Floor did these covers, for her fans, during the Covid lock down....This beautiful Lady, along with Nightwish brought me back to music, I'm 80 years old, and never thought I'd be a metal fan, but when I first heard Nightwish back in 2016 I was hooked....Great reaction from a gorgeous Redhead, my Mom was a Redhead, brings back memories....Bob from NJ

Especially when Floor performs solo, you quickly get the feeling that you are not on the sidelines, but in the middle of the story. She takes every single fan by the hand and puts a warming blanket around her listeners with her voice. You can't learn that - it's a gift.
To belt so flawlessly while sitting in a rocker is absolutely amazing. Thank God she wasn't standing, my heart couldn't take it.
Floor is one of the main reasons I am grateful for my channel. I would have never discovered her otherwise. She is an empath, which is part of the reasons you FEEL when she is on the mic. She feels... you feel. She is a vocal powerhouse, a beautiful human, and it is no surprise she backed by an army who adore her. The further you go on your journey, the more you realize just how special she is. Enjoy the ride!

It's even more extreme live, especially when you're just a few meters away from her. Whether with Nightwish or as a solo artist. She throws emotions into the audience with her singing and the more the audience reacts, the more she throws at you. You can almost physically feel her reaction and emotions to a moving audience. What I find particularly impressive is that you can even feel it in live recordings, you can't learn something like that, you either have it or you don't.
And if you have the opportunity to experience Floor live and think you're prepared for what to expect from all the videos .... no, you're not!
If I had only felt once in church what I felt at Nightwish concerts or Floor solo .... then I would probably be a priest now. That's why I don't think the comparison with a Valkery is sooo wrong. In mythology, Valkyries collect the souls of fallen warriors. To me, everyone is a warrior, especially when they stumble, and Floor/Nightwish have the ability to take you to a better place, at least for a short time. That's why I'm not at all surprised that many people say that Nightwish/Floor helped them a lot in difficult times.
And then Floor is also so damn nice when you meet her in person.

Floor gave us this cover, as well as 7 others, during the lockdown, covering a void that each of us felt then, many of us isolated and alone. She recorded it in her home studio, and the videographer was her husband, Hannes Van Dahl, drummer in the Swedish metal band Sabaton. The piano accompaniment was recorded by the Dutch composer and producer Joost van den Broek, who was her colleague (keyboard player) in her first band, After Forever. By the way, for all the covers recorded at home, Floor called on her colleagues and friends from the metal world for orchestration. For Floor, this chain of covers was a way to keep her voice in shape, as well as to keep in touch with the fans.
After the success of the TV show Beste Zangers, Floor held a series of solo concerts in the Netherlands at the beginning of 2020. The last concert of this tour took place only at the beginning of September 2021 in Amsterdam, in 3 consecutive days, with all the restrictions imposed then. This last concert was professionally recorded and broadcast for free on all major streaming platforms as well as on her YT channel, following a crowdfunding campaign that reached its goal in just a few hours - I'm proud to have participated in this campaign, together with many other fans from all over the world.
I await with great curiosity your next steps in this exploration.

You will see her as a real and normal human being. She seems like a very sweet and down to earth person.

Great reaction once again. When I first got exposed to Nightwish and Floor four years ago I was totally sucked into this music heaven.
I made it my mission to go watch them at least once live. That I did last year. We flew to Gelsinkirchen Germany 🇩🇪 from far off South Africa 🇿🇦 where we watched a FIVE month PREGNANT Floor performing like she was in her twenties. And yes my non metal loving wife just loved the show and actually shed a tear when Floor sang the acoustic version of “Decades in The Sun” with Troy

I found Nightwish and Floor in 2019
If it hasn't already been mentioned: this piano accompaniment is by (Sir) Joost van den Broek, a keyboardist in Floor's first band _After Forever_ and her sometime collaborator in various others such as Arjen Lucassen's _Ayreon Project_ and _Star One_, and Floor's second band _ReVamp_.
The cameraman for these solo 'home videos' is her husband Hannes 'van' Dahl, the current drummer in Swedish band Sabaton.
Great reaction! If you want to hear/see more of her powerful voice while sitting down I can recommend Nightwish's How's the Heart (accoustic version for Planet Rock).
If you want to see her do something different, namely putting a metal twist on an opera aria then watch Vilja Lied from the Beste Zangers show, which was the season's first performance and her introduction to the other musicians.

