- The Yuma Tornado is historic, but it wasn't at first. Here's the whole story, from close up on the ground to days after the assessment. Reed's footage shows the amazing behavior of the tornado, and some clues after the fact help to fill out the investigation. What do you think happened at Yuma on August 8, 2023?

Ah. This made me emotional. I thank God for you, Reed, and thank God the parents were watching this stream & able to warn their kids. It’s very important what storm chasers do. I agree, Reed has an uncanny ability to read these sometimes beautiful tornadoes but sometimes deadly to..

'Could be', 'may be'. But it is not key. Key to what? Plus that spinning top comparative is way wrong. A spinning top in free space has a declining speed and moves about due to gravity and it's own equilibrium due to it's spin. Whilst a tornado is the result of active forces acting upon it. Therefore it is not necessarily decreasing speed. 'Motion like a spinning top. What were you trying to say. That some how you have discovered one of the most important cyclonic deductions of the decade? LOL Are you kidding? Ask a average intelligent High School graduate what the motion of a tornado is like and he may tell you it is primarirly rotational. Or spinning. That is why they were named Tor-nado. tor as in turning. Cyclonic as in circular. So the discovery that it is going round and round is not as new as some young people may have imagined. It is common knowledge. has been for milenias. Also-My belief is 'Storm Chasers' are not important. People are important but not storm chasers or people who want to put their lives at risk chasing the most dangerouse activities when all the work is generally all ready done by metrological Information centers. Storm Chasers are not first responders but secondary as they react to secondary intel from more primary sources.

I’m like you!! Or, I was. I feared tornadoes bad when I was young, after seeing a neighborhood that got wiped out in my neck of the woods when I was about 8-9 years old. Then in 1974.. senior in high school( geez, just told me age!!🙄😂) that devastating day of the tornado break out my town along with so many others was hit terribly. My dad picked me up from school, then my mom from work. On the way home, an F4 barely missed us, trees and power lines falling all around us. A big trailer park was completely destroyed just a few hundred yards from us, killing anyone who was home. I seen that monster, and I will never forget, but it put so much fear in me. The Bible says 1Timothy 1:7 God has not given us a spirit of fear but of a sound mind. It also talks a lot about His people die from lack of knowledge. I decided to combat my fear by learning all I could about these storms, which, like you said, both terrify and fascinate us!! Once I learned all about them, and could watch and read radar myself, and become aware if the conditions around me was conducive for a tornado. My fear subsided with this knowledge. When, in 2016, my home was destroyed by a high end EF3, I had learned also in where my safety lay. In God’s protection, and in knowing what to expect. God bless you, and stay safe!!🙏🙏🙏❣️❣️

This might be the most incredible tornado footage I've seen, it looked so photogenic and was documented in such a great way, being so close to it, seeing all the different types that it morphed into, its like a science lesson happening in real time. It truly is just astonishing to see. Amazing work again from Reed Timmer and everyone else involved! :)
Wowza.... I didn't realize how rare of an event this was! We were also on this storm, chasing it ourselves, but given that this was our VERY first tornado, we played it safe and stayed a good few miles away from it... now I realize that perhaps that was a wiser call than I thought... being as inexperienced as we were (It was only our 8th chase ever), we could've gotten into trouble had we been a lot closer and hadn't realized what it was doing! Sure we missed out on some epic footage, but I KNEW Reed was on this thing, and I KNEW other, more experienced chasers would be a lot closer, so I wasn't as worried about missing out. We still saw it in wedge form as it first developed, and then later as we drove away on one of our escape routes, its more stovepipe shape, and lastly, the outstanding mothership structure of the overall storm, so I'd still call that a great success, as safety trumps everything when we're still learning!

That is a very sensible attitude! Better to stay clear & survive, than to go for the "Killer shot" and get caught up in a bad situation. Experience counts in storm chasing, so it's best to control your enthusiasm so you can get that experience.
Stay safe out there, and always have an escape route in the back of your mind.
I believe what Reed does is absolutely amazing and very nessesary for the saftey of people all over.

