- After forgetting to pickup after soccer practice, Bart looks for a new father figure. After learning Bart betrayal Homer decides that he too can abuse the system.
Homer did pretty well against a Navy vet at least 10 years younger than him.
Homer is himself a navy vet lol
@@deltasword1994 That’s true now that I think about it. Although I think he was only in the reserves.
@@Johnsmith99663 That's no way to speak of America's 17th line of defense, between the Mississippi National Guard and the League of Women Voters.
@@pronkb000 the leage of women voters are voting democrats and are therefore backstabbing the nation
@@deltasword1994 The Navy Reserve episode happened 5 seasons after this so he wouldn't have been a Navy vet that time.
@John Smith Homer would have had to been on active duty orders in order to go on deployment with the sub... and since there was an exchange of "torpedos" (even though one "torpedo" was the ship's CO) that would technically make him a combat vet.
I like how Homer’s expression completely softens after he hears him say “the drunken gambler”
1:44 Here's a bit of backstory on this moment. The crew spent a long time going through sound effects for Homer's injury, and they eventually decided to make the sound as small as possible to contrast with the loud and destructive fight so they could end the scene with an even funnier moment.
And the five seconds before it was an homage to the intro to street fighter 2
@@eriks8382 that's awesome!
'Back' story is right ;)
@@eriks8382 - is that true? Where'd you hear that?
They used celery sticks to mimic the sound of bones breaking in Jurassic Park. Wonder if they did something similar here?
"His father?... The drunken gambler?
"That's right and who might you be? 🙂"
Lmao...
It just amazes me that homer admits this .... and proudly too.
👊🏾
HOIYAH! *throws star fish*
The camera slowly zoomed in...🤣
@@lonewolf604 HI HU HO! WUUUU-U! There you go fellas. D'OH!
I love Tom's expression when homer bends over the fire hydrant.
i think he knew he went to far and was hoping homer wont press charges on him
Whats Tom's last name?
@@comicbookreviewer4856 more like he realised there was a whole crowd of people that saw what happened and not a good look to his Big Brother gig

@@conorsmith8551 so you know his last name?
It's amazing how up until the end, Homer actually has the upper hand for most of the fight.
joseph monaghan Except he only did that once, and Tom threw the first punch on an unsuspecting Homer, so I'd say they're even in that regard.
No he doesn't, it's pretty much even unyil the end, still impressivr though considering Tom was clearly in better shape.
It's amazing what drunken rage and experience brawling can do for your chances. I'm guessing Homer has been in a lot more fights
Homer completely holded his own in this fight his fighting skills are one point
I mean, he completely wrecked Snake at one point, so I'm not surprised.
And he held his own pretty good against Peter Griffin in the family guy and simpsons crossover episode too.
He did go against former president Bush Sr.
This many years later, and I STILL miss Phil Hartman.
Him as Lionel Hutzman, and Troy McClure !
@@robertprince2651 You may remember him from such films as "Here comes the metric system!" and "Man versus nature, the road to victory!"
@@WasatchWind he also had this magnificent invention to allow you to read your comment in his voice.
@@robertprince2651 couldn't they have gotten replacement voice actors for them?
@@retroguy9233 I don’t think the Simpsons writing cast do that, unless they absolutely need that character and most fans from that time agree that nobody could truly replace Phil Hartman as the voice of Lionel Huttz Troy, McClure, Lyle Lanley, or this tom character.
Wow, Homer is a lot tougher than he looks.
According to some info... Homer became ADDICTED to Pain Killers, what would be normally extremely painful to us wouldn't hurt him as much.
DakariKingMykan homer is a lot of things, he was once a boxer who couldn’t be knocked out, yet he couldn’t throw punches. Then he became a average man who took punches and delivered punches like the time he fought Smithers, George H Bush, and the big brother. Then he fought peter griffin where they both fought like superheroes so it all depends on what type of fighter homer is
@@DakariKingMykan Do we have a source on this?