Behold the power of our Valkyrie Goddess. There's so much more. Here's the thing about Floor and Tuomas Holopainen - they have both called themselves "high sensitives," meaning that they are more deeply attuned to the world and the people around them than most folks. The truth is that they are both empaths - sigma, world-class empaths and rarer still, it's a two way connection for them. Floor in particular has the ability to not only experience all of the passion, sorrow, despair, longing and even anger in every note of every song she sings - she has the ability to transmit that directly to her listeners. Hence the term "Floorgasm" for what most folks experience (and not everyone does - dead souls and all that). Tuomas finally found in Floor the perfect conduit for his poetry and compositional genius.
Most pop music is a dumpster fire of mediocrity at best, no-talent ugliness at worst and you are diminished for ever having listened to it. But then you have ensembles like Nightwish and Epica that are positively transcendental in their ability to connect with their listeners. There are others and you have to look for them. They have stories to tell that will rend your heart and uplift you at the same time.
Oliver Anthony is a similar artist. Is he a musical virtuoso? Not really. Does he have one of those world-class voices? Nope. But he connects with you in a way that most do not and cannot.
You've barely scratched the surface here, Red. And I'm so glad that you have the ability to connect with it. Not everyone does. Your life will be so much the better for it.
By the way, if you want to get another take on Tuomas Holopainen's compositional genius, listen to the second CD from the Human |:| Nature album. It is almost entirely orchestral and it is ravishingly beautiful. It's Tuomas' love letter to the beauty of the natural world.
I also know that at leat Floor (and probably also Tuomas) has absolute hearing AND they are both perfectionists to the bone. Strangely enough at least Floor is not difficult to work with, just very demanding according to the Marcel Fisser band of Beste Zangers show and of Floor's solo career.

This is a "Covid cover" from Floor. She recorded this in her home studio and her husband, Sabaton drummer Hannes filmed this performance. I have seen her singing this song when I saw her for the first time live, when she was still with After Forever, her first band. AF keyboardist Joost Van den Broek made this arrangement and plays the piano in this cover.
Floor and Nightwish got to know eachother when After Forever supported Nightwish in their European tour in 2002. They stayed in touch with eachother. Also when Tarja left the band, Floor stayed in touch with both the band and Tarja.
After Forever disbanded in 2009 and then Floor formed her own band Revamp. Revamp disbanded after Floor was asked to join Nightwish as a full bandmember.
One of the best vocalists of all time covering a cover by one of the greatest vocalists of all time.
I still think "The Greatest Show on Earth" would be right up your alley. It is a long song, but if you watch the live version, it is just like a movie score.

Floor is unique because next to her amazing singing talents she radiates emotions by the tons. There is no escape to that. Add her stage presence to that, her looks, her gestures, and the pleasant person she is, and there you've got it......the Goddess of metal and the absolute best Female Singer in general....

Floor is in a class of his own as a singer, versatile, able to sing everything from growling style to opera. And in every genre, she can sing at a high level. I have never heard of anyone else doing the same and at such a high level of skill.
And yes, that's a nice microphone, and it costs around 6 or 7 thousand dollars! She uses that one because it fits her voice.
I'm a huge Heart fan I grew up in western Canada and was a fan in the 70s and 80s saw them many times.🤘 Ann Wilson is incredible Floor took this song to a different level.🤯 There's very few who can match Ann's vocals but wow this was amazing. Apparently Nancy and Ann Wilson commented that they loved this version which was very classy. Thanks Red Floorgasms are great. 🤟

The results of decades of hard work, sacrifice, training, and dedication to develop this once in a generation talent. And in person one of the nicest, most genuine, smart and humble person you would ever want to meet. Power- One reviewer said she is like a Howitzer that can lob a round 30 miles down range if she wants to, and just easily be soft and sweet.. I suggest the next “Floor” song be ‘Phantom of the Opera’ from the same 2019 Beste Zangers with her childhood hero Henk Port. Talk about goose bumps…. You ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

Think about this: at the time that series was recorded, Floor was know well internationally, but completely UNKNOWN in her home country of the Netherlands. With that, you should react to her performance of Vilja Lied, which is a German opera aria, which she sang for Henk Poort on the first episode. I think you'll completely enjoy that!

You're spot on, that is exactly it, it's like she is singing directly to you. The best news for you is this is a huge rabbit hole. I think something like Storytime or Ever Dream would be a good next song to go to for Nightwish to ease you in. You'll really like the Storytime lyrics too. Floor has said many times that Anneke was big influence on her wish to become a heavy singer. Just about every female Dutch singer has been influenced and inspired by this brilliant singer

Floor's solo work is very powerful in a much more intimate style. I think you will love all of her solo stuff, both her lockdown covers for all of her fans, and her recent solo record 'Paragon". Well done! 👩🦰
I think I heard her say in one of her Master Class videos that sitting down doesn't really affect her singing. Of course you can see she is sitting straight up when she is singing, which helps minimize the compression of the diaphragm. She sings sitting on a stool in many of her solo performances as well as the acoustic version of "How's the Heart" mentioned by other. Frankly, for this cover of Alone, she doesn't _need_ whatever extra air she might get into her lungs by standing up. Regarding her being back from the mic: That is not a normal run-of-the-mill mic. It costs around $6,000 and is the result of her search for a mic for her home studio that best captures her voice. I have seen her be varying distances from that mic, depending on the song.

