- Performance from Bravas Club in 1991. This song also known as " Bird of Paradise" by famous C.Parker performance. This S.Watanabe play is also great.
(Drums' Harvey Mason. Guiter; Perry Hughes, Organ; Ronny Foster)
Watanabe had his sax lesson right after mine at Berklee. I always loved his playing.
one of my favourite sax men and one of my favourite standards...pure magic
What a lovely way to present the theme melody. Sadao's sax sound got much richer around this period from a somewhat squeaky thin one.
What a way to go Sadao.
Vow, what swing.
Vow, indeed. Vow.
Very smooth a fast... carefully not leaving the excellent passages out....!..... brilliant
Amazing Talent.
Master on alto sax clean be bop what a blessing this man to Music.
One of my favorites. Sadat watanbe.
Maravilhoso! Sadao um grande músico!!🎷🎷🎷🎷
Ronnie Foster touches my heart deeply
Just one word:
SOLID! 😎
Oh my Word such a lovely tempo .... 💘
I attended Berklee College of Music at the same time as both Sadao San and Harvey Mason. They are both great jazz innovators each in their own right. Some 50 years later I find it interesting ... the melody and chord changes are approached in a linear way. Today, jazz education has become structured in a more vertical way with respect to improvisation. The melody and soul are lost. These guys are great!
Thom Pastor I agree...I hardly hear melodies in most song, just improvisation..nevertheless,I’ll take that over mainstream music, any day
Hi. Could you please explain what linear and vertical improvisation is. Thank you.
@@claragary Vertical improvisation improvises more on the chords while linear improvisation sticks to the melody.
I feel very sorry for your Berklee stint because the older I get the more I got angry for the 4 years I wasted at Berklee !
Couldn't agree more. There are amazing musicians today but very few artists you want to actually listen to. Melody and soul trumps shredding for me any day.
Great. Been a fan of his ever since the trib to charlie parker album. And that was some years ago :)
Classic example of someone who's already past their mid-life, but has some of the freshest playing out there!
Great finding this one.
Fantástico!
Holy mighty lord... that sound!!!
beautiful
great , just great

@@junogura345 what do you mean F, he's still alive
Yesssss. Now sadao.
I've forgotten how great Sadao was. His tone and execution is fantastic!
interesting
I was thinking how thin and small his sound is
LOVE his midrnge playing but he is a bit shy up top......
I tried to get a Yamaha to sound great but I really think it can't be done....
( oops he's on a selmer?then NO excuse!
How interesting to find a thin listner in the whole world.Hope there is no trace of racia prejudice.l
I think his tone isn't as big as some peoples but it definitely works for him
Perry Hughes, Detroit’s finest picker. Nuff said.
great music !!!
All masters thank you
Sounding wonderful!
Fabulous" what more can we ! Say ( cheers to you all )
Yes...
Fucking awesome!!!
Sadao watanabe.
nice
merveilleux... ♥♥
what a good piano solo
Right out Japan...
Sax 🎷👍👍
All The Things You Areの演奏のお手本ですね。
A Bird standard. Sadao Watanabe lives!
Git it now
Sadao looks like a Japanese version of my dad.

Nice lines...but would this be melodic?

he is the japanese version of paul desmond xD
I think Sadao is more aggressive than Paul. They are both entirely different players (I like them both).
???? nothing like him
Charlie Parker of Japan
Hmmm. He could be. I do like them both but Watanabe best. 🐦🐦

Titi Odorigues from Tokyo Japan (╹◡╹)

There is actually no life for people who play this kind of dated music anywhere in this high tech world!
S W ToDi What music should we play instead o wise one
Does that mean that there is death for those who can't feel it? There is NO progress in art- it's ALWAYS now.
