My biggest "I love this guy" moment with Joey was when he filled in for Lars with Metallica at Download 2004 and you can just SEE this childlike glee on James' and the other guys faces as they are blown away by his skill. Rest in peace to a beautiful human being. We all love you Joey.~

If you read what Joey says about that show he gives Lars so much respect….actually calls him his God. Just like the Knot and Joey, Metallica wouldn’t be anything without Lars, cuz of his business savvy. Joey said he didn’t even need to rehearse cuz he knew all the parts, so awesome! Rest in power Joey!

    May 2nd, 2000:
Slipknot came to my city of Seattle, WA opening for Coal Chamber, there were 3 bands but I don't remember who opened the show.
The place was a 250 max capacity venue called 'DV8' (Nirvana's first show was played here)
I remember waiting in line with my friends and being incredibly excited. Joey came out the front door, mask and outfit, and yelled "Who's here for Slipknot?", everyone that raised their hand, he went up and handed them a CD. It was a 'Wait and Bleed' single with "Purity" on it I believe, I have since had it stolen from me.
I was blown away, since I had just got their album the year before, was obsessed, and now stoked that I had TWO Slipknot CD's!
When he handed me one, I gave him a high five and said:
"Thank you man, I love you guys so much and your'e the reason I didn't give up on the drums and your'e my favorite drummer in the fucking world!"
he stopped, backed up a bit and cocked his head to the side like a confused dog - he opened his arms, ran towards me and bear hugged me incredibly aggressively and yelled "THAT MEANS SO FUCKING MUCH TO ME DUDE, THANK YOU SO MUCH, NEVER GIVE THAT SHIT UP!", he put his hand on my head and messed up my hair, then he ran towards the back of the line and got rid of the other CD's and disappeared.
I still have the setlist I got from the show, framed and on my wall - here's what they played:
    742617000027
    (sic)
    EYELESS
    WAIT AND BLEED
    NO LIFE
    LIBERATE
    PURITY
    PROSTHETICS
    SPIT IT OUT
    GET THIS
    SURFACING
    SCISSORS
This show changed my entire motherfucking life forever.
I IMMEDIATELY knew that I was going to give my life to music and it's what I was going to do and nothing would stop me. Meeting him and having him say that to me, and then watching him completely fucking destroy the show with energy like I've never fucking seen to this day.
I continue to play drums and I have never stopped listening. He flipped my fucking head upside down.
After that, they started popping up everywhere on MTV and the internet and I got to see, first hand, how fucking honest and incredible they were to their fans, and I inherited that from them as well. I will miss that man for the rest of my life, but he will always live in my heart and in my memories. Rest In Peace Joey.

My favorite memory of Joey is just having to have been blessed and lucky enough to have met him and getting to talk to him face to mask. Super nice guy. Just a real sweethearted dude. It's hard to fathom that he's gone. At least he doesn't have to put up with the medical issues he had anymore and he's with Paul now. Rest In Peace, Joey. He'll always be number 1. Which isn't just a number he wore in Slipknot for a gimmick. To me he was and still is the number 1 drummer of all time so there's no other number that fit him better in my eyes.

He had an illness that prevented him from being a bad ass on the drum set in 2013 … slipknot wanted to tour n make more shit … #1 body would not comply .. so they fired him … yeah it’s fucked

I remember buying some random Joey mask off of the internet for Halloween when I was in the 5th grade and when I took it to school people thought it was a fucking Kiss mask🤦‍♂️😅.

i was 12-13 in 2002 when the Disasterpieces DVD came out. I couldn't find it anywhere, so my mom ordered it for me from Ebay. Slipknot really was my introduction into extreme music.......Before them it was Kiss and Metallica that I listened to the most......That DVD was something that I watched non-stop, it was very special to me. I will never forget seeing Joey play that drumset up in the air......Then I saw him on the RoadRunner United DVD, then came Murderdolls. So sad. RIP. Legend.

My favorite Joey moment is when they appeared on the Howard Stern show and Joey comes out on the shoulders of Shawn like a little kid.

I’m not even a fan of Slipknot to be honest, but the respect I have for them and especially Joey is huge. What an amazing drummer and cool dude.

My favorite Joey memory is the first time seeing the Disasterpieces drum solo. It was so cool I begged for a drum set for Christmas that year. I was all about Joey and Slipknot when I played drums. My drumsticks were Joey's signature pair (both sets), I had his signature snare, and I learned how to play double pedal because of him. He was the fucking GOAT!!! RIP to the legend of legends!

I have 1st met Joey on the All Hope Is Gone Tour during a meet n greet in Phx Az @ Guitar center. Waited 6 hours but so happy he signed my Drum head & when I was denied a photo with him by security I asked him and proudly said "Of course man who told you u cant get a pic with me?" I told him that "That Fucker!" He looks up and says " Why u denying my fans.....they are all my family!" Thank you Joey forever I will cherish that moment and will always be my favorite drummer! R.I.P. #1

Honestly the band wouldn’t be half of what it was without Joey. His words on the band were the finest of all the band members. I’ll never forget when he said “we’ve got something in common with our fans that no one will ever understand” (paraphrase). Rest in power Joey

Day two doesn’t get any easier - I remember the first time I heard joeys drumming on the self titled album back in 1999 - as a kid I grew up listening to Metallica , Guns N’ Roses etc. but at the age around 15 I heard Slipknot and I was blown away how badass the band was and joeys drumming was unlike anything I ever heard. I was instantly sucked in and been a huge fan since - I watched the disaterpieces dvd every night for years and that was one of my favorite moments just watching him destroy it. I remember how you could pick different angles and members to watch - I watched Joey many times and couldn’t get enough.

My favorite Joey memory is 2008, seeing Slipknot for the first time. I was a sophomore in High School and I got to finally see his drum solo. Spinning in the air and turning. I’m grateful to see Paul and Joey 3 times before both their passings. RIP Legend.

My favorite memory of Joey was being hella impressed with his work, his skills and aura, to the point where i drew a big portrait of his bloody iowa mask on my wall during my college days back in 2009. there isn't a single other drummer i watch the performance videos of more than him to this day. will probably honor his memory with a tattoo later on.