Hi! I’m glad you covered this one - it’s one of the performances that gives you a true sense of The Goddess’s power. As you noted, *sitting down* . Another great one to listen to and watch would be from a Nightwish acoustic session. It’s just her and Troy (the pipes, etc. player), performing an “unplugged” version of How’s The Heart. When she unleashes the power there it’s almost frightening! Whether or not you react is up to you, but definitely watch it!

Check out Floor doing, Frozen ( yes the Disney Song). Couldn’t stand that song because of the grandkids constantly singing and replaying the movie over and over. Many of my friends who have children and grandchildren also could not stand that song. Floor singing it she brought a real emotional message and I love her version. Also check out on Besta Zangers her performance with Henk Porte of Phantom of the Opera. She could sing the menu of my favorite diner and this very old metal rock biker dude would be crying in my fries.Floor can take any song any genre and make it her own. A rumor says that Ann Wilson heard After forever at their tour in the US 2007. In a radio interview ( 2007 Denver) she said she heard a band from the Netherlands singing Alone and that she was blown away. I don't know if it's the truth, but it would'nt surprise anyone😂
I feel you redheadedneighbour! This is one of the most powerful and most beautyful female voices in the world right now. It's kind of addictive, you can't get enough of it, or at least I can't. I discovered Floor's immaculate voice back in 2002, when she was the leadsinger of the Dutch symphonic metal band After Forever. Already then I knew "This is one to keep track of", and I tell ya, I'm so glad I did!

Her voice is phenomenal, and she is such a lovely person she seems to feel each song and makes her audience feel it to.
I often think the universe is a shite sandwich that we are all forced to take a bite of. Life is hard, people suck, and the universe seems to work against you more often than not. even this little blue marble we call home, what we consider a safe haven in the vast, deadly wilderness of space, has killed 99% of all species to ever have lived. But in this dark, dangerous, and sometimes evil life... magic happens.
A beam of light shines through the darkness, the impossible crosses paths with the improbable and becomes a reality, and I believe that's what's happening with Floor and Nightwish. NW was great w/ Tarja... and Floor was great with After Forever, but when Tuomas invited Floor to join them on tour and eventually had her join as the permanent lead vocalist for Nightwish... something cosmic happened. Something that likely should have never been possible... something that took hundreds of other actions and descisions to become a reality- did. Everything aligned just so. Tuomas is one of the great story writers in music... period. Whether he's joyous in love and wonder, or deep in dispair and contemplating suicide, he has a way of putting that to music that is singular. Floor, as you somewhat mentioned here, has a perfect voice for stories... so you take one of the great song/story writers and give him one of the best storytellers... and it's literal magic.
I believe this is why the NW Army is so loyal, so vocal about their band, and why even to this day when a reaction channel pops up and tries NW, we all come out to support and help the newbie along on their NW journey, taking the journey again ourselves through you. I believe Tuomas and Floor save lives. I really do. You'll see. You're 2 or 3 songs in now, but there's 30 years of magic here to uncover... :)

Crazy thing about this performance is Floor is sitting down where he diaphragm is compressed and cannot use full breath control. Floor is not human. She's a Valkyrie from Asgard.

All of the Nightwish musicians have side projects so you have several very interesting rabbitholes to dive down. That's especially true of Tuomas and Marko. I like the idea of you looking at Romanticide, from Wacken 2013. It will give you the beginnings of an indication of just how versiatile Nightwish is.

By the way, not that you need to react to it, but you would really enjoy watching the documentary "Learn the Setlist in 48 Hours". This is about the circumstances that caused Nightwish to call Floor after firing their previous female lead vocalist, Annette Olzon, in the midst of their world tour. It is stunning how this woman came into this band, flying from Europe to link up with them in Seatle in the midst of so much turmoil (and having to learn the entire Nightwish concert setlist in 48 hours before her first show with them). Fun and emotional stuff. Anyway, thank you for this.

This lady has so many facets of singing at her disposal. She can growl as in Yours is an Empty Hope with Nightwish, yes she growls in a very deep register. Her version of Ghost Love Score at Wacken in 2013 with Nightwish showcasing a few of her facets as well. With Floor you have entered a rabbit hole. Enjoy your journey.

If you want a far left field Floor, watch Beste Zangers " Que Si Siente" , basically a latin beat song ( with heavy Floor overtones). In Spanish, a language she doesn't speak. The original songwriter /performer of the song nearly has his head explode.
These covers with just the vocalist and a piano are fantastic. Floor is amazing. If we could get her and Morgan James to do a duet with either Scott Bradley (Mr. Post Modern Jukebox) on piano or Doug Wamble (Morgan's husband) on guitar, it'd melt the Internet.

Hmm, you wrote the name wrong, it is Floor Jansen (pronounced Yahnsun). I love her belting in this song, it is more of a tribute to Ann Wilson of Heart, that covered this song many decades ago. Great that Floor used the downtime during covid pandemic to record songs in her home studio and placed them on UA-cam, helped by some amazing artists and Hannes holding the camera - he has talent!
