@@PutsOnSneakers why? Because I said something bad about cherry mx blue? If it can make you feel better I do think they have the best tactility of all the cherry switches that aren't linear. The click is still just an annoying high pitched rattle though
Preference here: I used a red switch keyboard and the typing experience was fine if you bottomed out the switch, only problem was that it was SUPER easy for me to miss-press the space bar while either typing or gaming, partly due to the K68 being a very thick keyboard. Anyway, here with my K70 with brown switches, I no longer have the issue of miss pressing space-bar. I find that pressing the keys in slowly affords a tactile bump, but a fast press feels very similar to a red switch. For me, browns are the perfect in between.
Yeah pressing MX Brown switches fast pretty much makes it feel linear. But honestly the tactility of a brown switch is just really bad and non existent. Especially after trying other tactile switches on the market or a clicky switch.
This is surprising to me - but each to their own! I went from Browns to Reds and found it really unpleasant to type on Reds because of the lack of feedback. Maybe it's a case of managing expectations of how 'tactile' they will be? Or maybe the experience of going from tactile to linear is a different experience from going from linear to tactile? Personally I think they feel pretty good and find the tactility pretty in the keystroke! This is a hilarious take on it though - excellent work hahaha
Try 'better' (more tactile) switches and I think you will get it. :P like t1/zealio/holy panda/everglide tactile switches :P It's like day and night in terms of how pronounced the tactility is. But I understand that some people want it to be almost not there, but there are still brown switches with better feeling than cherry browns for half the price of them
for linears the feedback is the sudden stop when you bottom out. on tactiles the bump is how you know its been actuated and you can lift off before that sudden jolt of a bottom out.
I concur. After typing several days on my cherry mx blue keyboard after previously having cherry mx red for a few weeks, typing on cherry mx red feels 'too fast'. It is too light, like when I was typing, my fingers would just slide until the bottom of the key too easily. It's great for gaming, but for typing, I wouldn't say unpleasant, but I think it feels wrong.
@@153Yoyok maybe because you have a heavy touch. Im using kailh low profile reds (lower travel distance, sligthly smoother and lower actuation distance than cherry reds). And they are heaven. They are almost as silent as non low profile silent switches, and you feel fast and accurate, and you actually are. It´s like sliding on water. For you i would suggest kailh low profile whites. They are are fast, 60gr and they´re both tactile and click. The tactile and click are very crisp. For sound reference ua-cam.com/video/Zg6yY0o6zoc/v-deo.html

I use Browns and I can definitely feel it. I always know when I have pressed a key. Blues seem pointless to me. They’re the same but make a click sound. And Reds... they’re just mush. My guess is that when you come from Blues, you’re not as sensitive to the Brown tactile-ness? Idk.
@@cubetheorist3419 yeah, I would say this. back when I first had my brown keyboard I thought it was nice, i could definitely feel the tactility. but after using NK Blueberries for a year browns are very close to reds. you can feel when you've pressed a key on browns, but that's all it is, being able to tell you've pressed a key with my blueberries they have a really nice tactility and feedback to them, it's like flipping a light switch. very satisfying.

