Fake. It's not the one week training. The true MVP was that guy at the guitar shop. He was one hell of a teacher. He corrected his pick holding and insta-shred ability unlocked.
That's a quandary for sure. You don't want to spend a ton of money if the student might change their minds, but a well set up quality guitar is easier to play and properly tune and intonate than a cheaper guitar. I probably couldn't currently play the guitar I learned on. You had to have vice-grip hands to fret it cleanly and the strings were probably 1/2" above the fingerboard. I exaggerate, but you get the idea.
Oh yes! Them 245s! still thinking about whether to get an SE tremonti. But anyways, this is the best part about being able to master shredding and sweeping. Man, makes me wish i'd really taken guitar more seriously 10 years ago! :P

A good music store should give great attention to beginners. Not only do you get to introduce someone into making music, it's how you create store loyalty. Too many shops have staff that make it uncomfortable to be a rookie. If you want to jam out with a cool set up (you don't have at home) go ahead and play Smoke on The Water or Iron Man. All of us players have been at that point at one time. The snobby disdain drives beginners away.
