I'm a Nigerian living in the US and I'm so so ashamed of Professor Akinyemi's eurocentric outbursts against South Africa's independent sovereign geopolitical decision as a nation. Has he ever heard of BRICS of which SA is a full fledged member? Is he not aware Russia's in African decolonization struggles against the West? Akinyemi' is one of the elites in Africa who sold Africa to and tied her to the apron string of the West. To hell with Prof Akinyemi and his traitorous likes in Africa.

Dude, I'm a South African in South Africa.
My 1st question is if you have a problem with Eurocentric views, why are you not in Africa to enjoy your Afrocentric views?
Your type of thinking will destroy Africa.
Now, BRICS is an economic entity, also I agree with Proff, we are being more bricks than those brick at no benefit.
China is in bad terms with US and wants to bring factories in .... We should be asking them to bring those factories in SA as we clearly are not able to start our own.
That matters more than nonsense bricks.
Desire to look big will not benefit us.
Our government is not speaking for us on this matter.

As much as I agree with you on Nigeria being unfocused but South Africa should first consider the geopolitical consequences for Africa as a whole before they take such a step, no country is an island. It's the usual egocentrism that is costing Africa dearly today. I don't think it's jealousy. As a Nigerian, I can tell you that I welcome any opportunity for ANY decent African country to fly the flag of African pride, dignity, and self-reliance.
Nigeria is turning out to be a lost opportunity for the black race and I fear that South Africa is heading the Nigerian way, too, with its widespread and rampant corruption. A country that is still fresh from escaping the grip of a racist apartheid should not be rolling out the red carpet to receive foreign and non-black nations who think of you as glorified gorillas.
The old USSR which was friends with anti-apartheid fighters no longer exists. Today, we have just Putin's Russia left flying the flag for the old USSR and Putin's Russia is now the bastion of White Supremacy, so much so that neo-Nazis in the West now look up to Russia to help them fight the liberals in their various nations.
Putin's connection to the neo-Nazi mercenary group, WAGNER, is well documented. His support for far right extremists is also well documented, if you care about facts. Believe me, the best advice for South Africa would be to stay non-aligned and pragmatic in its diplomacy. Nigeria, as far as I'm concerned, has lost the plot. It is now just a mere geographical expression. I would lose all hope in our ability to look after ourselves, as Black people, if South Africa goes the Nigerian way.

South Africa is a sovereign state. Afrikans have a tendency undermining each other, Nigeria decided to allow on its own to have Americans AfriCom. Who chose Nigeria as the leader of the Africans. I've listened to him continuously mentioning Obasanjo who sold out Africans in South Africans as part of Eminent group to South Africa in the late 80s. Africans are watching with interest. This war in Ukraine has nothing to do with Africa per se, Americans have been bombing who they like doing exercises with South Africa. Now today Russia is bombing a European country Africans must choose their friends. US neo colonialists countries are shrinking especially in Afrika. This war is not about Ukraine, it seem Americans are fighting to maintain their superiority in the world. Prof watch the space another US military exercise would happen in the African soil.

This man seems to be confusing South African out look in their foreign policy with that of Nigeria with its defective foundation. Forgetting that the absurd foundation of Nigeria rendered it to depend on the whims of the West to survive because it lacks the consent of the people to be together. This is not the same with South Africa. As their own foundation after apartheid is strongly resting on the self-determination of the people. So South Africa foreign policy toward Russia and BRICS is in line with the collective determination of their people. Based on that, they are not beholding to the West like Nigeria. Akinyemi should respect the fact that South Africa is a formidable entity unlike British-Nigeria. South Africa's defacto superior position in Africa, rendered them not to be viewed like other countries in Africa which are mere outpost of NATO if not their slave plantations. Therefore, Akinyemi should stop all the rhetorics because South Africans are far ahead as the de facto giant of Africa.

A composite country,I don't recall them fighting for independence but intellectualizing on how it should be. Best that we do not look to Nigeria for leadership unless it is leadership in religion.
My impression though is that the much vaunted solidity of S. Africa is a mirage. There is that European percentage of it's population, that in any discussion would lean to the west; the ethnic groups are not united and we see emerging a privilege section of the indigenous population that somehow seems disconnected. S. Africa seems ready for a social/economic reform before it can say it's the true leader but it's no Nigeria either.

