Allie Lungstrom The roses held up exceptionally well and so did some of the smaller flowers! although I keep them in a decorative box because I have a swamp cooler and the swamp cooler had a bad effect on the flowers

So sorry you've lost your Mom. This video made me cry. I still have my mom, but I so often think about how will I ever live without her. I'm 42 years old and have always thought my Mom was the bomb! She is truly my best friend. I cannot not imagine your pain and don't even think its possible. As bad as it hurts to just think about mine being gone, I know that will never compare to how bad it really hurts. God Bless You. I'm def. keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. The video was just beautiful!

    TIP!!!!
fast dip is correct as heat causes wilt, cooling your plants first helps too, but don't freeze!
dry your flowers upright with water and soda bottles, or any container the plant can't fall into. rubber bands criss crossed around a box works well. the wax is heavy and can team up with wilt to pull the petals closed,.
hanging Upside down for drying flowers helps keep petals from breaking off, but waxing eliminates that problem.
placing upright helps preserve the original shape, plus you can nudge odd petals and shy leaves into perfect formation as it dries fairly fast.
for super delicates, brush the wax on with a soft paintbrush or Qtip,
l soy wax melts well in the microwave, 2 minute intervals, stir between, till liquid, let it cool as much as possible while keeping it runny to avoid wilt, dip FAST! then add layers as desired.
add drops of wax to mimic dew, or use was as glue to attach little embellishments

Race Smith you can dip in granulated sugar for a frosted tip, esp nice with daffodils , snow drops and blue bells, crocus and most winter/spring flowers and gives a very delicate shimmer .

Hi Kelly. I've enjoyed watching many of your videos as a new subscriber. I just came across this one and along with everyone else, I'm so sorry for the loss of your mom. It is a testimony to your love of her and the character she instilled in you, for you to do this in her honor and help many people who have wondered what to do with all the beautiful flowers afterwards. When you spoke of things she would say if she was seeing you do this, was simply precious. And lastly I'd like to say that you have this to watch and remember those sweet thoughts as time does fade memories and now you have these preserved, just like the beautiful flowers. May your heart find peace with the knowledge that one day you will see her again. God bless sweet lady.

I was just curious how to dip flowers because I love them so much but this video broke my heart. my mom is still with us and we thank God almighty every day. She has always been a wonderful mother to us (five children) and such a devoted wife to our father, her husband of 48 years. she is 65 and has some serious health issues so I worry about her.
Your mother was not only a stunningly handsome woman, it seems that she was also a beautiful person inside and out. i can see the love you all had for her and she for you all; her children, grandchildren, etc. It's apparent that you miss her a lot but she's truly in a better place. Not just a cliche, I really believe that!

I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a parent is one of the most difficult and painful experiences to go through. My dad was a professional musician. When he passed away, my mother and I made a life sized replica of his Fender Strat (Electric Guitar) for his casket spray. We made it out of white tear drop roses (they literally had tear drops on them)with white glittered doves for the tuning pegs. Underneath I had attached a lace gauzey type white sheer material that covered the coffin and hand stitched matching baby roses and matching doves as trim on the material. That was in 2005. We preserved the entire spray in a shadow box and it is one of the most beautiful floral creations I have ever seen and it is as perfect today as it was 10+years ago. It means a lot to our family and I know that whatever you decide to do you will cherish it for many years to come. Again, I'm truly sorry that your mom was taken from you so soon.

Kelly, I was moved to tears listening to the heartache in your voice as you spoke throughout this video. I too, lost my mom in October 2015. She had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer that was inoperable 4 months previously. It was like a lightening bolt hit me. Completely unexpected. She was the strongest person I've ever known and like you and your mom we shared a love of crafting and would shop together until we dropped. I found myself in the same place as you with the array of beautiful flowers. My mom was buried along side her husband in a Nat'l Cemetery and they only allow you to take 2 arrangements to the cemetery. As soon as they become unsightly they are immediately removed and discarded. Even though it was mid October, it was hot here in NW Florida that day so I chose to only leave 4 yellow roses from the casket blanket, representing my siblings and me. I just knew I couldn't bring myself to throw all those beautiful flowers away. My heart just wouldn't allow it for some unknown reason. So I placed a large towel on my counter, a lot of those dessicant packets (that I save to pack up with my Christmas decorations) and as the petals would begin to wilt I'd pull them off, lie them on the towel and fluff them everytime I'd walk by. It took awhile but that was alright. I had a momentary mission in the midst of being a bit lost. Once they were all dried and I could move them I still didn't know what I was going to do with the petals. Then about 2 weeks before Christmas I walked past my craft desk and spotted a round clear acrylic DIY ornament I had bought but hadn't done anything with yet and immediately a light went off. Even though the ornament was acrylic it wasn't cheap looking at all. In fact, it looks like glass and after giving it more thought, I preferred the acrylic over the glass and that way if any of the recipients dropped theirs I wasn't so afraid of losing the memory because of broken glass. I was able to make a large ornament for myself, each of my siblings and 1 for each of the grandchildren. I then created a design with my cricut explore that said "Mother" 1935 - 2015 with a small yellow rose attached (Mom's favorite flower) and cut it out of vinyl and applied it to the ornaments. For the grandchildren, theirs had the same design but instead of "Mother", theirs read "Nana". I felt inspired by my Mom and like you, felt quite comfortable knowing it was something she would've loved. I have it out everyday along side her photo. I later actually found the same idea on pinterest so I suppose it wasn't my idea first but that doesn't matter. :) I feel like Mom inspired me to do it. I'm so pleased with how it turned out and my siblings and the grandchildren all loved their ornaments. My Mom did her pre-arrangements in 2000 after she recovered from stage 4 colon cancer so she actually chose and paid for her casket blanket. Every single petal of every single flower in that blanket is a gift from her and now we all share in that memory. She is always with me and I miss her everyday. She lived right next door to me and I know we'll see each other again at a time of God's choosing. I would love to send you a photo of the ornament or somehow be able to share it here. Also, I have a home based cake decorating business and the afternoon my mom passed away I had to come home a bake a cake for an order the following day. I think it may have been a good thing for me. Something to break up the steady stream of tears for a brief time. But as I put on Mom's grave marker, "Our tears will help us heal". I hope you are doing well and that you've begun to heal. It is a slow process but that's ok, too. I am so sorry for your loss and the loss your family obviously is experiencing. She had to leave you too soon.

