As someone who used to own an '06 B9 with the 7 seat option, I want to chime in regarding leg room in the second row. The second row is able to be slid forward and back via black metal bars located below the main second row seats.
However, in addition, and this is something that is little known, is that there is an additional lever near the outer corner of each second row main seat, which is a yellowish orange color.
After you have moved the second row as far back as possible with the black bars, upon then using this yellow orange lever, will then allow the second row to be even further back (though this is mainly intended to be used when you don't expect to use the third row, or have young children that are still relatively small), giving ample, and I mean ample room for the second row leg room.
I am 6'2" with long legs, so my seating position was also quite back, and with the second row moved using both levers, I tested sitting behind my seat, and my knees were nowhere near close to touching the back of my seat. Never had complaints about rear leg room from other passengers. I wish it was something that was more known.

Still own my Tribeca. Reliable on the road. Gas mileage is 16-19. Wide track tires are good for traction and stable on turns. AWD is a bonus in snow and ice. Never got stuck. Luxury interior. Nice heated seats and adjustable. Nice ride. Door side puddle lamps are out. Getting parts or fixed is cost prohibitive. Uses too much oil due to the way the piston rings flex and get stuck over time.. I used fuel additive to get better performance and mileage. Engine uses 6 quarts, not 5. Get upcharged for more oil. Best for short distance daily driver. No major issues. Center display panel is faulty, it works then errors out. Displays accurately when it works. AC, brakes and pretty much all else is good. If you need long distance car, this is not it. The Boxer 6 is loud and throaty but like a timex watch. The Sealed transmission still good as it approaches 200,000. I do not abuse this car. I will be selling soon for a gas saver car. Likely an Impala or Malibu. They get up to 26 MPG and are good road cars for 400 miles in a day.

i cannot believe you didn't talk about possibly the weirdest thing about this car. The fact that for the first 1 or 2 years it was called the "b9 tribeca" and had a front end that was supposed to look like a hawk eye impreza. people thought it was so ugly that they had to change the front end styling a few years in

It was weird and quirky but unique and interesting. The style they reverted to is boring and unoriginal. I prefer the 06/07 styling and yes I own one.

As you said that it failed, but that you mentioned the Big Three were better options than the Tribeca, I tend to differ as most of them were plagued with recall after recall from what I have been reading online.

I mean just because it had those recalls doesn’t mean they’re fully bad right? (Except for the Explorer which is a mix bag)

I remember seeing the B9 with that weird grill. I was so flabbergasted by it and was wondering what the heck it was. They barely sold any of them. And they changed the grill to this.

Tribeca is short for "triangle below canal" which is what New Yorkers tend to do to their city names (Noho is North of Hudson, Soho is south. Etc.) also Domingo is Spanish for "Sunday"

Today there cars stand out in a crowd...an amazing achievement for an SUV. They're unique because they're a little quirky AND relatively rare. While the first gen one is a little too weird for me, I would be more than happy to own a newer loaded version of one of these 2nd gen versions. The cherry on top is that they are CHEAP!

I got myself the same model year (2008) as this one but Limited Edition. Full leather & heated seats, sub-woofer from factory and sunroof. Looked it up and other optional extras for the limited edition were a backup camera & sensors and dvdNAV. Good stuff for the price when its competitors were being sold for $6000 more at the time without AWD. I've been pretty pleased with the car, especially in the snow.

I have the exact same car only in the 2 row version and the limited. Down to the color. At the time, I was considering a rav 4 and a Honda CRV. I think tour being a little over critical. I had the car since March of 2008. I currently have 158k on it and it has served me well. I am getting ready to retire and going EV the Tesla Model Y feels pretty much the same behind the wheel. 3 rows aren't meant for these vehicles. If you want that much seating, get a mini van.

  • @damilolaakanni

One of the reasons why it failed was the styling. This wasn't the original design, Subaru had to redesign it after two years because more people hated it than the people who loved it. Secondly, it was probably the least practical three row SUV at the time...if you don't count compact crossovers that had three rows as an option like the Toyota RAV4. The back seats were pretty tight, and it wasn't just the third row.

Fuel economy of midsized crossovers in 2008 according to the EPA. Source:www.fueleconomy.gov. Disclaimer:1. I'm only comparing 6 cylinder AWD models.
      2. The list does not contain all the midsized crossovers on sale in 2008.
Subaru Tribeca: 16 City, 21 highway, 18 combined
Toyota Highlander V6 (AWD): 17 City, 23 highway, 19 combined.

It looks like a Hyundai. That interior looks very mid-00s with the silver and black plastic everywhere. It was a meh attempt at a 3-row SUV but Subaru took notes and came back with the Ascent which has been popular.
The Northeast is also Subaru heaven. When I went to Vermont in my Subaru I could park anywhere and it would blend in. VTDoT even uses Subarus as fleet cars.

I had a 2006 B9 Tribeca. It was not terrible, But it was definitely slow. It had good road manners but was very thirsty and used premium. I traded it for a 2018 Tiguan

He needs to get educated on the length's of cars. he continues to say things are huge when they are not. 2:31 he says the Tribeca is huge. the 2008 Tribeca is 191" long, which is the same length as a brand new subaru outback, subaru legacy, and many other vehicles such as the 2008 Honda accord coupe, Yes a 2 door sedan is the same length as that tribeca, as well as lots of new 4 door sedans. its a standard mid size vehicle, that they shoved 3 rows into.

I am sorry but even it is most likely for a USA market but it is still Japanese SUV. I don't mean to brag but I am originally from Europe, 5:11, under 200 pounds which still think that I am overweight. I think it has plenty of space but who knows 😅

One of the worst purchases of my life - a Subaru Tribeca. I purchased a 2010 model in 2015. So it had 150,000 kms (kms = Canada and not miles). It's now clocked 260,261 kms. Since last year had to spend almost 5000$ on it's repairs (reactive and protective maintenance) besides gives only 440kms to a tank(60-64 liters) of gas. My model also has a built in DVD player which makes continous humming noise when I turn the ignition on. I have to slam the screen for the humming noice to disappear. Worst SUV in a Japanese clan.
Not to mention their lacklustre/pain jane interiors. Nissan already had a USB interface for music in 2010 but this gas guzzler does not have any of those features.
Will sell this junk away next year and settle for a nice hybrid vehicle - Ford or Kia. Never ever again a Subaru in particular or Japanese model in general.
I am a bit surprised that others still like this white elephant. The video heading is quite apt - A 3-Row SUV That FAILED! 🙂

He missed more than that. And how big do "little kids" have to be to have an issue with the 3rd row seat ? My son loves to use the back seat and really it's for occasional use. Other than it being thirsty, I love my 2012.

Very wrong? This thing has full 4x4, which means three diffs. What's wrong with that? In fact, man has not invented anything better than three diffs for 4x4 to date.
