If I remember correctly, The Loch Ness monster didn't start to "become" a plesiosaur until after the original The Lost World film came out. Seems like a similar sort of thing happened with the Yowie, with Bigfoot mania turning any legendary, hairy biped into a Bigfoot clone.

That’s exactly right. Beliefs concerning water horses that were thought to dwell in lakes existed for hundreds of years in Scotland, with these ideas shifting to a more ‘scientific’ interpretation of living plesiosaurs in the early 20th century.

King Kong mighta also contributed as it had the infamous Brontosaurus scene (which a general audience might mix up with a plesiosaur due to aquatic habits in the movie) and came out in 1933 right when a spike in sightings happened.

I do not mean to attack you or your beliefs but I want to be clear here.
You are unaware of key pieces of history regarding this topic. I think making comments with an attitude of scientific pondering when you are spreading more misinformation is harmful.
The first mainstream public exposure to the Sasquatch phenomenon started long before "Bigfoot mania" created by a few hoaxers with wooden feet but some stories of California road construction crews seem genuine, Jerry Crew who was a road worker who was one of the first to create casts of the being's footprint. Then the PG film really got the ball rolling.
All of this started with climbers going to places like the Himalayan mountains and seeing footprints and sometimes seeing yetis on nearby mountains. They referred to them as "abdominal snowmen" at the time and that's what they were commonly called before the term Bigfoot was coined. Other times they are "Hairy men" "Wild men" "Hairy giants" or various tribe language names for them like sabe and so on.
It kinda seems like your knowledge of this is surface level at best. And you and people who go out of their way to overanalyze until it's mush kinda like saying any word over and over until it makes no sense to you and are being very close minded and unscientific.
You are helping reinforce the echo chamber behavior.

    I'm an ecologist in Australia.
I quite like the idea that some of these indigenous stories were inspired by animals like Procoptodon and other large Stenurines. With a bipedal walking gate, long arms with hooked claws, and a flat, ape reminiscent face, they fit the bill to an extent.
Not that I believe they persisted into the Holocene, but they may have persisted in the folklore of indigenous peoples long after their extinction.
Its also possible that animals like Thylacoleo became blurred with, and woven into these mythical chimeras, that took on spiritual and anthropomorphic characteristics over the millenia, as the real animals they once represented were slowly forgotten.
Also Taree is pronounced Taah- rhee 😜

The exact same thing is said about guatemalan *Sisimite,* which is a tropical man-beast. Which is very confusing, but the mayan folklore insist on the backward feet anyway. Which is biologically imposible. I have two possible explanations:
1️⃣ The mayas perceive the feet as non-human, maybe the Sisimite can twist their feet like chimps and orangutans do. Prensile feet?
2️⃣ The creature has normal feet, but the legend has an advice: _Do not follow the tracks of that creature._ 👣
The tracks will take you deep into the jungle, so imagine thee creature has backward feet _and take the opposite direction._

Dunk on the Aboriginal people of Australia because it's enabled in today's world but if defending them got you internet points you'd pivot to that not because you have morals but because we are taught to seek attention.
Yeah, some of their words (Not just one language, there are many Aboriginal languages and cultures.) don't sound that close to English words and styles but they did and do things we living in cushy comfort couldn't even dream of. The fact they are still around despite getting wrongly destroyed by people who wanted to move in for free and take all their resources is a testament to their ability to survive even when fellow humans become their biggest enemy.
Australia wouldn't be Australia without the help of the Aboriginal people shaping the ecosystem for well over +10,000 years.

    Hey Dr. Polaris,
I enjoy the work you put into your videos though using Donkey Kong music was a bit Tone-deaf but this wasn't the worst video that could've been done on the Yowie or a Sasquatch type being. We need to be careful about how we depict these "legendary" beings or how we approach these discussions. I'm aware people may not say anything or they could ridicule me but I'd rather be true to myself.
I think certain aspects of Aboriginal dream time have bits of exaggeration but I don't think it's done to lie or anything bad (I willingly admit I am no dream time expert). Sometimes in an oral tradition or even an intentionally fictional story needs moments of on-the-nose depictions or imagery to make sure certain parts get understood as intended by using emphasis.
There are certain people with influence who want us to either be at each other's throats or believe some kind of hokey "Undiscovered ape" theory and postulate about Gigantopithecus, which does not seem like any kind of answer at all to the Sasquatch phenomenon. We need much more fossils from that species to make any kind of real guesses and they were more like a giant orangutan and could have possibly just been more of a quadruped than a biped.
To be as simple as possible, though oversimplification can be bad, they are a wild people that systems of authority do not like but they cannot get rid of easily. I'm not going to get into the more "out there" aspects of these people but to stay as close to science as possible I will say that they are very good at working with an ecosystem so it does not get depleted and they get less detected. There's much more food in America at least than people really consider. Examples such as deer, berries, leaves, tubers, and so on they can eat quite a lot of different foods and they are incredibly robust people.
You may say though: Why would they waste time lying about the existence of people like that? Think about how much money you save by paying a few or just one person to start a misinformation campaign compered to trying to census a secretive wild people who do not trust humans usually and because of that they survived when the Neanderthals got phased out.
I know there's a lot of hoaxes and dumb garbage related to many types of this stuff. We must understand not every cryptid is equal. Part of the misinformation campaign is to compare "bigfoot" to things that are much more silly to make both look dumb so people don't bother actually trying to learn.(Using the terminology "bigfoot" is kinda similar to saying "Red Skin", in my opinion it's a bit of a bad term that we need to get away from.)
Reading/listening to encounter stories can be boring or sometimes the person in question is fibbing till the cows come home. But after a while you key into certain details that strike you as odd that it can be so consistent, especially when finding less hoax tainted information can be very difficult especially on today's internet.
Examples like: People who get a good look at a Sasquatch person usually say their nose is a human type nose (This goes against the common "Ape hypothesis" that places like the b-f-r-o love to say but they do not seem they have honest intentions.), how they are basically like gymnastics stars when younger or just a smaller individual (Some of this has been recorded. People say it's an "escaped pet chimp" or something but chimps are incredibly loud and make all different kinds of noises so it seems like people are using Occam's razor to rhetoric it to the point of nothingness.), certain interactions with humans that easily demonstrates they are at our thinking level if not higher. (Gift giving, house slapping, they watch us like television, they have a language that's been looked at by real former military language experts.)
They want us to argue and ridicule each other. I do not want you to believe everything I say. Please do your own research on this and take what I say with a grain of salt. Some of this stuff legitimately doesn't add up and as the years go on we cannot afford to keep ignoring what's in front of us.