@@ThatOpalGuyon top of that it is always important to keep a good eye on weather. It can change unexpectedly. You can rely on storm chasers but at the end of the day your own eyes and judgement will be the deciding factor for your situation. Even a mild thunderstorm seek cover if you have any doubts. Storm chasers put their lives out there. But when any storm comes always be prepared. Those split second decisions can save your life

Your ability to see a tornadoe that's out of the norm and going to do something different is also remarkable! To know when to get out of dodge and trust your instinct is what keeps you and who's with you safe when other storm chasers have lost their lives! This is why when you're on air, people need to watch your streaming in the location you're in! We need storm chasers on the ground because raders don't always see them! @@aylahughes9185 Doubtful. I do expect more severe weather though. An increase in temperature is going to increase the amount of water that evaporates and enters the atmosphere during daytime heating, meaning stronger storms in general. We will see though.
I've been watching storm chasers for many years. This is the most fascinating thing I've ever seen. Thank you and all storm chasers for putting yourselves in harms way, to protect as many and stop and help victims along the the way. In my book, you are the best hands down. lol you clearly know nothing about tonga. it was the largest eruption in the last 1000 years by far. significantly larger then the one that created a mini ice age in the dark ages. we are still in the noise, the refractory period. the true nature of what it will do to our weather in the long term remains to be scene. two facts about the eruption.... one non disputed and easily googleable, and one not so much- the first is that an equivalent of over 60000 Olympic swimming pools of water were ejected into the upper atmosphere at a height of above 32 miles of elevation meaning that it was injected above the ozone layer. and 2, in the 10 days that it erupted it emitted more gaseous methane, and gaseous c02 then humans have cumulatively in all our existence combined. check mate climate loosers, its over, nature won. we will be priveleged enough to see what that victory looks like over the next several decades. @@kimjunguny

I watch each live stream almost religiously during the worst of tornado season. I was very bummed to have missed the Yuma tornado live. I really like this type of educational video! 🌪️ Im so glad that beautiful family are okay.

Wow! Good thing Reed really understands tornadoes and what they’re doing. A lesser experienced storm chaser might’ve gotten caught in that tornado. 😮 Almost seems like it was chasing Reed wherever he went.
Honestly when I saw it stand still I was like oh shiiiiiiiiiiii. Immediately. But maybe that's just me😂 if you don't see it moving side to side then there's a greater chance it headed right for you

We were on this storm. The mesoclyone on this storm cycled a few times before it actually dropped a tornado. Even before dropping the nado the movement of the mesocyclone was a bit erratic. Wobbling east or west quite dramatically at times. Very strange storm.
I don't know if this would count as an additional form but I caught a rope out of a tornado on the yuma storm with my drone time lapse. At the time I thought it was a second tornado but in retrospect its prolly the end life of the same tornado.

Interesting. Happens the same day as Maui fires. The hail looks like cloud seeding and the tornado itself is a huge anomaly. Absolutely stunning footage
@keenansampey3415 there’s something fishy going on that started years ago. Too many anomalies most recently around the fires… California, Canada, and now Maui. And this. Most ppl aren’t aware that in the days leading up to 9/11 there was a major hurricane off the Atlantic coast & NYC was in its direct path. Yet nobody in the MSM was reporting it let alone warning New Yorkers to prepare. And then what was even stranger, about a day before it was to make landfall, the hurricane made an unexpected sharp 45° turn to the north. When I learned of this years later I didn’t believe it so I pulled up archived weather maps and there it was tracking towards NYC and making that big turn. I would have thought it a fantastic coincidence but with the media blackout I can’t help but be very suspicious.
They can microwave your ass any time of the day. Enemy of the state film was the first big hint.

