  • On June 18, 2024 in Cocoa Beach I was out with the Rotary Club's kisby ring patrol when we were stopped by a group of people forming two lines from the dunes to the ocean. When we asked, they said that some sea turtles were hatching. It turns out that they were Kemp's ridley sea turtles - the smallest species and also the most endangered sea turtles.
Without touching them or in any way interfering with their progress, the volunteers made sure that no predators caught any while they were on the beach. They have a 20 mile swim to the relative safety of the sorghum fields.
