What an enlightening overview! Your detailed discussion of the Barbaresco wine region is both informative and captivating, besides being so insightful and interesting. I appreciate the way you highlighted and explained the distinct qualities of top Barbaresco producers Gaja, Bruno Giacosa, Produttori del Barbaresco, and Cascina delle Rose. This video will surely prove valuable for wine enthusiasts of all levels, whether they are novice wine lovers or seasoned wine connoisseurs. I definitely think it’s a must-watch for anyone who wants to deepen their knowledge and understanding of Barbaresco. Certainly an indispensable and authoritative reference material for those who are planning to start a Barbaresco wine collection. Thank you for making this excellent video-superb in so many aspects! Cheers, John!
@@AttorneySomm You’re welcome, John! Yes, I really enjoyed this video! It also brings back memories of my visit to Barbaresco and my wine-tasting at Produttori del Barbaresco. This video certainly serves as a great validation of my purchase!😅
Love your videos John! I don't miss a one of them. I feel like a long lost brother at times such as with Barbares co. I have enjoyed Gaja, Bruno, and Produttori. And at the price standpoint Produttori is always a must grab! As with most wines i wish i would have started my collection a bit earlier as i have many Bruno's & Gaja's 2011,13,15, 16's still a waiting for enjoyment. I have had a few earlier vintages and everyone of them have hit it out of the park. I have never tried the Casina delle rose but i am going to search and i am certain i will enjoy! Thanks again John!!! Always enjoy your wine. No sense in drinking unless you are enjoying!😊
Thanks very much! Well said! Completely agree with you. Very glad you enjoy the videos! Sounds like you have laid some excellent groundwork for future enjoyment! Definitely think you will enjoy Cascina delle Rose too. Hope you have a terrific weekend!
Very informative & helpful. No fluff & straightforward, YET far more engaging than most regional overview videos as it only covered the most pertinent & interesting information, which was easy to understand without being “dumbed down.” Great job!👍🏽☺️
Tried to leave a comment about my trip to Barolo and Barbaresco last July and that Gaja was the highlight with private tasting and tour for over 3h. Others including Marchesi Di Gresy, Marcarini, and Vietti. Dinner at Campamac in Barbaresco was great as well.
Great stuf, love the extra information on the region. I picked up some much. I was fortunate to visit the region last summer. Visiting Produttori del Barbaresco and staying in the beautifull city of Alba. 1 Barbaresco that suprised me during a dinner at Lalibera (big tip to visit) was the 2019 Piazzo Barbaresco from the single vinyard plot of Pajoré(Treiso). I was blown away by this wine and was able to buy a case back home. Its stil ripening in my cellar and i hope it will taste just as good as that night at the restaurant.
Thank you! And thanks for sharing this wonderful experience! Sounds like a terrific wine! Appreciate you mentioning it. Definitely a special region to visit!
Don’t ever lower your standards to espouse only the finest of the finest. Just watching your videos makes me feel as if I’m escaping to a magical place, even if I might not be able to afford to try all of these treasures myself.
Thank you! I definitely try to feature wines at a variety of price points, but only wines that I think are high quality. Very glad you enjoy the videos!
@@AttorneySomm yes, I have bought some of your more affordable recommendations, too, and even some that were ever so slightly outside my price range. That’s because I knew I could trust your recommendations.
Great video yet again! At 20:56 that Gaja looks orange. Also, I use the Produttori and Ratti as cellar defenders against single vineyard Barolo's and the Barbaresco Reservas.
One quick clarification. The Cascina delle Rose vineyard total is just for Barbaresco. They have 5.5 ha total, 1.65 of which is in the Barbaresco DOCG.
Fantastic episode taking a well paced look into the wines of Barbaresco. I am a big fan of Nebbiolo, but I don't get a chance to enjoy really top-notch producers wines as much as I would like. Other than Produttori and cascina delle rose, are there any other producers you can recommend in their price range?
Thanks very much! Glad you enjoyed it! Marchesi di Gresy is another producer you may want to consider. Also, Michele Chiarlo and Pio Cesare have Barbaresco now too, so you might try those if you enjoy their Barolo.
Great video! Definitely gave me some options to consider. I enjoy Barolo, but I find myself enjoying Barbaresco as much or more much of the time. Perhaps because it’s a little more forgiving, and a better value at its price points as you mentioned. Completely agree with the flagship Produttori as one of the greatest values in the world, at least when I could find it for $35 a few years ago. I’ve shared these wines with several friends who really took to it. One in particular visited every local wine shop and bought all he could before I had bought what I had hoped to obtain! I guess the moral of the story is get what you want before letting the secret out? Or maybe a better lesson would be to tap the knowledge of friends’ to find new favorites. I’ll try to be optimistic and go with the latter!
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed it! Yes, that can be a problem! 😂 I usually stock up before I feature wines here for that reason. 😂 Hopefully he will share them with you later. 👍🍷
Hi John, out of interest, in your view what is a reasonable drinking window for the 2019 Produttori? I had a bottle recently but found the fruit hiding and wondered if it's just too young.
Hello: Great question! Yes, I would definitely give that one at least 5 years, but preferably 7-8 more years. 19 is a tremendous, yet very classic vintage that will need time to come around. 20 and 18 are definitely better for early consumption in the meantime.
You didn’t mention 2018. I bought a few bottles of '18, mainly from Produttori del Barbaresco, because it is a fruit-forward vintage. The one bottle I have drunk so far is pretty well drinking well now. I'll open those before I tackle my '13s, '15s, '16s, and '19s. Again, a French weekend for us: Pouilly Fume this evening with the porc aux pruneaux, and a 2010 claret with the roast beef tomorrow. Thanks, again, John.
Thank you, Steven! Yes, like 2020, 2018 is an early-drinking vintage to enjoy before the others you list. Sounds like a nice plan! Hope you enjoy your weekend!
The 2020 Chianti Gran Selezione has just been offered. I have decided to bid for three bottles of the Volpaia Coltassala. Have you tasted? Btw, the CB 2010 claret this evening was excellent (Les Moines, donated by a house guest a couple of years ago). Hope you are enjoying a good wine weekend.
@@stevenholt4936 Glad the claret showed well! I’ve had the 2018 & 19, but not the 20. They are fairly consistent though so I think you will be happy with it if your bid is a winner. Cheers!
Bruno Rocca, Piero Busso, Roagna, Giuseppe Cortese, Sottimano, Carlo Giacosa, Marchesi di Gresy, Cantina del Glicine are only some of the other names to check out. Long live Barbaresco!

Thank you! Great question. I definitely enjoy the Giacosa Arneis. I’ve featured it in other videos. They also have a sparkling wine that is outstanding.
