I asked my 30-year-old daughter to watch this. She was upset with me because now she can't get the tune out of her head. BBT has fast become one of my favourite groups. I had tickets to see them in Toronto in 2020 but the show was cancelled due to COVID.
I found this band a couple of years and instantly fell in love with their music. Very much early Genesis sounding, a HUGE compliment from me.... HUGE !
A particularly well done piece that is recognizable as as prog rock but sounds like it came from now, and not 1979. Thank you for offering extraordinary talent while not being hopelessly derivative. I'm playing your EP on a loop. Wish I could do more for you. Cheers.
The band know what they are doing - and they are doing very well indeed. Looking forward to the release of the EP and any other projects in the near and distant future. Well worth the wait when the results are as good as this.
Good to hear new music from Big Big Train. A progression to more folk influence whilst sounding rockier than ever. Organ playing bigger role than previous. EP is ordered.
+swinetrek I'd love to agree with you, but I've been listening to Far Skies Deep Time. I wish I hadn't bought it. They are as good as always with their playing, but the songs are weak. I won't be playing that disc again. English Electric Full Power and The Underfall Yard are the albums I play to people to demonstrate how good the band is.
Apple tree, old apple tree Bountiful we raise a glass to thee We sing our song Stand fast, stand strong Bough and leaf bear fruit aplenty In Eden gone, when the world was young Paradise was where it all began Just one bite was all it took Expulsion and the fall of man Apple tree, we bless your crown Yield much fruit or fell ye down Raise your roots Hear me, tree! Bough and leaf bear fruit aplenty Wassail - Bring new life Wassail - Be alive Wassail - Blessed be Wassail Wassail King, hear us sing Through the orchards And the village green We sing our song Stand fast, stand strong Bough and leaf bear fruit aplenty Wassail Queen - Oh my, oh my She is beauty personified Raise her up to the bough of the tree Blessed be Wassail Return to the womb Deep down in the earth Wait for the spring rebirth The clayen cup We douse the roots With cider kept from last year's fruits Cut in twain A five pointed star A sign of who we are Let spirits fly The apple of my eye Wassail
OUTSTANDING!!! Prog lives. BBT is just one more of the bands regenerating progressive rock over the last decade. If you like this you need to listen to there previous releases. Support this band...they deserve it.
This is a great song. It was always apparent that BBT's music, certainly since 2009, was strongly influenced by early Genesis. With this song, it became apparent to me that it was also influenced by Peter Gabriel, as it reminded me of Sledgehammer quite a bit. I had never seen the official video of the song before, but how great is it? It's based on footage taken at Real World studio, when the band booked time there in 2014, in an effort to prepare itself to play live shows. In a recent interview with Greg Spawton, I learned two things: that David Langdon composed Wassail after being inspired during the band's stay at the studio, and that Real World is actually Peter Gabriel's studio. How's that for a coincidence?
Curt Howland I actually thought it was nice being so crisp and crunchy like a bite of an apple. I'd imagine that feel could be quite sensitive to audio equipment setup though.
Curt Howland I know exactly what you mean - so many tracks with that kind of spike give me a bit of a headache - but if you can get equipment to produce a wide soundstage then you find it's not too dominating at all in this case. Shall hopefully hear what it's like live tonight :)
dananskidolf Very cool! Enjoy! I'm looking forward to StarTrek level computers, where I can say "Computer, reduce the snare to the same volume level as the piano."
Gorgeous sound
Great composition
Skilled musicians
But above all, I love bbt's unique song subjects

R.I.P. Mr. David Longdon.
Like early 'Genesis', steeped in English folklore. Excellent!
Iain Spence reminds me of more Jethro Tull
I missed these releases somehow! Great to find them... killer tunes, this is!
Very exciting to hear such excellent new music from BBT!!! This is above my expectations! Great work guys!

Very nice tune & vid. Glad I saw the link on Matt Steady's FB. I hope to get back to the UK someday for a live listen. Cheers from Greensboro, NC
Man, so glad I found this band, good song.
These guys are amazing. They never release a bad song.

+Miss Ann Thrope I absolutely love "The Wide Open Sea".
Apple tree, old apple tree
Bountiful we raise a glass to thee
We sing our song
Stand fast, stand strong
Bough and leaf bear fruit aplenty
In Eden gone, when the world was young
Paradise was where it all began
Just one bite was all it took
Expulsion and the fall of man
Apple tree, we bless your crown
Yield much fruit or fell ye down
Raise your roots
Hear me, tree!
Bough and leaf bear fruit aplenty
Wassail - Bring new life
Wassail - Be alive
Wassail - Blessed be
Wassail
Wassail King, hear us sing
Through the orchards
And the village green
We sing our song
Stand fast, stand strong
Bough and leaf bear fruit aplenty
Wassail Queen - Oh my, oh my
She is beauty personified
Raise her up to the bough of the tree
Blessed be
Wassail
Return to the womb
Deep down in the earth
Wait for the spring rebirth
The clayen cup
We douse the roots
With cider kept from last year's fruits
Cut in twain
A five pointed star
A sign of who we are
Let spirits fly
The apple of my eye
Wassail
Sophisticated is the only word I can come up with, also beautiful.
Brano d'eccellenza, magistrali nel groove, atmosfere celtiche.....adoro gli BBT
Stupendous! My favorite working band strikes again! Album pre-ordered!

Looking forward for the DVD!
This music is indescribable.
This is so awesome!!!
Beautiful and stupendous.
A big thank you to Darren Redick and his Prog Rock Show on Planet Rock for introducing me to Big Big Train. Excellent!
What a band!!!.......
Today all BBT fans birthday? Torbjörn Janson, today's my birthday too! A great gift from BBT!!!

Special meaning now, this song & video. Very sad.
Of course, today is Wassail day in the south west of England, where the tradition originated.
Great song!
Way to go guys!!
Yes, BBT are one of the best these days.
Sounds pretty good.
Divine......
Very nice. I like that it differs a bit from English Electric, a positive move forward!
It is like Kansas goes to Ireland!!-EXCELLENT!!!
This is quintessentially English, not Irish at all.
And brilliant.
ohh!-my badd-lovely music!!
Can't get enough of BBT
Ooh er. Very Pagan!! Big Big train are awesome.
Que buena banda
Big BIG Sound
I hope it's mastered better than the last few albums (the sibilence was killer).
This has a bit of Traffic about it. Definitely a Steve Winwood organ sound.
Класс! Настоящий прог!
Two weeks to go...
👍😊
BBT AND Isildurs Bane!!!.
How the hell can this get 12 thumbs down!
The snare on the 3rd beat really ruins it for me. It's just too loud.
Curt Howland I actually thought it was nice being so crisp and crunchy like a bite of an apple. I'd imagine that feel could be quite sensitive to audio equipment setup though.
Dan Houghton
It does work musically, it's only that the audio wave spike is just so much higher than the rest of the tune, that it lances the eardrum.
Curt Howland I know exactly what you mean - so many tracks with that kind of spike give me a bit of a headache - but if you can get equipment to produce a wide soundstage then you find it's not too dominating at all in this case. Shall hopefully hear what it's like live tonight :)

Curt Howland Cheers! Haha yeah, that'd be pretty cool.