Ok I'll admit that I don't know the particulars of the Yowie since I don't live in AUS but I have talked to native americans in America and Canada about what they think the so called Bigfoot is. Though there is definitely a paranormal aspect to the phenomenon most seem to agree it's actual a physical being. Due the sheer amount of reported sightings of it North America alone it cannot be dismissed outright as mere myth. Especially since the vast majority skeptics and scientific skeptics don't spend half as much time outdoors as rural people, native americans, or aboriginals in AUS with the Yowie. To outright reject the possibly of commonly sighted creature, then never attempt anything even close to what Jane Goodall or Robert von Beringe did to disprove that notion, seems like the height of hubris and closemindedness. At least interview people and spend some time in the wilderness studying it supposed habitat before you say "NO" without a doubt.

Hey Dr.Polaris, right after the evolution and the history of the Andrewsarchus, why don't you think about making a suggestion and creating a UA-cam Videos that's all about the evolution of and the history of the Prehistoric Marine Reptiles called the Plesiosauria, (Plesiosaurs, Pliosaurs, And Polycotylus) in the next couple of weeks to think about that one coming up next?!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍👍👍👍👍

I don't know what they are, but they nonetheless don't care, and just keep on being very, very real.

The most likely origin for the creature, if it does originate from Aboriginal myth, is either the short-faced kangaroo or the Thylacoleo carnifex, the marsupial lion. Thylacoleo could likely tripod up on its hind legs and tail much like a kangaroo does, because they also possessed chevrons running along the bottom of the tail bones just like kangaroos do. And the short-faced kangaroo walks on its hind legs similarly to the way humans do, rather than hoping.

My favourite version is the Dulagal. It stalks Mount Gulaga, had red eyes and walks sideways. Much more believable than the generic ape-like Yowies

Pretty disengenuous summation really. I liked the start when you got in to the historical reports, but then you just straight up copied a whole chunk of this word for word from Skeptoid, which is a horrible 'debunk' of the topic with such minimal actual research done. You then added a little bit about Tim the Yowie Man for some reason, just some guy who had a sighting in the 90's. If you did that little bit more research to discover him then I gotta wonder why you chose him and why not mention a single word about Dean Harrison, Tony Healy or Paul Cropper? Why does nobody ever talk about Dean or his Australia Yowie Research group when debunking this topic? Search on UA-cam or Google for 2 minutes on the topic and you will find them, they are the most prominent and substantial resource there is on the topic, so it has to be a deliberate choice.

Quite Right ! Difficult to sort out as to why AYR youtube does not have many more hits . I understand that smirking , dismissive normies will never put their minds around this topic , but it's a pity AYR lacks the clout of Sasquatch Chronicles as AYR has the most articulate and credible witness interviews by far .

TOO ALL THE PEOPLE IN THE COMMENTS SAYING THAT AUSTRALIA DOESN'T HAVE A WILDMAN YOUR WRONG,
I've seen a yowie or hairy man twice now once back in 96 while camping at the never never state forest 3 of us seen it,
it came up to our car at night at about 2 am after midnight me my brother an mother all seen it
Second time was gem fossicking in deep bush at ebor nsw,
we had just Finished fossicking for the day an the sun was setting in the western sky and i got out of the creek an told my brother i got to piss,
Dropped my wadder's an was piss'n an looked to my right an seen it leening out from beside a clump of stringy bark tree's
I yelled at my brother quick beside the tree an he came over to me an i pointed it out to him an yelled there beside the stringy barks an he seen it too
The only reason we seen it was as the sun was setting the light from the sun was shining on the area beside the tree's it was large,
An its hair was reddy brown colour
An had hair growing out the sides of its neck an its skin was grey
It was just leaning out from beside the stringy bark looking at me an my brother,
me an my brother seen every thing from the waist up
Me an my brother got out of that Bush fast that day an are out of the bush before sun down now

@@7thDesertRat seen two of them now believe what you want but seeing them at close range will open your eyes to the fact that the wild man or hairy man does exist,
The first one me an my brother an mother seen in 96 at the never never was really close it came up to our car
An looked through the window at us it was only about 2 to 3 feet from the vehicle we reversed the car up and got it in the car head lights an got a really good look at it before we drove off terrified
The second time out bush fossicking at ebor it was probably about 60 to 80 feet from me any brother beside the stringy bark tree's,
Honestly me an my brother thought we would never see another one after 96
I dont think they are common an are in low numbers seeing the one at ebor at the start of last year scared me any brother good we actually have only gone back to that spot gem fossicking once since then an we just got an eerie feeling when there
      Like we shouldn't be there
      An eye opener for sure
