capabilities or just get an avenger for cheaper. you can now earn more than a million doing missions in a day, so you can buy a ship in the 2 mil range really quick.
What would you suggest?
@@Farrister i would suggest to just go in as cheap as possible, test the game and rent ships, then worry about upgrades when people have had the time to feel it out and only make plans to buy something with real money maybe when a wipe is coming up, or they WANT to give the developers more money (i have spent lots of money on free 2 play games and it always started with me wanting to give them more).

@@Farrister thats fair, but i'm more worried about someone spending more than the usual retail price for a new game and then have buyers remorse because of all the bugs. i mean this community is much older than average so most of the 25+ year olds playing this game have an income and a reasonably secure life, but not everyone does. don't get me wrong, the avenger titan is a great ship to recommend in general, great bang for buck... but its just simply not that important to have the starter that can do it all anymore. theres plenty of good rentals that you can get for 24h by doing just 2 missions real quick... i would teach people how they can quickly and safely make some money doing missions with bad starters and then recommend options that they can work towards instead.
The Avenger is a good choice, it is a solid all rounder. Most of the less expensive ships have drawbacks that are harder on new players. I say this an owner of Aurora's yes more than one and a Pisces.
While both are cheaper the Pisces lacks a bed, for in space logouts.
Aurora's have the bed but having to toss cargo boxes in behind the pilot seat is somewhat limiting, 6 is about the limit.
I still love my Aurora's and it is my go to ship and you can most certainly have a great time flying one, but for a brand new player the Avenger is the better choice if they have the cash.
