Professor G...... will the expense ratio remain the same? At what point will Schwab increase the expense or when do companies make changes? Thanks
How will this affect the graph? Will it show negative?
My first stock to hit over 100 shares. Which means now I can sell covered calls.
I'm trying to get into this myself
@@gerardmichael8523 yeah, consistency helps. I got too caught up in the number of companies I owned instead of building significant positions.
You better know what you’re doing.
You should have been learning CC on cheap stocks first. Like the $5 - $10 stocks instead of the $80 stocks.
it is obvious that you dont have any experience in covered calls. Schwab ETFs have little to none option volume. Even Vanguard which has 10x the AUM dont have any option volume. They dont even have weekly contracts... Where SPY & QQQ you can sell options DAILY...
@@MiddleClassAmerican you sound like a genius. Maybe you should start a UA-cam channel. That way you can tell everyone how wrong they are 🤷♂️. Maybe you can tell me where to get 20 to 40k so I can afford 100 shares of SPY and QQQ while you’re at it.
Your content is great for those living or able to buy ETF's registered in the US. Unfortunately, those of us in the UK can't. It would be amazing if you made some content on how to find a similar ETF in the UK or Europe to SCHD, VOO or any other ETF you talk about.
Stock split will definitely bring in new investors hence will raise its value. This puts a big smile on my face 👍🏼
Instead of owning a gallon you own 4 quarts now.
@aliasname602 So there is no benefit if you bought it before or after the split? It's not going to change the stocks SCHD holds.
@@tonyherdina9142 When a stock is process of being split. There is speculation on the perception of value before and after the split. Will people pay more or less for 4 quarts versus a gallon? And the trading based on speculation may move the price around. SCHD is an etf with 103 holdings, and each stock is already being traded based on a number of factors,: earnings, consumer data, interest rates etc. I believe the SCHD split will be extremely faint and inconsequential background noise. SCHD is a long term hold, not something to be traded in the short term based on stock splits.
@@tonyherdina9142Exactly. It’s like cutting a pie into more pieces. But if you hold say 25% of the pie you’ll still own 25% just in smaller units stilling coming out to 25%. Hypothetical of course. But hope that makes sense. Makes things more affordable if people buy in whole shares, etc.
They will never brainwash me into the metric system!
@@tonyherdina9142there is no difference except a) there will be three times as many shares out, b) dividends will be divided by 3.
So basically the dividend per share will decrease with the stock split as well correct or no?
Hi Prof G, The video was a little unclear, do you suggest buying more SCHG and SCHD now BEFORE the ETF split or waiting until October 11th and buying AFTER the ETF Split?
It won’t matter much in the long term!
Still don't get why they do it but I'm wondering if it is better to buy now at $85 or wait and buy later at $27? Since I'm buying with $ what's the advantage?
I know you talk a lot about VOO but what do you think about SCHX. The performance is very similar only slightly outperformed by VOO. Would you recommend SCHX. As you have mentioned in this video people are Schwab can't buy fractional shares of VOO. Is it a good option?
Yes SCHX is a great option!
This will help those that like selling covered calls and selling put options on these ETFs…they will need to front less shares or cash value up front to collect premium…interesting 🤔
After the SCHD 3-1 split, will the future dividends be reduced by one third?
Correct yes
Great to know from you on time. Are there any bond ETF recommended in Schwab’s split this time, or other good bonds ETF? Thank you!
Prof G, What will be the dividend for SCHD after the split per share per year?
No one knows that but things should continue as usual with the dividend.
@@Atrus999a guess is base on what it splitting on. On schd, will be 3 for one, so probably the stock price will be 20.33 when said and done, then might be a frenzy to buy and the price will rebound due to that.
@@Atrus999Then why are the existing holders so worried. If it stays unchanged they will make more from dividend right.
Should you buy more now or wait?
@@Dr.3ull The shares are only being split, the price is going to stay the same relative to what you're getting. Getting a $1 dividend on 3 shares is the same as a $3 dividend for 1 share. You're still getting $3 either way. I don't understand what there is to worry about...
I wish we could know Why they are doing this.🤷🏻♀️
Mr G, you’re the man! Appreciate your clear communication and genuine advice. Shoutout from Canada!
