Painting on Shoes with Mont Marte Signature Fabric Paint!

- Today I will be painting on a couple of pairs of white canvas shoes, using a set of 36 fabric paints by Mont Marte (which I also review). This was so much fun and I've been wanting to paint on shoes for ages! Let me know if I should make more painting on shoes videos in the future.
The fabric paints don't seem to be readily available on Amazon at this time, so I will just be linking the local store where I bought them, in Melbourne Australia.

They turned out great Becky. I painted a pair of canvas sandals in a deep blue colour with Liquitex acrylic paint and they turned out really good. The paint didn’t crack because it’s such good quality and lots of people asked me where I bought them!

Both pairs of shoes turned out great! I like the rainbow jigsaw puzzle the best. The silver outlining on the jigsaw shoes was a a brilliant idea. It made the colors pop. Well done!

This was a wonderfully refreshing video, Becky - thank you! I like both pairs, but prefer the rainbow pair, because I love rainbows! I also wear a lot of pink, so the second pair would match that, but I'm really not into daisies - or rather, my eyes don't exactly love lots of small things close together in a design. They start to dance very quickly and that can be dizzy-fying!
Daisy-fying! 😂 I decided to add those last minute to break up all the pink, lol. I hope to paint some more because it was really fun and I have lots more ideas for designs.

I bought the larger set also just recently. Love working with them so far, will test them once finished and heat set by washing the fabric.
I'd love to hear how they go after being washed! I haven't washed my shoes, lol.

Loved them both. Congratulations!!! But if I were in your shoes, I would definitely leave all the boundaries behind and replace the laces for some really colorful ones. That would be fabulous!

Wow, how cute are these! I feel like you always do a really good job with makeovers, and shoes were such a fun idea. I think i also like the puzzle piece pair the most, they could really spice up a plain top with jeans or shorts! That fabric paint is useful too, you could even use it for a hat or bag or something :)
Thank you, and you've definitely voiced a lot of my own thoughts about painting cloth bags and clothes etc. I like wearing the shoes with plainer looking clothes - they've been working well so far for me!

both pairs are really vibrant and awesome looking but I do prefer the pink ombre ones best, if I had to paint my own shoes (btw I so don't have the patience for it) it would have to be a really dark galaxy looking shoe with tons of stars, I'm not a person who likes really bright colourful clothes, I'm defo more of a muted wardrobe kind of girl, lots of black and greys with a hint of earthy tones going on in my life, I'm very introverted so I like to fade away into the background and not stand out, people would certainly see you coming in either pair of them shoes! Fantastic video once again, I really enjoyed it :D
Thank you! I did seriously consider painting galaxies, but the pink colours were calling my name, haha! On my next pair of shoes this is most likely what I would paint. I also wear a lot of muted clothes, but every so often I like something bright.
I did a shoe video a few months ago for my channel and I have worn them outside (only when the weather is nice, so they don't get destroyed) and actually had someone come up to me once and asked me where I got them from. So for me, I would wear them. You create the styles based on your own likes and I think they are fun, especially heading into summer and I can guarantee, you too will have people begging you wanting to know where you got them as well :)

The shoes turned out awesome, I love the designs you painted on them - the gold & silver as the finishing touches really stand out :)
A few years back I went to a fancy dress, it was a '70s party - I painted my shoes - shoes just like these - up with paint that (I realised later haha, lesson learnt - I cant remember what paint I used) wasnt waterproof - I ended up being caught in the rain, the colours blended/washed together - they looked like they were tie-dyed, which went perfectly with the '70s theme haha.
Haha oops, but at least they tie dyed look worked too. I really hope these are waterproof! 😂

Good job! I love them both. I recently painted some canvas shoes with Derwent Inktense & fabric medium.
How did the Inktense go? I forget that those can go on fabric!
@@BeckyTregear It went well - good to work with, only I forgot to wash them beforehand, so a lot came out when they needed to be washed. After that I drew/painted over the original and then hardly any came out in the next wash 😁.