@@seanoleary4374 Haha and what did he say?
Thank you, this caption will be helpful to all the blind people out there
His voice is slighter higher as well. A very subtle touch.
How Homer has managed to endure his injuries is beyond me.
I love Homer's ninja cry.
Even funnier when you compare it to his skills in "Whacking Day"
I'm a hemophiliac!
“Look there’s another disadvantaged boy”.
“Where”

“There you go fellas.”
*Shark eats the star fish
“D’OH!”
LoL 🤣🤣🤣🤣 he just had to feed it to the sharks
They still have things in common. But I don’t think that sharks eat starfish.
That part made me LOL when I first saw it as a kid!
This is better than all the times Peter Griffin took on the Giant Chicken.
dude, by far.. Family Guy is funny and all.. but it won't ever be as funny as The Simpsons..
Ryan is right. Family guy was never that funny and blows big time now.
Simpsons was amazing and super funny... Now it sucks as much as family guy pretty much lol..
Hell this probably where Family Guy got it from, with the damn Chicken fight. Family Guy copied a few things from Simpsons
@@soyborne.bornmadeandundone1342 The Simpsons is still winning awards and is still a top rate show. Family Guy gets so much criticism and had the Simpsons on their show as help build more fans
None of the times he took on the chicken were funny.
God, old school Simpsons was so good.
Okay?
Yes it was! 😄
I know, what the Hell happened to the Simpsons years later and now? They need to bring back the OG crew responsible for the golden ere of the Simpsons.
@@kingbeef66 - 0r just end it altogether on a higher note.
The guy freeing the starfish and them getting eaten by the shark is something that most writers would never think to do in that scene
Really? Kind of a cliche, isn't it?
tom
@@RunstarHomeryea it's basically shock humour, take a seemingly normal thing and make something crazy or disastrous happen. That sort of thing has been going on for years, from the classic cutting out a hole and the world around it falls instead gag to the whole thing with the innocent cute harmless looking thing being the most deadly of all
That was the mind of random feral joke that made peak Simpsons so good.
The dude doing the D'oh is the joke.
I remember as a kid, I was so pissed when Homer lost the fight, because Homer was my favourite character. But now, I think it’s hilarious that he bent over backwards on the fire hydrant. I also love the jokes in this entire fight scene. The police not bothering to get involved, unless chief Wiggum got frozen bananas from the aquarium, and Kent getting pranked on the news. The old Simpsons episodes are brilliant. Every joke was so well used, and cleverly done.
Reminds me of the Street Fighter Arcade game intro
It was a reference to that
My sister noticed that when the episode first aired.
Come to think of it you're right he even looks like the guy too lol.
Yes I known our early childhood arcade 90’s
the part when he fall back on the hydrant gets me every time XD
Lmaoooo the guy's face
By far the funniest moment ever on The Simpsons
The sound effect was perfect too

“That’s right, and who might you be:)”
LMAOOOOOOO

Troy maclure
This episode still had one of the best lines ever when the big brother picks Bart up at school from Martin.
“Bart’s dad really put himself together.”
What brings you here?
You're that guy who always pops up on UA-cam shorts
@@ZakkandtheJ i always see him doing polls
Given that: 1.) Tom was a Navy vet; 2.) Tom was in much better physical shape than Homer; 3.) Tom was at least 10 years younger than Homer; and 4.) Tom attacked Homer first and caught him by surprise, as Homer clearly wasn't intending / looking for a fight at all, I have to say Homer held his own pretty well against Tom - he had the upper hand for a long time and in the end Tom needed luck to finish him off, as if the fire hydrant hadn't been there Homer would have simply kept going... I'm guessing that a history of alcohol-fuelled rage and pub brawls had a hand, but Homer is tougher and more badass than people give him credit for
Really nice analysis
But dude, it’s a cartoon and it’s not realistic…both of them rolled down a cliff into Springfield Gorge and then rolled back up while still fighting. It’s a joke. It’s sort of on the same scale as when Homer asked the Itchy and Scratchy fan “why would a man wearing a shirt that says genius at work spend so much time watching a children’s cartoon”…
but still, really solid answer and analysis on Homer Simpson as tougher than expected middle aged bar stool warmer
the street fighter knockout at the end got me weak lmao
Is there anything Homer Simpson HASN'T endured????
The man is practically invincible! 😂
There's a really funny /interesting theory from the creator of the Simpsons, that the reason Homer can endure all these things is because God himself finds him far too entertaining to allow to die.
That's the 3rd time he's fell down Springfield Gorge.
He had a spaceship dropped on him. I don't think he can feel anything anymore.
Hans Moleman is the real question.
So what you're saying is.....
He's indestructible?
Indestructible..........
The "hey look there's another disadvantage boy" technique was quite awesome 👊👊
"They still sell those frozen bananas?" and "I could use some names.....I.P. Freely"
Those lines get me every time.
That's the same I.P. Freely jokes on Moe lol
Ironic how Homer and BB are wearing same clothes
Hes a healthy version of homer
Before there was a chicken fight, there was this and it actually went with the story.
Yeah, it was the climax, instead of a diversion.
I. P. Freely, 😂
Patrick Steward
I...... (annoyed groan)

