- One of the reasons I love Kpop is because of the fashion ... but sometimes it can go wrong! Today's video is Fashion Expert Reacts: Kpop's WORST Styling Eras. The original video was created by Yoonist, and they released a Google Form so their viewers could submit what they thought were the worst styling eras in Kpop. Yoonist's video is hilarious and it's really interesting to view the worst styling through the fan's perspective.

mark actually hated the firetruck styling so much he sort of cried to taeyong about his hair and clothes and taeyong did his best to talk the stylists into letting them alter their clothes. (127 members revealed this in an interview a couple months ago)
He literally got the shortest end of the stick every time. that some weird stuff to put on a 17 yo who's probably emotionally vulnerable enough just cause he's debuting, they should've been more considerate

I personally the hairstyles were okay(?), well they were better when compared to Mark’s and WinWin’s hair in Limitless era...

I loved ON styling except for the beige outfits. The only thing the beige outfits did for me is make me realize that a deep v-neck with V’s fake tattoo is hot.

nah this video did ON dirty lmao. Those outfits were really good. They were styled really nicely and kept the theme that each member had. It matched the stage perfectly and the aesthetic of the song. I really liked ON styling, it was just right and not too flashy or over the top. but dont get me wrong, they were eye catching. it was a nice balance imo :)

@@kristin123a i do tho. The outfits were supposed to represent the dystopian theme that they were going for, with the whole ON mv. The beige outfits fit that aesthetic well imo. Also, yea that chunky harness may be a bit off, but overall the outfits were good. Not all outfits have to be flashy to be good :). They were innovative and different, especially when most of the kpop industry is reusing the same 2 styles over and over again.
I really sometimes think that SM stylists are on drugs all the time, they should give my girls and boys an award for going on stage dressed like that, every day I pray for their dignity 😭 Thanks for the video George! xoxo

He’s an artist that can choose what to wear, or why else would he wear a crop sweater in tempo, only a blazer with a gun holder in the love shot live stage or his deep cut in Mmmh 🤔😅

Yeah I agree with you! Obsession doesn't belong in here haha. EXACTLY Kai likes to show some skin and we love to see it haha
He mentioned it before in the Obsession behind the scenes I believe, with how it’s a little embarrassing and was trying to cover his stomach with his arms or pull down on his crop tops. But I feel like he separates Kai and his on-stage presence from Jongin enough that he’s comfortable enough with it when he’s in the zone and playing the part and knows it’s just a small part of the job.
Perhaps the same as how some actors manage to play parts so contrast to their own irl personalities or tastes, whether that means playing intimate with someone of the same sex even if they don’t lean that way themselves at all, play someone promiscuous and shows a lot of skin even though they’re far from that in their personal life, or play a truly detestable villain who does terrible things to someone. U just gotta get in the zone and put your personal life preferences aside to act the part for the time being.
The parachute harness might chafe you in a way that you don’t find particularly comfortable, but if you truly enjoy and are passionate about skydiving, you’ll look past that and it won’t matter as much in the grand scheme of things when you’re doing what you love. Same for Jongin and dancing/performing.

There is for instance a video of Taemin (ua-cam.com/video/d3rtKvBdaz0/v-deo.html), who confidently takes his shirt off during the Danger performance and covers himself up with his hands the minute he is offstage. Kai and Taemin are very similar to each other in this aspect. They both love bold stage outfits and have very strong, sexy on-stage persona, but are quite shy off-stage. And it's not because someone makes them do the sexy concepts, especially at this point in their career.
There is a video of Kai saying he isnt use to it and keep pulling it down tho..?
@@Dashomin I don't know the context, but that's what we keep saying - wearing a revealing outfit on stage feels differently than wearing a revealing outfit while talking to people off stage. Kai chose to wear revealing outfits for his solo work as well. It doesn't mean that he would feel comfortable wearing such outfits while buying milk.

In another video, I defended SM styling. At the time, I wasn't thinking of how consistently Red Velvet is terribly dressed outside of MVs. They've definitely been done wrong by several stylists. It's not even the clothes just being ugly, but unbelievably unflattering. How can you send some out to be eviscerated by the cruel netizens looking like a block? Idols already get so much unnecessary commentary on their weights despite most of them being severely underweight. It's like they went out of their way to make them look fat. They have the entire fashion industry available and somehow find pieces in the most unfortunate fabrics and cuts.
I was also totally unaware of earlier NCT127. YIKES! I don't even understand. Maybe the concept was "outfits that make you want to set yourself on fire". The looks would've been someone understandable if they'd happen in the early 2010s, but it was 2016! Still, the a bigger crime is the hair and make up imho. They had Jaehyun walking around looking like someone straight out of TOWIE he was so orange.
NO OBSESSION SLANDER! First, Exo doesn't get dressed at this point without their input. Kai is comfortable being a hoe on stage and literally rips his shirt off all the time. He wouldn't have OK'd the crop top if he didn't want to. Kai even continued to work with the stylist for his solos. Kim Wook, the stylist, just won Style of the Year @ Gaon this year. He did Aespa's Savage, SHINee's comebacks, Taemin's Advice, Key's Bad Love, and Kai's Peaches this year.