Those are great!!! I wear an 8 too 😁. I have fabric paint, I wanted to paint a tshirt for my dog, then I realized it was 3-D paint. Not sure if I can un-3-D it lol

Ooh,I love the pink shoes and just knew you would put a gold rim on the soles, they look great! The silver really uplifted the jigsaw pair! I would have painted dragons I think, and would not be averse to design that was asymmetric that crossed the two shoes to complete one image for something unique. Not saying yours aren’t! They absolutely are… the paints looked great too. Did you know liquitex makes something that turns their acrylic paints into fabric paint, it’s is supposed to be very durable…. It would be nice to know how your paints work on black fabric shoes too…..
Thank you! I feel like I have barely scratched the surface with these; there are so many design ideas out there and I definitely want to try some more challenging things in the future. Dragons would be amazing and now I'm adding that to my list, lol! That's interesting about Liquitex; there's a medium for everything these days! I think they had black shoes too at Big W so I might pick up a pair next time. The set I have has some metallic colours as well.

Get some silver ribbon to make shoelaces and gold ribbon for the pink shoes. I like the pairs equally. For the thirsty colors, paint white first, let it dry and then put the thirsty color on top. The white should seal it. If you want to play more you can test using a fabric medium with fabric paint. It can act like a sealer too. Also those paints should work on vinyl and leather. Just clean the item with alcohol or acetone. Buy or belt at the thrift store to practice on.

Haha well any surface is fine - it is the creation of art which is the most important bit. Spring seems to have been forgotten here; it has been raining endlessly for months and the last couple of days have been bitterly cold!

The shoes came out really well 🎉 Can you wash them?
Possibly, but I am not sure how much the paint would wear off. It is basically waterproof acrylic paint, but they do feel a little fragile - I want to find some Scotch Gard or something to spray over them.

Those turned out cool. How long does it last
The fabric paints should last pretty well, though maybe not the gold and silver bits on the rubber as that's not the best surface. I guess time will tell on these as I have no experience with wearing painted garments like this.
Hi Becky, I love them and would wear both patterns on my hokas. I need shoes with good arch support. I tried decorating a shoe with zentangles using fine liners, but gave up after the first shoe. Well, I finally got covid. Yuck.
Oh no! I really hope you feel better soon, it's no fun at all. 😥 Shoes are very time consuming to decorate; these two pairs took me many hours.

Hey Becky I’m in Melbourne from Ararat and would love some art store recommendations. I know the art shop in Bayswater and I’ve been to zart. I’d like to know about that big office works that has all the art stuff you talked about?
That is Officeworks in Mentone, on Nepean Highway near Southland shopping centre. It is massive and has loads of art supplies which usually only can be bought online but this one store has a lot of them actually in stock. Not far away on Warrigal Road in Moorabbin is The Art Shed, and they have a pretty cool range too, stocking pretty much everything by Mont Marte and all sorts of other brands (their website is good). There is also Senior Art which has a few stores dotted around Melbourne. My video tomorrow will talk more about them, haha.

on the instructions it says to 'fix' the fabric paint by ironing it after it dried, did you end up doing any heat treatment or did you just leave it?
I guess I didn't read the instructions....🤣 But I've just left them as-is and they're fine. 😊
If you put them in water will the paint be removed or not?
No they're acrylic based paints so once they dry they're waterproof. But anything handpainted will be more fragile in general so I'd take care when washing them.
So is it best to base it with white fabric paint first?
I just painted straight onto the canvas and it was fine. Maybe a layer of white would help prevent further colours from soaking in? I was a bit too lazy to test that. 😂
Hi does the paint comes off when you wash them?
I have not washed them, lol! But it might do a bit....I would wash them very carefully by hand, maybe with a damp rag.
Will the color be permanent on the shoes
Yes, they're still looking good. I mean scuffs and wearing are to be expected but otherwise no problems at all so far.

Not too long, a few hours maybe?
How long do the paint last on the shoes
It's permanent, the paint is still looking great on them. I mean if you get them super wet or muddy it'll probably make it wear off faster, but for general wear there doesn't seem to be any issues.
Did u seal your paint
I didn’t but I guess you could use a sealant spray for extra protection. My shoes are still ok though without it. 😊
Is this paint is water proof ?
It's the same as other acrylic in that once it dries, it becomes waterproof. Or at least water resistant! I think it would wear off with too much washing though, but otherwise a bit of rain won't be a problem.

Yes, though they'll probably wear out more quickly if they're wet too often.