Without a shadow of a doubt, South Africa is the leader on the African continent, hence its prominence on the international stage. The fact remains the West has not been of any benefit to the African Continent. My question to Prof stating SA is inviting trouble and 'punching above its weight' is untrue. Explain why Anthony Blinken visited SA with effectively have of the foreign office in tow if SA was not a key/strategic global player. My take, Nigeria is on the wrong side. Saudi Arabia, and Argentina have recently applied to join BRICS. That should tell you the tide is turning and the West know this. The African nations ditching the west are 'on to something'. It is worth noting, the US has a massive military base in an African Island that Madagascar are in negotiations with France (France loaned the Island to the US) to wrestle back. The one thing I do agree with Prof is the inability of our Navy to defend our international waters from unethical and illegal fishing by not just the Japanese and Chinese, but also the Europeans too.

Is the professor suggesting that other African countries should consult Nigeria for their national interests. What conflict is the professor banging on about? The more he speaks the more ignorant he sounds about current global geopolitics. He's stuck somewhere in history that didn't happen. He's confusing his failed ambitions with the development plans of other countries. African Union is well briefed about South Africa's programmes within BRICS. By the way South Africa held military drills with the US just this past year. I didn't hear him complaint. There is a valid reason why Brazil and India are not part of the drills. Why does it bother him as a non member representative? The professor is tainting Nigeria's diplomatic reputation by making strong statements based on his confused history of World politics. Why does he want Nigeria to worry itself about Southern Atlantic when it lies north of the equator? The other gentleman in Suit is completely ignorant about everything. I see people who would bend backwards for the West and have a problem with the alternative. I have never ever heard South Africans having a passionate discussion on TV about Nigerian national plans and interests without Nigerian representation. Its shocking to say the least.

I don't think South Africa should be criticized for taking part in a naval exercise among more powerful countries. It's significant that South Africa has chosen to leave the colonial era behind, and act like developed country. I think this is a good move, because South Africa, and Africa as a whole, needs to have powerful friends in order to guarantee it's future independence.
Additionally, South Africa, and Africa as a whole, must embark on a process of importing technology from more developed countries in the world. Both China and India are ideal targets for such an endeavour. Ideally, all three (3) nations taking part in the military exercises are within the Indian ocean region.
For the above reasons, and more, I highly commend the South African Government for it's forward looking vision exihibited by its participation in such kind of maneuvers with more powerful regional countries. I think that, in the future, Africa must make choices consistent with preventing it's recolonization anytime in the future. The fact of the matter is that in the event of World War 3 no country or region will be spared. So, once again, I commend South Africa for its wisdom in choosing it's friends and direction early, and be on the Frontline.

What is even sad is that, this is a typical Nigerian, majority think this way and Nigeria is the least Pan African nation in Africa, even Egypt and Algeria are better. What i have realized with Nigerians is that, they focus more on other black nations and that is usually their thereat and who they live to compete with. This professor was not logical only because is South Africa which is making this moves, not because is wrong but because Nigeria is not part of this revolution. He will criticize SA instead of looking at the bigger picture because for him, he cares about competing with SA more than kicking the tyrant out of Africa

The so called professor is filled with envy, senseless pride that Nigerians always have with other African countries, they think they better while their nationals are running all over the world.
Atlantic South is conflict free coz SA is protecting it all the way to Prince Edward, oil exploration has been burned which is what causes conflicts. Now that SA choose who to be in bed with is a conflict? which we have been doing this for years, They envy anything that SA does, Nigerian army is so week that boko harama is dancing everywhere but they think they can protect SA coastal lines? They also hate the fact that we are in BRICS and we never said were are superpower but they have claimed that many times, Russia China SA alliance will be stronger even the Brazil he brags about its part of our alliance.
Nigeria don't even have a single submarine, so how are they going to protect South Atlantic.

I have been pondering 🤔 over this ghastly stockholm syndrome bedeviling Nigerian politicians showing their appalling low esteem. On Dr Damages channel I was verbally attacked when I brought up this shameless protocol by Nigerian politicians. We have a very long way to go in that country called Nigeria.

This man says Nigeria, Angola and Brazil were not consulted, yet Angola and Brazil are not on the airwaves complaining, only Nigeria is. You see this shows you that Nigeria is not yet Africa's big brother otherwise South Africa would have run to Abuja to ask for advice.