I am going to try growing roses here in Michigan. I have ordered 10 roses from Oregon, for delivery in May. I watched the video to look for ideas for preservation. We recently bought our dream home, kind of hobby farm, in the woods, on 16 1/2 acres. Our parents are all gone, and 2 out of 3 kids are out of state. I need something to fuss over, and every garden needs roses! When we moved, I found a stack of old phone books with small blossoms, and leaves pressed in between. Someday, I will make art with them. Also, buying apples and cider today made me weep for my mom. You are a beautiful daughter.

honey I wanted to tell you something about flowers and wax that you may not know. In the early nineteen-hundreds it was very fashionable very Vogue 2 have flowers and wax Garland's or headpieces for your wedding. this was very popular in the twenties and even the thirties and as some women wore them without avail and the 20th to show off their body or for a very very beautiful fashionable look or on top of avail and how wonderful is that that on such a special day that you would not have to worry about you're beautiful arrangement going bad or how to preserve it. so this is very normal because the wedding is very important occasion and so is a passing and that's a really beautiful thing you do and your mother would be proud. thanks for showing me this video and I hope you know that is much cooler 2 of wax flowers that keep the piece of cake in your freezer and eat it 50 years later. I like the wax better as far as being old-fashioned. big thumbs up to you and your mom

Thanks so much for this video! I’m very sorry for your loss. I lost my mother when I was just 15 years old, so I completely understand your pain. I recently celebrated another birthday, and my sister, nieces, and nephew surprised me with a beautiful flower arrangement!💐 Your video has inspired me to do everything I can to save the memory. My grandmother had a flower arrangement for over 50 years that were dipped in wax. We dusted them with a small paint brush. I remember the tulips most in the arrangement.
Hers had multiple layers of wax on them. Maybe I'd you dip two times they'll hold longer?
Lovely photos of mom. So sorry for your loss. I miss my mom every day. Especially when it comes to flower planting time. You would always pick her flowers out together.

Thank you so much for this wonderful video! I just lost my grandmother this passed Sunday and we had a ton of flower arrangements and I am trying to find ideas on how to preserve them and after watching this video I am so excited to try this and see if it works!! I'm just really concerned about it they are going to last.... how have your flowers looked since you dipped them in wax?

Heather Dannels So this was my problem, we have a swamp cooler that we mostly use in my house as apposed to the central air here in the summer and I'm almost positive it had an affect on the way they held up because I also tried pressing some of the flowers and had them pressing in the house in the flower press and they came out horribly!!!! And they had been in the press for 45 days!!!! Some of the flowers I dipped in wax held up and some didn't :( I'm glad I used 3 different methods because the flowers that I dried (in my garage) came out beautifully and I also dried some to use in beads...(I just made a video for the beads and they came out Beautifully) I'm Making bracelets and rosaries or I might even just put them in a glass container... I also tried pressing them in between wax paper some of the smaller filler flowers and those came out nicely and held up!! Hope I was of some help to u..... Hugs and prayers to u on this difficult day!

First, Bless Your Heart! This video is so ironically bittersweet for me. In my search for ways to preserve flowers from my daughter's wedding, I happened across this one. My mother, from whom my craftiness skills originated, passed away in November of 2015. My heart goes out to you...there is no way I could tutor anything that involves my mother now, a year & a half later, let alone as quickly as you did this one. You are a very strong young woman & I applaud your courage! So through my efforts of healing & learning to move on, my newest distraction is preparing for, making the majority of the decorations & learning better ways to preserve the fresh flowers (I have always pressed or dried them before) for her upcoming wedding...a joyous occasion!! All the while making wonderful long-lasting memories with my own dear, beautiful daughter. Thank you for sharing such a personal experience.

Its been 2 years and I have yet to smile at our memories together, My eyes still fill with tears because I miss her so terribly! My efforts of healing is how UA-cam really came about, Something to keep me busy keep my mind busy! when she first passed i use to say that i needed to get use to my new normal :-( It's true!!! She was my best Friend! I am sorry to hear you lost your mom, That makes my heart hurt for you.... I don't wish that feeling of losing a parent on anyone!!!! Hugs to you *** Kelly

Thank you so much for being so candid in your video. I know how it must have been "Bitter-Sweet" to make. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family. I'm sure the feeling must still be quite new. I lost my mother, (Two time breast cancer survivor, third time she was too tired to "fight" and she felt she was ready to "go home".), a year and a half ago and I still miss her every day. You will miss your mother too. But the tears will turn into smiling through the tears and her memory will live in your heart forever. You mother seemed like a beautiful woman. Thank you again for sharing such an intimate emotional processing with the world. Again, many blessings to you and yours.

My mom made the request that we all have a rose bush in her honor. I'm waiting for the first bloom on my rose bush so I can preserve it. This will help for the future! thank you so much!