And what about the dividend? Will it be decreased in the same proportion of the split?
.02%. You're right
So, should you invest now and have your shares split, or wait til they split and then buy as much as possible?
keep pumping out those financial informational videos Professor G!!!!
How come VOO does not do like 10 for 1 splt to make it.More affordable?
Good question.
@@backspace4353they may
Because you can buy fractional shares. So it doesn’t matter what it costs for a single share. Thats why.
@@MartinD9999by that logic there was no need to split SCHD.I brokerage does not support fractional shares BTW. Not all do.
Voo to pricey go with SPLG
I own SCHD shares and want to buyer more shares. Should I buy now or wait until after the split? Thanks for the info.
I'd like to know the best strategy for this too
It doesn’t matter before or after. You still own the same amount. All the splitting does is make it easier to buy shares. Since the price is cheaper. Value is the same.
It equates to the same, but after Oct. 11 you can get it at a cheaper price.
Wonder if this will pressure vanguard to do a split on their etfs
The only 2 stocks I own are schd and schg, just bought last week. Looking to hold for long term.
Good choices!
ETFs....
I've got some money and would like to Invest in stock market or some advise.
It’s odd that an ETF is doing this, I speculate that with the already low price they are preparing for future volatility/ price action
Do the dividends change after the split as well? Will you earn more at the same rate?
Yes it’ll be split accordingly (so the dividend will be 1/3)
What do you think this will mean for the dividend after the split
eventually the dividend per share will be a lower amount yes corresponding to the lower price of the etf overall, but the percentage (dividend yield) will be the same
Question no one is asking what going to happen to the dividend yield SCHD will it increase because of the stock split?
Because everybody knows the answer.
No change. Shares go 3x, price per share divides by 3, div per share divides by 3. Just like breaking a $20 into 2 $10s. You have more pieces but they come to the same amount.
Pretty cool. Had that happen years ago with 2 fidelity plan old mutual funds. Same price but it’s kinda nice to see your shares split and get more makes you feel more rich but no real dollar change. Good for the moral.
Agreed!
Dividend payout should be the same I believe?
Thank you for this. It has any change on the dividend amount paid? or is the same ~0.75
Same for now
If that div rate stays the same…that would be amazing since we’d have more shares…. And thus more dividend payout… Right?
I'm assuming they would split as well at the next payout.....Like .75 now for 1 I think December would be .25 for 1 or .75 for the 3 that was 1 prior.....make sense??
@@thomasmeagher4801 yes that would definitely make more sense… 😊 I got over-excited 😆
@@Invincible5426stays the same. Example: 3% x $90 = $2.70 dividend.
Split brings the 1x90 to 3x30.
3% x $30 = $.9 x 3 shares of $30 = $2.70.
3% of 1x90 is the same as 3% of 3x30.
Thank you, professor G,
for the keeping us well informed.
Great timing! I just bought 500 shares of SCHD this morning. May buy so more tomorrow.
Awesome!
Can't thank you enough for this heads up as i am a shareholder and had buys in for more. Curious as hell to see how they adjust the dividend going forward.
Happy to help where I can!
Should we buy more right now or wait till after the Split?
So why do those dates make it seem like you are left out in left field if you buy on 10/10?
I wish they had better options liquidity.
Will the dividend payout stay the same amount as is currently per new share amount?
The dividend will be cut in 1/3 just like the price
Do you think future dividends will be 1/3 of the current as well?
Well of course!
Will the dividend payout remain the same or will it be cut in 1/3 as well?
the dividends per share will also drop correspondingly
There is no way it will remain the same. It will drop from the 82 we got in June to 1/3 of that if we are lucky.
@@mikeo7769 I didn’t figure it would but there’s a lot of ppl in here saying they’re going to gobble up a bunch of SCHD before the split and I have no idea why they would. There’s no additional benefit to doing it now vs after the split.
Question: is it best to buy before or after split???
They are both the same
@@mikeyis009 yeah realized after sending - I didn’t matter 😁
First, the fund dividend yield is decreasing from approximately 3.58% to 3.33% so my question is why? After the split will the dividend be divided by three going forward? I'm pretty sure but wanted confirmation.