Any advice?
well now this confuses me. I was looking into browns because I have blues and often don't notice when I have pressed a key next to the one I intended to press.
You love them because you don't know any better. If the only car someone has ever seen is a vauxhall astra, then they will think its he best car in the world. Cherry browns are an astra, kailh box are the lamborghini aventador.
@@dakure907 yes im saying all cherry mx switches are poor. They are strachey and in the case of the browns, the tackle bump is so small they just become louder linear. They are a 5/10, but because you have never heard better from kailh, zealios or even a well lubed gateron, your metric for what "good" is, is heavily skewed. Its not a preference thing, its an experience thing.
This is unironically the only honest/real review of Cherry MX Brown switches I have ever seen. They don't feel anything like blues, and they are barely quieter. They're more like a sluggish, thumping ogre switch than the holy combination of blues and reds that most people think they are. Disclaimer: I am typing this comment on my Cherry MX Brown K70
*meanwhile at cherry’s headquarters* “Hey how about we make a switch that is equally good at both gaming and typing” “Nah I’ve got an even better idea... let’s make it equally bad at both” “Jim give this man a promotion oh and please pass the cocaine” Edit: “Gunther pass ze cocaine”
I know one use for them. Hope you still read your comments. MX Browns used to have a small following in oldschool pc rhythm-gaming communities where they were looking for a switch that you could "float" on when going up and down really fast on them. This was before MX Switches were the big new thing and every rhythm gamer played on membrane "switches" or scissor-switches so the MX Brown was the logical route to take.
Browns were my first ever keyswitch I had on my K95 back in like 2016, and I thought they were the best thing ever back then. I later got a buckling spring Unicomp and then got some BOX Pale Blues to mod my K95 and just put the Browns in some cheap Amazon keyboard I got for my sisters. I legit didn't use them for about a year, and when I came back to them, they felt so bad compared to how I remembered them
These are really popular switches. I've used cherry mx brown for a couple years now and they're great in my opinion. They're basically a cherry mx red (same travel to actuate, slightly different required force) with a very mild but noticeable tactile bump. At first it was odd to get used to, but it feels pretty smooth now. Most the time your fingers don't bottom out and basically float over the keys. Because of this they can reduce typing fatigue, your fingers wont have to push as far or as hard. I ordered the keyboard from wasdkeyboards with optional sound dampening O rings too, so it's very quiet compared to most mechanical switches. If you type for school/work/hobbies and game, I highly recommend brown switches. But if you almost only use the keyboard for gaming, a linear switch is likely better. To each their own. Dope video and editing!
Cherry MX Clears are basically what Browns are supposed to be. I have a Corsair K95 with Browns and a Pok3r with Clears. Brown *does* feel different than Red, but as you said the tactility is subtle unless you're pressing the keys very lightly. If you like the idea of Browns but don't actually like Browns, try Clears.
Love the playful production style. I'm a huge blue switch lover for typing (reds for gaming), and recently bought a new board with brown switches, hoping it would basically be a quieter version of blues that I could use in my shared office, and was also disappointed. Totally agree with your take; it feels like I spilled a soda on my red switches and never cleaned up the sticky residue.
Browns are the best feeling when typing quickly IMO, the whole "only if you type like this" *slow chicken pecks at keyboard* bit made no sense to me. That's EXACTLY when I feel the response of the keys so I'm not slamming them into the base like with MX Blacks.
I don’t understand why everyone is hating on the browns? I used to have blues but they were too loud. I got browns because I like the tactile feel. personally my favorites
I spent a few days my new Brown switch keyboard. They're just not as tactile as Blue. Blues are loud but they feel a lot better honestly. The part that I do like about MX Brown is they require less Force to actuate which actually feels nice. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep the browns or go back to MX blue. I also much prefer the space bar on the browns
i’m not huge into keyboards, i actually just bought my first one a weeks or so ago. But even I, as a normie, was very disappointed with browns, they felt like a glorified membrane to me and offered really mediocre tactility. I ended up with blues on my board (which i’m actually pretty happy with) simply because they they were more tactile than the supposedly tactile switches
I remember when I was reading about mechanical switches for my first keyboard with them, I was fully set on getting Browns. Then I tried them in store... and was sorely disappointed but fell in love with the Blue ones.
dang, algorithm is picking you up and recommending this 4 months later with everyone here saying (I'm here under a 1 digit sub count) and I'm over here only getting to claim under 2k smh. Damn funny video
Bro this was literally me when i tried a brown switch at my friends house i thought mx browns were goddamn nice on paper but when i tried it i literally thought they were kinda spoiled at the tactile bump
I use Red switches and fit me perfectly. I switched to browns for month or so for testing purposes and it is very tactile to me I didn't like it because i prefer linear but I can clearly see how browns can be best of both worlds for many people. I prefer them over blues for sure and that is not because of the sound but the fact that its "bump" is not as pronounced I don't feel like when it actuates my finger just dips down it is weirdly consistent which is something you want when wanting switch like this. Of course it is always going to be compromise but as I said there is plenty of people that want just that.
I went for browns on my first mechanical keyboard just now because they: Sounded pleasant (I know sound is not everything) Are not too loud (Gaming with friend constantly, my friend got a keyboard with blue's and we flamed him so hard until he got another one with silent reds) Let's see how it goes
My first and only mechanical has Mx browns. i was so excited to enter this community but when i tried it i was like "meh, i dont understand the enthusiasm". but now i know. thank you for showing me the way.
Im actually liking lubed vintage brown with 3204, they sound and feel amazing. U can feel it by the first time you tried it, definitely not a red alternative
I completely agree with this. I've been using a membrane keyboard all my life and was curious to know what all these mechanical keyboards were all about. Went out to try out some switches especially browns but I was underwhelmed. There's hardly no tactile at all. My membrane keyboard has a more satisfying tactile feel. Probably pushing on a button placed on sponge would have more tacticle feel than red or brown mx.
I recently went from reds to browns and sure, I found the difference to be a lot more subtle than I expected. But I'm making a lot less typos on the browns.
A bit late, I know. But you'll make fewer mistakes practising, no? The browns might help a little, but wouldn't this be like training wheels on a bicycle? They provide a fix but not a solution.
@@AdaptedBass you don’t need to actively try to improve to actually improve though. Using your keyboard is good enough. Monkeytype is pretty fun too, and don’t feel like “wasting time”

