I bought Liftoff over a month ago and still have little to no clue as to what I'm doing. The game should have links to your vids. Thanks a lot for your input!
+1👍 thank you, i'm gonna RE-watch a second time soon & download that track. I live streamed an hour of Liftoff session the other night. Took me awhile to config those rates. Thanked you in the description.
I found this video really helpful. But regarding the suggested beginner course... It's a good course because of some easy gates, some harder, and it's only two laps. Having to do the tricky bits 3 or more times is depressing for a beginner. But at the same time it's not a good beginner course because having to download it is an extra hurdle (we're not all Steam pros) but more importantly, it's too easy for a beginner to leave the level boundaries and have to restart. You can have god-mode on (no damage) and hit t for throttle if you crash, but a restart is a restart. Realy depressing if you're ten minutes in. I think experienced pilots forget how hard it is. My first full completion took 18 minutes for two laps, with the crashing and doubling back. And I was still so happy when I did it.
I do appreciate the steam maps aren't the easiest things to get onto but sadly none of the default maps used nice big gates when I made this video As for the restarting and length of track, for me personally this is why it's good. Because you can gauge your progress as you improve you'll be finishing this with no crashes and getting faster as you go Flying fpv does take a while to learn, and I feel applying that learning in a track gives you a way to focus your practice, gauge progress and stop you from just flying aimlessly, where you aren't really learning the more nuanced control you will.need to tackle the typical tracks you'll find in liftoff
@@RobIsNow I get you. It's just there were a few times I was doing so well (for me), then I would leave the area for a few seconds and get dumped back at the start. Really depressing, although I'm far better now (only a few weeks later!). Me and my daughter have really enjoyed the pit, and done "way down in the hole" so many times. One lap, and some nice straights to line up the gates. Either way, it's a great video and got me dabbling with rates for the first time, so thank you. Also, how do you fly that beginner course so fast and smoothly. Something I can only dream of!
completely missed this reply! i would imagine if its been 5 months and youve been practicing, you will be able to fly that track a lot faster and smoother than when you wrote this reply... thats the secret! practice, practice and more practice! ...but finding some rates you are comfortable with is also a big help! :D glad it got you dabbling into that
is it just me or is horizon mode by far the most comfortable? what speaks against using horizon mode indefenitely? why would I want to change from horizon to acro? it just feels less natural
Hi Thorsten, its very much a question of what are you aiming to get out of your flying. The main downside with horizon mode is if you want to hold an angle for any amount of time, you have to be able to hit it with your sticks and hold it; where as Acro mode you set the quad at the angle you want, let go and it holds this position. I would always recommend setting up and flying in a mode you are most comfortable with. If you find horizon mode more comfortable and intuitive, then i would say use it, the different options are there to suit the different preferences people have. For me flying in Acro (not that ive flown in quite some time sadly) gives me a better range of control, however if i do get into a situation where i want to level out my quad, i have a switch configured so i can automatically switch to level mode to sort out any orientation issues when im flying.
Angle mode is also known as an assisted or self-leveling mode. In angle mode, the drone tilts forward/backward/sideways in accordance with the angle of the roll/pitch stick relative to the center position. For instance, if you press the stick 30° to the right, the drone tilts 30° to the right. Once you release the stick, the drone will automatically go back to its leveled position. If you push the to the max, the drone will tilt up until a predefined angle and stop there. It will never flip.
Rob: I'm using a tx 16S and I am having to apply 1/4" of down pitch to keep it from climbing to 50 feet . Iam at barely 1/2 throttle. Also in controller it wont let me assign switches on my radio to restart or arm. buttons I can add np. ty for any help. noob of course. J
hey, i would say this depends on how close you can mimic your build in real lift to the build in liftoff... rates wise, it should be the same in terms of the raw numbers... but the drone feeling dialled in on those rates might differ - this said general terms, its pretty spot on
as in which flight mode? hopefully your drone will allow you to switch between them anyway, but the best practice imo is acro mode, and once you have got used to that in the sim, you can translate fairly safely into real life flight
You can simply use the up or down arrows on the keyboard before you take off, Once you've found an angle that feels good be sure to set up a drone with that angle in the workbench area so you don't have to reset each time you start flying
Hey, im pretty new to fpv flying and been practising with my own controller for a few days. I feel like I can't fly very precise and when I turn it takes much longer and every movement doesn't feel as "sharp" as in most of the videos I see. Im using the default settings and don't know if its due to the wrong settings or just lack of practice :D any advice?
in flight you can press escape on the keyboard to bring up the pause menu there are rate settings in there but you're better off adjusting the rates on the workbench as I don't know if they save between flights otherwise
I would double check your sticks are centered properly You might need to adjust the trim for your sticks to remove the drift Alternatively adjust your deadline in the controller set up screen
@@RobIsNow i fix this one thanks for replying. I'm still having problem to control the forward pitch speed is there any way to control speed? Or reduce
@@prayashshakya9770 you can lower the rate for pitch, but be mindful this will make pitching forwards and backwards slower So find something you are comfortable with and then just practice tilting forwards and backwards until you get a really good feel for it
You can use it, but I would highly recommend going straight into acro mode, with some low rates. This will save you having to relearn everything when you want to do the more acrobatic flights
Start basic just focus on how much throttle input is needed to get you up in the air And then bring you back down Then focus on flying forwards, in acro mode just tap your pitch forwards abit until you are drifting forwards Then tap it back to get level again Keep practicing that until it makes sense Then apply this to yaw and roll Also don't try the races with small gates until you feel a bit more comfortable with all the controls
Thank you so much i have just started practicing with taransis x9d se and just checked out your lesson that was very informative and helpful for newbie like me. Ok i will practice with acro mode . I hope i would see some more videos on how to fly fpv
You need to subscribe to tracks in the steam workshop. They will then download and appear in the game But the track and the race are two different parts so both need to be subscribed to
@@RobIsNow Thanks for your reply. I did subscribe to the track, and something did show in the game, but when I clicked it, I was taken back to the Workshop. I didn't realize that I needed to subscribe to the track and the race. That must be the issue. I got it to work! Thanks for the info.
Ah glad you got it sorted I've just woken up sorry I didn't get you the reply sooner, I even found my old video on it 😅 ua-cam.com/video/k3w9UPqAYqg/v-deo.html

Sir, thank you!!! As many of the others commenting here, I finally understand the modes 🤩👍and especially the settings.
Finally! Someone who explains this to the T. Bravo and thank you! Subbed! 😎🤙
i was going to quit and then I found your videos - thank you!
Thanks for explaining how to start in Liftoff Simulator. Just subscribed.

What is ‘angle mode’ as that is how the BNF I’m getting is set up.
I’m already flying acro so I won’t need it but wondering what it is.

How could I change the DJI FPV controller to letf handed in lift off?
Also… how well does the liftoff rates correlate to real world characteristics?

super helpful thanks
Question. How can I change the camera angle viewpoint? Thanks.
You can simply use the up or down arrows on the keyboard before you take off,
Once you've found an angle that feels good be sure to set up a drone with that angle in the workbench area so you don't have to reset each time you start flying
What are all the buttons Im pushing for these changes?
all on the keyboard and mouse, "A" is switching modes without going into a menu. but mouse is mostly used in the menus