Homer has always been a badass, he just never bothers to make use of it. He's even actually a pretty ok, if not good parent at times!
He kicked the shit out of Snake too
His bond with Lisa is amazing

Fighting down and up the gorge LOL
Cobra Kai Season 1
Hi Pan!
Ayy pan
lol
I love that Tom is just a better version of Homer. He's even wearing the same clothes.
Yep, more or less. It would be interesting to see how Bart would end up if Tom actually was his father.
So Homer has fallen down Springfield Gorge at least four times:
Twice in Bart the Daredevil
Once in this episode
And also during the Simpsons/family guy crossover
However in the Simpsons movie he almost fell down again if it wasn't for Barts slingshot
A true Simpson fan. Good man.
Don't forget he also fell into the gorge along with hundreds of clones in one ToH episode.
O Deum meum! So 5 times
@@Stoneman180190 Well, no actually, because Treehouse of Horror is non-canonical.
Man, everything about this scene is PERFECT!
Homer confirming the bad rumors, the ninja star like moves, Tom's "Do'h", the music, the fact Homer seems to hate antiques, everything about the news prank, the gorge, and the fact it ended with Homer falling on a fire hydrant!
It was made during "classic Simpsons" so they were still good at setting up multiple jokes in a scene. Something like this would be very unlikely in current Simpsons.
Third most beautiful in the state, to boot!
The triumphant music is the thing that wraps it up a neat little PACKAGE-UH!!!!
The big fight at the end always gives me "The Quiet Man" vibes. I think the music definitely alludes to it.
One of the frat boys was I P Freely, Bart was trying to call him in another episode.
Nobody's going to mention how they managed to fight their way back up a cliff?
I always ask myself the same thing hahaha.
Can we also just appreciate all the little details the animotors put into this short fight sequence, when they actually didn't have to?
Like that Mad Max-white flash, when Homer gets hit in the face at 1:10, or the Scorsese-esque shot at 1:13
It was a homage to SF2 turbo
Homer dropped his left hand setting up the finishing combo
Clear inspiration for the family guy chicken fight. Thx for the upload.
the chicken fights were better than this. This fight didn't even make any sense at all.
Explain us how the fight with the human sized chicken made more sense.
This actually has context, jokes, visual gags, and resolution, the chicken fights are just five minutes of pointless waling on each other.
And a reference to street fighter 2
Luke Dearey yeah, until the crossover of The Simpsons and Family Guy where Peter and Homer did the chicken fight which is one of the best episode ever
Homer fell down Springfield Gorge a third time? He's just straight up flexing about it now.
Homer's spine bending over that hydrant is still funny decades later.
1:17-1:25
Funniest scene
He breaks like three things on purpose....nearly 4.
This is one of the most epic fight sequences ever on the simpsons.
Falling into the gorge, and then right back out again, is my favourite joke in this whole thing.
[crack]
“This is even more painful than it looks.”
So damn funny when Homer's back is curved on top of the fire hydrant after his defeat! LOL! LMAO! This is one of my favorite Simpson episodes!
AMF87 And the "WHOOPS!" expression on his opponent's face. 😁
That's the joke.
Watching this made me wanna play the Simpsons Arcade game, because I usually picked Homer. Like some of the other comments said...he knew how to scrap when the situation called for it.
Except when he fought that Mike Tyson character
@@theonetrueman666 Tatum was a legitimate heavyweight boxer though
1:05 Don't worry Kent, Moe fell for that too.
The fact homer had a smile on his face after the dude said the drinking gambler
I love old school Simpsons.
His father... the drunken gambler?
romacechina that's right, and who might you be?
Alirio Mendez PUNCH!!!
That used to be hysterical.
Homer’s destroying shit in the antique mall is him acting out a secret fantasy of mine.
I remember that they originally wanted Tom Cruise himself to play Tom. But due to circumstances, they couldn’t get Cruise to play in this episode and instead had Phil Hartman play Tom.
But how would this fight play off if Tom Cruise was in it?
Cruise would do all the stunts..?
I think Cruise would have been too expensive unless he really wanted to do it. As a Tom, I like Phil as Tom better.
Rest In Peace Phil Hartman
This is even more painful than it looks 😂 Such a funny episode 🤣 A brilliant fight 😜
All this years and I've never noticed that he says "d'oh" after the starfish got eaten by the shark