Yeah, that was basically me, after getting my keyboard with brown switches. Funny thing here, the first mechanical keyboard I ever wanted to buy was supposed to have brown switches and just by accident was shipped with blue switches. I guess the guy taking it from the shelf was looking at my order and thinking „nah, he doesn’t know what he wants, let’s give him MX blues instead!“, and I say thank you to this guy!
Hahahaha, I had the exact reaction when I got my browns board. Thought I'd be getting best of both but it's the complete opposite. Ended up swapping all of them out for a mix of linears and clickys.
You love them because you don't know any better. If the only car someone has ever seen is a vauxhall astra, then they will think its the best car in the world. Cherry browns are an astra, kailh box are the lamborghini aventador.
I find that the subtleness of browns bump is ideal if you lube them (smoother) and place wasd's red o rings (the smaller ones for less noise, but not mushy) in a cherry profile keycap (better feel/lower profile). With this setup you press through the very light bump and you get the light bottom out directly after. This leads to a very fast, focused, and accurate gaming/typing experience without a unnecessarily larger bump/click.
Glarses, I NEED you to try this, I've already tried this and I'm actually kind-of blown away, try OVER-lubing some MX browns, I know its not going to feel any worse or any better than it was before but make sure you of the STEM, and it actually gives off a deeper noise than a lubed GAT yellow, its not that bad overall other than the feel but its more for sound in this case.
I guess cherry mx browns aren’t really “tactile” they get dumped on a lot by the keyboard community. I still like mx browns though even if they aren’t “tactile”
@@Th0bse To be fair, alps linear is more tactile than mx browns. In fact, most 'linear' switches outside of cherry clones are more tactile than cherry mx browns.

its all subjective but in terms of price and feel switches just got better over time its still good but the scope widened so much that its considered bad in comparison ig
I don't know how to feel about this. I just bought my very first mechanical keyboard with brown switches about six months ago. I went from 88 wpm to 146wpm (Monkeytype 30secs). For me, they are the best only because It's the only switch I've ever tried and I still can't afford to buy another one or buy switches because the keyboard is not hot-swappable. I really want to try the blues. Because people say it's a typist's dream and I love typing. But when I check the stats there's really not much of a difference only the sound. And I can type fast even when listening to loud music so now I'm confuse if getting a blue switch will still be worth it.
This has to be a troll but even with the disclaimer I'm not sure if it is. Browns are perfectly tactile. If you intend to use it properly it's tactile. If you smash the keys down then you will completely miss the whole point of them. The beauty of browns over a linear switch is they stop a lot of unwanted keypresses while leaning on the keys. A lot of gaming switches for example, when hovering of wasd, it's often easy to strafe by accident if you are used to resting your fingers on the keys.
Even a switch tester is enough to understand that Cherry Browns are not really tactile (only if you press with the right angle and slowly, otherwise it feels not different than Reds). Hell, even Kailh Browns (both normal and Box versions) have more tactility... and if we talk about all the existing switches (so not only the ones found in prebuilt keyboards) there are some that have a nice sharp and distinguishable tactility, like Kailh Box Royals.
I was hoping MX brown would be silent blues, meh was I wrong. I'm glab I bought a switch tester before buying an actual keyboard. Mx clears seems to be better but still not clicky, just bumpy. Your video is genuinly hillarous.
How to make your own cherry mx browns 1. Open a cherry mx red 2. Rub the switch in dirt 3. apply 5 layers of brown spray paint on the stem 4. Close the switch 5. Throw it in a fire pit

