I have seen 8 or 9 reactions to the Petersen’s videos and you are the ONLY one who knew the whole band, their instruments, and really appreciated their musical talents. Many loved their voices, but no one knew their names or all of their instruments and had the appreciation you did. That speaks highly of you and your musical talent as well. Well done!👍
I've seen them live too, they do a great job. They were at a cowboy poetry event in Logan Utah March 2022. I even got my Octave Mandolin signed By Julianne.
I know it's kind of a trope, or cliché, how your favorite band is so under appreciated yada yada, but this actually comes true with The Petersens. Blows my mind they're not (yet) up there with Taylor Swift et alia! :D
I personally don't care if it's live or not, sure it's a big plus. I love the Peterson just because they are dressed nice, don't need show skins and stand for their faith - truly rebels in this days
I did sound for bluegrass and country bands when I was in high school in the 1970’s. I always marveled at how the bluegrass guys mixed their own by their proximity to the mics.
In rehearsing for this, they were exasperated in how to cover all the difficult elements. After trying for some time, they decided to just quit and post it as-is. These Southerners knocked it out if the ballpark.
One of the things I love about this video is that Fil is so good at his expert analysis and telling and showing us lots of things to think about, but then at the 7:39 mark where he starts to play the Peterson's video again his face lights up with pure enjoyment. I love getting both.
This is great to me because it is getting music back to being about music, instead of auto tune pitch perfect blah, blah, blah. Where a group of talented musicians come together and create something strikingly unique.
Your integrity no doubt comes naturally to you, so you mightn't think it's a big deal, but videos like this highlight how vital your channel is for preserving the soul of music going forward. This is the best, and by far the most important, music channel on the net - thanks

A few things. The mother switched to double bass from fiddle to put Katie upfront on fiddle. I love how she highlights the children. All the kids are also honor students. I've been watching them for years. They've got a full catalog on UA-cam and you can see them perform live in Branson, Missouri.
You are right about almost everything, except for one thing. Mom used to play the mandolin and not the fiddle. She switched to double bass to leave the mandolin to Julianne.
The peterson's are treasures. Their width and breadth are notable. From traditional blue grass to rock to humor to faith. One of my favorites. FYI: matt is the style manager of the group. And they all consider Emmet to be one of the family.
This is probably one of your best analysis videos in my mind. What I love about you bro is you analyze every type of music no matter what the genre making you in my mind a true musician. I’m so glad I found your channel because it’s so refreshing to know a person like yourself. You definitely rock my man.
That's why I love Fil's channel so much. The joy on his face when he's watching other musicians perform is genuine...a real musician appreciating other musicians, regardless of their genre of music.
He also has one of the best comments sections on You Tube. I rarely see the usual YT trolls, it's people that like music or are musicians that have knowledge of all things music. Back when he had a smaller sub list, I would make it a point to read as many of the comments as I could, especially for bands I liked or came to like. I subbed when he had 13,000 people.
@@lawrencetaylor4101 And it's people of all ages. I'm in my 50's, and I see many comments from people in their 60's and 70's, as well as people much younger than me. It's the same with his livestreams...everyone is just really nice and respectful to Fil, to each other, and to the music/song/musician he's talking about. His channel is a very positive place. I know that if I watch a livestream or read through the comments on a video, it's always going to make me feel a little happier. As someone with extreme depression, I'm so glad that I found his channel...I know I'm going to feel a bit better after spending some time here. These guys are the last of the Mohicans (metaphorically speaking), they rely on absolutely nothing except hard-work, dedication, practice, and raw talent. The Peterson’s are probably the best live band that anyone could hear in person, great video and great analysis of a truly great group of people.
As someone who's heritage comes from Appalachia I feel bluegrass on a truly spiritual level. So many backyard get togethers, family reunions, church meetings, little restaurants with open mic night, big and small town music festivals, you name it are thankfully still happening across the USA with amazing talents on full display and LIVE, even if the mainstream doesn't give bluegrass a glance. Thank gawd you called it a fiddle lol 😆😆😆😆
I saw them on Saturday and they performed Bohemian Rhapsody live right down to the perfect harmonies, even without Ellen their banjo player, who is on maternity. In fact everything was just as they are on their videos except some of the playing was even better! Such a pleasure to see them live. Thanks for your channel Fil.
Thank you for reviewing and promoting the Petersens. They have become my favorite band for listening to with my two year old granddaughter. She loves trying to sing along.
Sooo much talent in one family! They don't get the recognition they deserve but lots of good music from The Peterson's! Thanks Fil for highlighting their talent!
It’s really nice to see young people with REAL talent, not just someone shaking their butt and lip syncing, this is the music we should be promoting and getting contracts, not what I see in the current pop music
I absolutely LOVE the Petersens. They’re great musicians and human beings. Have been listening to them for a long while now. This is, by FAR the most technical, intelligent, music-knowledgeable, and BEST overall music review I’ve seen in the net! It’s soooo refreshing to find a reviewer like this musician, who doesn’t review using words like, “oh my god, this is so good” or “this music gives me goose bumps” or “wow, s/he/they can really play/sing,” that’s what we say, the viewers, that’s not a professional review, that’s just cheering. However, there are a lot of self proclaimed music reviewers who say exactly those words (specially, a Hispanic lady that comes to mind.) This man is a true music translator and teacher! Great job! I learned a lot!
Once again, I love seeing FIL smile when he likes something! This version by THE PETERSENS is great and does the song justice. LIVE music is the greatest.
That slightly strong upstroke E of Matt's on verse 2 is precisely what makes a great musician. It's pure soul and I interpreted it as a release of emotion from being one with the performance.
“Comfy bluegrass” - did I hear that right? I never encountered that turn of phrase before, and it’s clever and kind. Also it helps explain why I love the Peterson’s sound but sometimes need permission to relax into it.
OMG! The the planets are lining up for me. Ofc WoP is a The Petersens fan like any sophisticated connoisseur, such as myself... :D I always knew TP plays live, because I always nag about how the mom's double bass isn't being amped up enough! I'm sure it fills the venue when you're there in front of them, but on YT the bass just disappears. Or maybe it's my TV? :D Their arrangements are always top notch. They literally take any pop song and instantly mold it into their signature, peculiar, beautiful version of bluegrass, without it ever feeling formulaic or forced in any way. Vocally, they're amazing singers, each with their own, very distinct voice that really stands out. Last but not least, they 're all incredible musicians! I don't know much about the mandolin, the banjo or the dobro, but I feel like when I hear someone talented, who's done the tens thousand + hours on their instrument, I can tell. And with the TPs, that much is evident.
The young man has a really nice tone in his voice if I can put it like that. His voice sounds lovely on those higher notes. Thankyou to all . Just finished listening. Their version of the song is great. Love it and I love their harmonies. Not to mention the quality of their music. :)
I have seen this version before but now with the ear plugs in I realise that it’s even better than I thought, and I already thought it was pretty damn good! ✅
You could point out that they arranged and performed the portion of the song that Queen either played a pre-recorded track or skipped altogether during their live shows.
Not sure who I admire more -the Petersens for taking on this song, or you Fil, for including this genre of music on your channel. I think both did a wonderful job of presentation and obviously there's a lot of talent in this whole production. Thanks so much for this video.
Been following The Petersons for a while. I think this is one of the best things they've done, although they're a pretty talented family and there's loads of good stuff on their UA-cam channel.
It's about time someone else I watch from time to time has discovered the Petersens. I tried to interest my family and friends at last gathering and they quickly shunned me. I listen to the hardest of the hard and the softest of the soft so no one can say I don't have a clue. They have musical instinct. It's amazing how their mom and dad just decided to have a band. They all seem smart too. Someday soon I hope to go to Branson to see them live.