SM's styling now is usually on point! I don't understand it either. Hahahaha the TOWIE reference has killed me 😂 I haven't seen that show for so long! HONESTLY! No Obsession slander haha! Kim Wook is an incredible stylist 😍
@@georgehollins I thought they couldn't match his skin tone, but he's literally always been super pale? So was it fake tan? The shade range in Korea can be dismal, but SM is literally always working with MAC and other foreign makeup brands that have an extensive shade range.

@@almilall oops, i meant 2016. if they had all been in snapbacks i would've understood. also, uniforms were still in style. they could've worn something more similar to each other and it wouldn't have been super outdated or boring. they could just added more streetwear to SHINee's View styling and called it a day. i think Limitless was the last big flop styling wise. once again, i thing the hair is the biggest offender. even if they don't consider it a problem to don on black-hairstyles, it's still offensive to the eye. poor winwin.
I actually unironically love the styling for fire truck...I mean Jaehyun was rly orange and Marks hair looked horrible sometimes but beside that I love it sm. Like maybe its because i'm in the alternative scene and love unconventional stylings, but the skirts, spiked chokers, coal eyeliner, and best of all winwins hair.
For Loona's Why Not styling, the reason why this got so confusing is because the whole album concept was "festivals around the world"
The cowboy outfits (ver B) are inspired by Coachella
The "red carpet dress" (ver A) surely come from big musical/film award show like the The Festival de Canne
The photoshoot in the middle of the night (ver C) are "playful festivals looks"
The white jumpsuits (Ver D) aren't a festival look, it's their typical "Loona are one" (normally they all wear white dresses)
In Why Not MV, they make to references to the Holi festival from India
Even their comeback concert was called "midnight festival"
Wjsn (cosmic girls) are highly recommended, especially their unnatural and save me save you stage mixes; their stylist is one of the greatest in the kpop girl group industry; trust me, you will not be disappointed. btw love your content as always

Some of WJSN's dresses are my absolute favourites! I really love I Wish and Save Me, Save You's outfits in particular.
When Red Velvet got a new stylist the words "Oh! thank God!" came out of my mouth with a sigh of relief 😂 I mean they've gone through some questionable looks over the years & that may be an understatement with Zimzalabim era!

NCT Firetruck and RV Zimzalabim outfits reminds me of when I age up my Sims and let the game choose their outfits. It's highly chaotic and unredeemable

I STRONGLY disagree with on, they wore different outfits for that era because they had 2 music videos that had two different concepts so they some how had to make that work; that’s why all they’re clothes looked COMPLETELY different every time they performed

I also don't know what obsession is doing on that list.. because this era is from 2019, exo already had enough freedom to say no to anything that would make them uncomfortable. They didn't have to show much skin either, but some members chose to, and it's totally normal. See, they already din't have to diet too hard, but Kai said that he just wants to go for these abs and looks. Yes, he did say that he was uncomfortable off stage, but that was in dmumt era (2018), and this whole crop top thing was relatively new for him. But he's an Artist and he wants to bring the best on stage, it's his choice

He said he is kinda shy with crop tops...but that's was only for backstage or before and after performance. He is a performer. He loves crop tops and showing off his maintained abs. He wasnt uncomfortable during performance.

The taste! Obsession is what got me into EXO as a whole and was one of my top songs last year. I’m a huge fan of the styling it was impeccable and def the guys didn’t look uncomfortable at all (at least to me)
The minute I first saw the firetruck outfits my respect for 127 went 📈. I would’ve walked out crying if someone told me I had to get on a stage in front of thousands people dressed like that
there are horror stories about that era. I think Dreamies were saved only 'cause of the uniform concept and the fact that kid-like clothes rarely ever look good, but oh boy they also deserved a bit better than what the hell was that makeup on Haechan...

nahh idol outfits were slayful it was inspired by traditional african clothing since the song & dance moves were also inspired from that. plus the whole era was about intentionally being over the top colourful kitsch & idgaf energy so i think it was well done plus everyone looked hot
I feel like twice's styling became so much more better in feel special era and every era after it and you can definitely notice when you look at dance the night away and alcohol free styling, they're both the same concepts but one of them is clearly executed better, like I didn't hate dance the night away stage outfits but those white shoes ruined the summer and beach aesthetic every time

Kai and Suho both reveal their abs more than anyone else in the group and they do it quite willingly, on variety shows or during concerts. These 2 members are the ones that keep themselves the fittest, so they are pretty much "ab reveal" ready at any time. Also, Kai has said that he is shy when wearing these things OFFSTAGE, but On stage and on camera, the boy could not LOOK more comfortable in those crop tops. And frankly, Kai and Suho both looked amazing in their outfits. I thought the stylists actually hit a home run with Obsession. Wolf era was the only era that I think was universally unflattering to every member of EXO. It was pure tragedy, from their live performances, to the MV...
when they were talking about how the outfits during ON did no member justice... THEY ALL LOOKED SO DAMN GOOD!!!! everyone is entitled to their own opinion, so i'm not attacking the person. but i love the outfits during that era!! everyone looked amazing!!