That media-censored tornado was one half of an atmospheric electrostatic dipole. The other pole being the front moving in from the east at the same time. A sky-based circuit, if you will, used to charge the electromagnetic interference zone (phase conjugated longitudinal wavepairs from two or more frequency emitters) that were used to molecularly disassociate the Twins.
Weird storms and tornadoes are usually not nature. We've been seeding and steering them since the 40s.

You may not like his screaming but Reed is passionate about storm chasing. He expertise showed so much here that is almost hard to state. This man while in the moment noticed the tornado was doing something strange and made the correct course of action to get out of the way. Amazing.

He's always done this. Not just the screaming (which I love lol) but he can watch the storm for 10 secs and know exactly what its doing. It's always been fascinating to me. It's like he's been doing it 80yrs only that good on day 1 since he was fresh out of college. Just glad he's out there doing this, its so great.

I've been watching your adventures for years, and as what I believe to be my first comment to you, God bless you Reed. Your work is SO important, literally life saving. Your wisdom in navigating Yuma saved lives and made a very different future, perhaps for generations to come, for a local family. What the atmosphere was doing...parts of the sky looked like dentrites.
Others like strands of hair.

Colorado storms produce absolute magic. Just had a tornado on top of Pikes Peak that also caused an avalanche. Crazy!!
It’s been very active here this season. Didn’t get to see the tornado that hit east of us last month because we couldn’t get outside due to the hail. I’ve never seen hail like we had that day…I’ve been here a long time and imho this season was unprecedented. So much moisture…it rained most of the summer. Looking forward to hopefully some major blizzard action this winter!

I live in OK now and your live feeds are a crucial watch now a days. Thank you for what you do.
I'm a 75 year old Texan, living near Wichita Falls, and I've seen quite a few tornadoes in my day, but I've NEVER seen anything CLOSE to half of these shapes in multiple tunnels much less all in one. This was the most amazing thing thing... Words escape me, and I write for a living.
Truly remarkable folks. Sure glad y'all captured this beast but even more glad it didn't EAT any of you. You guys are truly selfless heroes. Thank you for your service to better understand these beautiful monsters but most of all for saving lives.
Definitely a strange path for sure. I'm so thankful people like Reed exist! I am curious as to why this one is stranger than the path of the grand island twisters in 1980, probably tornado number 1, which made around 7 loops. That was an insane path like never seen before or since. I'm disappointed it wasn't mentioned. Great video though, keep up the good work!
Yea the two looping tornadoes mentioned are not the only two loopers. Pretty disappointed in the misinfo.
Edit: Should add that the Grand Island tornadoes aren't the only other loopers. The Elie, Manitoba F5 also looped twice, and I have no doubt there are other cases.
Not saying it isn't rare. But it does happen, especially with slow moving storms.

The 2007 Elie, Manitoba, Canada tornado also had a very erratic path, with sharp turns and several loops. It was noted for it's "peculiar slow forward speed". So maybe you're onto something here with connecting storm speed with funky paths.

Reed I would LOVE to take you up on that Storm chase invite whenever you find yourself in west texas again!! LOL.....this was a cool video because I just recently added you on youtube this year. I used to watch the TV show storm chasers and loved it. This season, we had a close call with a tornado that went thru Matador, and then came south towards us in the dark. It went to our east by about 50 miles. Two days later we drove over to matador to witness the damage and aftermath first hand. Its incredible what a tornado can do, and thats what led me to finding your channel and getting back to watching your footage/chases. Great stuff that I also believe saves lives. Speaking of lives, I think your decision to move when that storm looped probably saved your life....LOL.

I'm a meteorologist that has seen every episode of Storm Chasers... so that's where the 'attitude' above came from. For me, the most horrific part of that cast was Professor Can't Chase or Forecast At All.
You did well, mostly. You had the drive, and most importantly, the gut instinct. As you of all people know... this is science and art and SWAG (Scientific Wild-Ass Guess, for the uninitiated).
You did very well on this, and regained my respect, not that that matters.
