Suggestion: Throw some ground cover seeds where ever the sun hits (winter wheat, leafy greens like kale, etc) , they will love the food, save you some money, it will attract worms, make them lay more, and the ones you eat will taste great!
Also, you mentioned critters... they LOVE chicken! Add a hot wire to the top of the fence.
    Looks great, best wishes!

That is a nice looking Paddock for your future chickens. It would also double as a park. I have 5 acres but the only trees are the ones that I planted for shade in the 1 acre that I set aside for my Home, Garage and outdoor living area. I wish I had trees all about on the rest of the acreage like you have. It is so beautiful. Thank you for allowing me to view it. I appreciate your videos very much. Art in CA

It is a joy to watch your homestead taking shape. As a fellow Floridian living in rural Florida (since 1984) I have to admit when I see all of those trees and listen to your dream of chickens running around in those paddocks, the first thing I think of is that the trees are great perches for hawks (Red-tailed, Red-shouldered, Cooper's) and Owls, all of which prey on chickens. My little granddaughters lived out on the family property for a while and one day one was horrified when a hawk flew off with her pet rabbit, and another one on another day, her pet duck. We lost our own flock to weasels. A neighbor has been losing his to coyotes, steadily. There are so many chicken predators in Florida, but lots of people do raise chickens. I will be interested to learn your plans for protecting your girls from predators. Probably places for them to run for cover can help during the day and locking them up securely at night. Palmettos abound on our property and could make great cover, but then again, every predator likes to hid in palmettos too. I'll stay tuned. You are doing a great job.

I've heard a Donkey can be really good guardians for your livestock. I've been reading about & considering one because of the raccoons eating my chickens food in plain sight when they are out in the run (at least they are not eating the chickens) We use to have coyotes too eating the food in the run & they also never attacked the girls) I've heard other people getting a donkey & that has solved the issues. I live in Orlando :)

You guys are amazing hard-working people with so much positive attitude.... I live in Putnam County for the last 3 years. I used to live in Connecticut so Florida is very new experience to me weather wise I'm trying to adjust to. I subscribed to your Channel because you are a great motivation for me to be successful with things I like to do such as planting fruit trees and have vegetable and flower garden. So far I am happy with what I achieved by now, I planted over 20 different fruit trees. I'm also happy with my leafy greens such as kale, arugula, radishes and more.. back in Connecticut I used to have some chickens, I was thinking about having few chicken's over here as well but I have serious concerns if they are going to be safe from predators especially those flying above! And this is why I cannot wait to see your chicken coop and all the arrangement you going to have to protect your chickens. My best wishes to you and to your beautiful wife.

Thanks for watching Jess! We love Putnam County too. Keep up the good work on your homestead. Sounds like you are off to a great start👍👍👍. We have had no problems with hawks on our chickens so far. They are around but they just haven’t bothered them. We ha e some videos coming out on how we secured the chicken coop. Hope they help you. We love having chickens. Lots of fantastic tasting eggs and they are fun to raise. A great addition to our homestead❤️

Good morning from Texas! Y’alls hard work shows, and you’ll be greatly rewarded for it. Have you considered livestock guard animals to guard your future flock and herd? We have two Anatolian Shepherds that do great protecting our goats, who are GREAT at clearing underbrush. LGD’s can be trained for protection of overhead predators as well as four, and two legged. 🤠 One of our biggest predators of our chickens was from overhead. However, the tree cover did give them a little bit of a head start to run and hide. Keep up the good work, and look forward to more videos!! 🤗

You've been blessed by the Lord to have all that it looks like at one time somebody has a lot of horses there. I wish to have more land because of a horrible divorce I lost my land and now I have to start all over with the Lord's help and buying more. I live in Florida also and is very hot here. I raise Rhode Island Reds and had wonderful setting hens with lots of little chicks these chickens were so friendly I could call them and they would come running I could pick them up they even laid eggs in my hand Rhode Island Reds are wonderful laying chickens and make great pets and if I had my wish I would I could live way out in the woods way out in the woods away from everybody with my chickens my horses and whatever else I wanted + a wonderful big Garden with the Lord's help maybe I'll have it again but the Lord comes first in my life and whatever he lead me to is where I wish to go. I live in a house in the city and hate living here that's why I watch the shows like yours and have my dream and hope that one day it comes true

Hi. How will you discourage the bears? N larger cats n wild dogs? I'd go electric fencing, maybe a strand or two, a foot inside outer fence n higher than outside fence so people don't get shocked but an animal climbing on top of fence won't go into coop area. I'd hate to see you loose birds after all the hard land clearing. Great job !! Peace to you and yours

We want a chicken coop for our new little homestead but I am very concerned about the coyotes in our area. We have experience building a coop and run that will keep out wild animals but I don’t want the coyotes to be lured into our yard by the chickens. We have a fenced in yard with two small dogs and I am concerned for the dogs safety. ANY SUGGESTIONS. Are you concerned about something getting your chickens? Can’t wait to see your coop, I know it will be awesome. God bless you guys
