A few things. The mother switched to double bass from fiddle to put Katie upfront on fiddle. I love how she highlights the children. All the kids are also honor students. I've been watching them for years. They've got a full catalog on UA-cam and you can see them perform live in Branson, Missouri.

You are right about almost everything, except for one thing. Mom used to play the mandolin and not the fiddle. She switched to double bass to leave the mandolin to Julianne.

The peterson's are treasures. Their width and breadth are notable. From traditional blue grass to rock to humor to faith. One of my favorites.
FYI: matt is the style manager of the group. And they all consider Emmet to be one of the family.

I have seen 8 or 9 reactions to the Petersen’s videos and you are the ONLY one who knew the whole band, their instruments, and really appreciated their musical talents. Many loved their voices, but no one knew their names or all of their instruments and had the appreciation you did. That speaks highly of you and your musical talent as well. Well done!👍

He also has one of the best comments sections on You Tube. I rarely see the usual YT trolls, it's people that like music or are musicians that have knowledge of all things music. Back when he had a smaller sub list, I would make it a point to read as many of the comments as I could, especially for bands I liked or came to like. I subbed when he had 13,000 people.

    • @Terri_MacKay
      @Terri_MacKay 2 роки тому +9

@@lawrencetaylor4101 And it's people of all ages. I'm in my 50's, and I see many comments from people in their 60's and 70's, as well as people much younger than me. It's the same with his livestreams...everyone is just really nice and respectful to Fil, to each other, and to the music/song/musician he's talking about.
His channel is a very positive place. I know that if I watch a livestream or read through the comments on a video, it's always going to make me feel a little happier. As someone with extreme depression, I'm so glad that I found his channel...I know I'm going to feel a bit better after spending some time here.
There are a few channels that I watch for the same reason...the trolls haven't seemed to find them, and they're just very positive spaces. When I'm having a bad day, something as simple as that can make it a whole lot better.

I absolutely LOVE the Petersens. They’re great musicians and human beings. Have been listening to them for a long while now. This is, by FAR the most technical, intelligent, music-knowledgeable, and BEST overall music review I’ve seen in the net! It’s soooo refreshing to find a reviewer like this musician, who doesn’t review using words like, “oh my god, this is so good” or “this music gives me goose bumps” or “wow, s/he/they can really play/sing,” that’s what we say, the viewers, that’s not a professional review, that’s just cheering. However, there are a lot of self proclaimed music reviewers who say exactly those words (specially, a Hispanic lady that comes to mind.) This man is a true music translator and teacher! Great job! Once again: You are a class act, Fil! The way you respect great music makes you a friend of mine! Well done! Greetings from Norway! PS: The way The Petersons end "Bohemian Rhapsody" is even more lovely than Queen's version, as far as I'm concerned!

Great content. The point that the arrangement keeps the touchstones that we “want to hear” is on point and highly perceptive. Totally correct, but I’d never considered that that’s what music lovers love to hear, in both repeated hearings and in covers. Fil never ceases to amaze me. He’s a gifted analyst. I hope people appreciate how rare this level of analysis is. Thanks, Fil.

That was a great version. I had to share it on my Facebook.

I’ve watched several videos by The Petersons and loved them all, including this one, but I have to say that my favorite is You’re Still The One featuring Ellen.

The Petersens are awesome! Seems like they can do a bluegrass version of almost anything. Check out their cover of Sting’s Fields of Gold.

These guys have been on my radar for a few years now, and I can tell you they're the real deal! I finally got to see them live in Grapevine, TX earlier this summer and they were absolutely awesome. I think Matt is phenomenal here. It can't be easy to cover Freddie Mercury, especially on this song but Matt sounds awesome doing it. The harmonies are pristine and beautiful. They are all very polished on their instruments too, and I love Emmett on that dobro. Can't wait to see them again and I'm hoping that will be soon.

I really liked the interplay between the fiddle and dobro at the end.

Been following this family for a while. I love their music and talent. Katie is the arranger of the music. Ellen did go to Hollywood on American Idol. I love your analysis. There is nothing more refreshing than to hear a professional of another genre break down a performance and give it high praise.

I have just recently a few months back learned of this family, as they are great. Country/Blue Grass Bohemian Rhapsody is rare indeed. They pulled this off great. Having a family that can sing like they can and willing to play different instruments, as they can is a treat today. This is live Fil you mention, I would not know live from Memorex, I would have believed you talk about the mics they used and the building. These kinds of mics were used when radio had programs back before televisions were in households. The building would sub for a studio for the sound not having echo feedback. I am happy you put them on and gave support, thanks.

“Comfy bluegrass” - did I hear that right? I never encountered that turn of phrase before, and it’s clever and kind. Also it helps explain why I love the Peterson’s sound but sometimes need permission to relax into it.

Right on Fil, The Petersons are a great Branson band. Great vocals. Glad to see them get more coverage...