This is the most relatable video I've seen in a long time. I was so excited to try browns and ordered a Vortex board with them. By the time I received that board I had built one with Halo Clears and returned the browns immediately.
and the youtube algorithm strikes again
this is the second recomendation I get in the last few days from a channel that is too small to have any significant reach but still has high quality content... gotta sub now I guess
Idk.
@@cubetheorist3419 yeah, I would say this. back when I first had my brown keyboard I thought it was nice, i could definitely feel the tactility. but after using NK Blueberries for a year browns are very close to reds.
you can feel when you've pressed a key on browns, but that's all it is, being able to tell you've pressed a key
with my blueberries they have a really nice tactility and feedback to them, it's like flipping a light switch. very satisfying.
@@LateNightFire I used a second-generation IBM Model-M (one of my universities had *REALLY*-OLD computers in the computer-lab inside the library (the computer-lab in the library was a separate-room from the room that had all the books & study-desks, by the way)). (Yeah I know: lucky me :-) ). (It was typing-heaven to a person-who-types-without-looking-down-at-the-keyboard).
Unfortunately when the university had a "give-away all the old equipment"-day those keyboards were the FIRST to disappear (even though I arrived there EXTRA-early, WAYYY-before they opened-the-room where all the old stuff [they were giving[-]away] was).
I'm looking for the "Cherry-MX"-switches that are the CLOSEST-THING to those 2nd-Generation--IBM-Model-M "Buckling-Spring Switches", (but I dunno if that would be the "Brown" or the "Blue" switches).
Any advice?
Browns I think their tactility is pretty low
blues have a more tactile feeling
well now this confuses me. I was looking into browns because I have blues and often don't notice when I have pressed a key next to the one I intended to press.
I've been rocking browns for 5 years and I love them. To each their own!
helps when resting your fingers on them. playing shooters and prevents you from accidentally stepping left or right when holding a corner =D
You love them because you don't know any better. If the only car someone has ever seen is a vauxhall astra, then they will think its he best car in the world. Cherry browns are an astra, kailh box are the lamborghini aventador.
@@En_Joshi-Godrez I've had red before and I still prefer brown.
@@En_Joshi-Godrez That's like, your opinion, man.
This is unironically the only honest/real review of Cherry MX Brown switches I have ever seen. They don't feel anything like blues, and they are barely quieter.
Really? I tend to find exactly the opposite. You need to be much more regular on browns. The reds will just output about every touch XD
I laughed hard when you said "they're ticklish at best" instant sub for me!
Congrats on 100k!!! You deserve it this channel is gold

@Makelele Toulalan I'll take u4t, holy panda, kiwi, penguin and quite a few others before I would consider gat brown
i tried a outemu brown on a friend's house, and was amazing i liked a lot!!! i just bought when i arrived home lol
The only decent and actually tactile brown switches are Gateron and Kailh, rest of them are washed up reds

hello random internet person, do you perhaps know the outro song ?
Love the playful production style. I'm a huge blue switch lover for typing (reds for gaming), and recently bought a new board with brown switches, hoping it would basically be a quieter version of blues that I could use in my shared office, and was also disappointed. Totally agree with your take; it feels like I spilled a soda on my red switches and never cleaned up the sticky residue.
Any recommendation for blue-like feedback but quieter and non-clicky switches?
for me, the feel of browns is heavily dependant on the board you’re using them with, along with how worn in the switches are.
proof?
@@lolvoii nil?
Browns are the best feeling when typing quickly IMO, the whole "only if you type like this" *slow chicken pecks at keyboard* bit made no sense to me. That's EXACTLY when I feel the response of the keys so I'm not slamming them into the base like with MX Blacks.
That start was so accurate, acting all calm with the delivery dude then the second hes gone you rip open your package and get all giddy

At first I thought it was gonna be a normie vid praising Browns but I was shown wrong. Good work
I use Red switches and fit me perfectly.
I went for browns on my first mechanical keyboard just now because they:
Sounded pleasant (I know sound is not everything)
Are not too loud (Gaming with friend constantly, my friend got a keyboard with blue's and we flamed him so hard until he got another one with silent reds)
Let's see how it goes

People: cherry mx browns are tactile
Glarses: More like tac-tickle
I completely agree with this. I've been using a membrane keyboard all my life and was curious to know what all these mechanical keyboards were all about.
Went out to try out some switches especially browns but I was underwhelmed. There's hardly no tactile at all. My membrane keyboard has a more satisfying tactile feel.
Probably pushing on a button placed on sponge would have more tacticle feel than red or brown mx.
Red mxes are linear
I recently went from reds to browns and sure, I found the difference to be a lot more subtle than I expected. But I'm making a lot less typos on the browns.
A bit late, I know. But you'll make fewer mistakes practising, no? The browns might help a little, but wouldn't this be like training wheels on a bicycle? They provide a fix but not a solution.

Cherry MX Brown switches are linear switches with commitment issues.
"I should use the rest of my college savings to buy a keycult" LOL

The silent reds are like this x10
Glarses, I NEED you to try this, I've already tried this and I'm actually kind-of blown away, try OVER-lubing some MX browns, I know its not going to feel any worse or any better than it was before but make sure you of the STEM, and it actually gives off a deeper noise than a lubed GAT yellow, its not that bad overall other than the feel but its more for sound in this case.
The birth of a legend
I guess cherry mx browns aren’t really “tactile” they get dumped on a lot by the keyboard community. I still like mx browns though even if they aren’t “tactile”

0:00 This is literally the music when Daniel Tiger is about to imagine something.
Consider buying feker pandas
@@MudkipMan97 if you can't feel the difference between red and browns, you are typing too hard.