I think Firetruck's stylists are strategists. I mean, almost 6 years have past, NCT have a lot of great styling now, but we’ll never forget how “f*cking Jesus Christ” awful this era was🤣 this is too bad to the point that it became iconic-

As many people said in the comments, I also think that Obsession shouldn't be on the list because this was one of EXO's most iconic eras and I think I read before that Kai was a little bit embarrassed for the crop top but not at the point of being uncomfortable because he is confident about his body and also is used to show some skin
Yass Blackpink Playing With Fire and Nct Firetruck eras are hilarious. That's super embrassing me as a blink. Also they both on the same era so I notice NCT too. when I saw these two group winning Rookie of The Year and gave speech together I was so shock with NCT's style like how on earth somebody put those clothes on them. I think I'm one of the few people who liked NCT's old styling, at the time I thought they looked very cool and stood out to me so much and I especially enjoyed their hairstyles (especially Yuta's Hairstyle) maybe that was the intention but he was the one who immediately stood out to me when the mv came out and I just wanted to know more abt him after that because he looked so badass. Anyways haha I honestly still enjoy those looks till this day and I think they rocked them ! even tho they might not have aged well for some people since obviously it's 2022
No cause same TOT. Maybe its my little emo/punk heart but im literally in love with the styling. Ofc there are some things i dont rly like, example i love the outfit mark wore on the red carpet with the skirt, but the metalic gold leggins were not needed. My fave styling though has to be Taeyongs. He fit it so well! Also so many photos taken that era are so aesthetically pleasing to me

That first thing kind of reminded me of the "cheerleader costume" my cousin made out of a yellow trash bag when she was nine...
For BTS' ON outfits, I personally liked them, in most of the stages they were looking really good. For IDOL, I liked all the outfits too, although the colourful suits were a bit too colourful, specially when they went to those american talk shows wearing them I was cringing a bit bc they looked too much out of place... but the designs were really good for the performances and stages. The outfits I really hated personally were those brown and nude outfits from ON, with the random pieces of dangling fabric as if they just pinned a bunch of fabric together to try resemble a piece of clothing 🤦🏻♀. They were so strange and they really didn't look good, although the members kinda made them work... But I really can't watch the performance where they wear them, it's too much of an eye sore for me.

I actually like the outfits that you've linked haha. Would I personally wear them, no but I quite like them. I think they're by Rick Owens and his stuff is usually black and greys but the draping and the cuts, very much his aesthetic
@@georgehollins oh damn! Didn't realise it was Rick Owens lol, I'm not that versed in the fashion industry. Now that you mention it, I realised they actually wore a lot of his clothes for other performances too, and I liked those. I didn't like these outfits bc of the particular colors, shapes, and materials used, specially Jhope's outfit, but maybe I just have a very poor or basic taste in fashion 😂
honestly it takes talent to make V look bad, but his outfit was the worst, I didn't hate them all but the colour palette overall was a bit meh
I thought all the beige and tan tones were cool and I loved the fabrics but tae’s shoes were completely wrong. It was like he forgot to change them before he went onstage😭
for Kai, rather than uncomfortable, I think he's shy. He felt like the crop top was perfect for x-kai, but to walk around wearing it off stage, is not something he'd do. But on stage, he'd show off the crop top.
Not really sure about the other group, but EXO slayed that concept;the makeup, clothes and hair were all perfection either on the MV or promotions.
with on era the beige outfits they wore in the mv were different than the ones they wore on stage that one time, but i gotta say that the mv ones were perhaps my FAVORITE outfits of that entire era, like cmon?? it was GIVING

Truly, what is Obsession doing on that list?! (I'm glad to see most of the comments I read agree!) Not only is it one of my favorites in terms of styling that matches the concept of the new release but in my opinion after that we saw similar and more frequent darker styling the following year. More PVC, even more crop tops on guys, and more general combat-ish outfits (I'm blanking on how to better describe them). I'd even say it has somewhat continued and metamorphized into things we're still seeing. (Boy, was I disappointed with the combat/work outfits for Don't Fight The Feeling.) That may be a stretch to some but I'm just thinking about some ATEEZ, TXT, and Stray Kids' looks the past couple of years. Probably more, but that's what is standing out in my memory right now. As well as, I should point out that those are groups I don't keep/haven't kept up with. You should do some reactions to gidle. One member is no longer in the group (their main dancer) due to a bullying scandal that has so much evidence to be thrown out it's ridiculous. But cube is known for being a bad company and terrible at managing groups, ie clc. But gidle is almost completely self made since cube can't manage them, so they write and put together their own songs. Hopefully soojin gets to come back soon.

On era to me honestly doesn't look bad at all. The styles really fit the vibe of the song. Idol, however, could be done much more better. Also, Obsession and Not shy didn't deserve to be on this list. Personally, I believe the styles for them were actually good.

kai doesnt feel uncomfortable in croptop in the way that op interpreted, he did say he was uncomfortable with it, but more like when he's not performing and had to walk backstage. he chose to wear croptop especially the first time he did for the i see you concert stage. he always gives input in his clothes and always prefer to have it suit the concept and theme of the song/performance.