When Homer goes Hiyahhh at 0:23 it always cracks me up 😂
this is awesome, we need more fights in animation like this.
1:40 - The way the Big Brother is fighting here reminds me of the Street Fighter II intro. He also looks like the guy in the intro, too!
That whole bit with Kent was absolute gold! 🤣
'His father, the drunken gambler!?' 😂
'That's right and who might you be?' 😃
His father... the drunken gambler?
That's right and who might you be?

Things news organisations no longer ask before running stories.
Man, Homer cannot stay away from that gorge.
0:55 any time I watch Godzilla 98 and Harry Sheers character is showing the "shocking" Godzilla footage I always think of this drunken Frat Boys line on the Simpsons 😂
Rotflmko at 1:07-1:25 at how Homer just continues to break things and how Tom has to go, “ ah homer?” And homer breaks another thing and is about to break a plate and then realizes Tom’s not there.
This is even more painful than it looks 😂 Poor Homer!! Such a funny episode 😂
That expression on his face when homer breaks his back, "jesus I didn't want to kill him"...
1:14 SPEAR!!
I love how they roll back up to the top of Springfield Gorge while fighting.
1:41 greatest street fighter reference ever
This is even more painful than it looks 😢
1:44
That’s the hardest I have laughed at a Homer Simpson injury.
Just the sound made me break down laughing so hard to blow a kidney.
Tom is a super underrated Phil Hartman character from The Simpsons. Not only is he really funny, but the character is super likable. I wish he got talked about more even though he was only in one episode.
1:41 Doesn't Tom have the stance of one of the fighters from the intro to SF2?
Homer may be a drunk and possibly have a gambling addiction, but at least he admits it
The drunk part yes, gambling not much since Marge has more of a gambling problem since $pringfield she forgot to make Lisa's costume for being a state and that hurts more then having back hitting fire hydrant
The triumphant music is the cherry on top.
And that's the fight Family Guy tuned into a fight between a dumbass and a chicken.
"There you go little fellas!"
*starfish immediately get eaten*
"D'OH!"
The spine cracking like dry wood at the end was the best part
I've seen this scene dozens of times, and only now noticed towards the end, "Phil's Gas"
TheRoflcer
😂😂😂😂
1:46 “This is even more painful than it looks.” No, Homer, that actually looks excruciatingly painful!
I laughed out loud when Homer feel across the fire hydrant even though I knew it was coming.
Homer didn’t even deny that he was a drunken gambler, lmao
This is better than the Chicken Fight from Family Guy.
I love how homer is holding both his hands up and closed after tricking then punching Tom.
He held his own pretty well there.
I based all my parenting skills on homers teachings
The snap at the end makes me cringe when I hear it.
This is even more painful than it looks.
Given which high or lower part of the spine snapped from the point of the hydrant might have fractured or even damaged it
Now we know where Family Guy got the idea for the Peter - giant chicken fights
I like how the 'big brother' Bart got is like the Anti-Homer. He's kind, athletic, he's got hair, and is considerate to Bart's needs. Yet, he's literally dressed like Homer.
That damn combo at the end (Cross, Hook, Cross) lol
1:41 can't beat a reference to Street Fighter II
At 0:24 - 0:28 that was some good ninja sounds.
Kent Brokmans pranking made me laugh so hard on my day off