They have just about every type of strings - guitar, banjo, fiddle etc. This is rare to see a band like this playing a variety of unusual instruments and attempting one of the most offbeat songs ever. Gosh, I’m in awe 🫢 they nailed it. Thanks Fil for serving this feast up for our amazement.
The reason I love your channel so much is because the joy on your face when you're watching other musicians perform is genuine. You got it right with the word “refreshing”. Thanks Fil, and community for sharing this video. The Petersens have presented a unique (and refreshingly so) instrument sound and tempo with varied and beautiful vocals. A very fun, pleasant and new performance of this classic Queen.👏🤩
Thanks for checking out the Petersens. You are so right that this kinda of performance is so rare. I agree with on how that don't try and be an imitation but make an original version. Not what I would normally listen to but really enjoy most there stuff plus they are just a pretty nice group. They live stream by the "kids" are pretty funny.

Fantastic job, Petersens!
The Petersens I was hoping you would see this! I love this rendition so much!
How could he not heap massive amounts of praise on you guys? Nice to see you being analysed on this channel.
No, thank you, that was amazing
Live - No auto-tune - No pitch correction - Just talent!
And they are talented writers as well. Check out "That Ring Song". Very funny.
The Petersen family along with Emmett is just off the hook talented ❤
In Bluegrass, that strumming rhythm on muffled strings is called "Chopping".

Thank you for not cutting the song off until it is ACTUALLY completely finished, to silence.
I personally don't care if it's live or not, sure it's a big plus. I love the Peterson just because they are dressed nice, don't need show skins and stand for their faith - truly rebels in this days
I love this family. I saw them when they were much younger but still very well advanced even then.
The work that went into arranging this must have been enormous.
The crescendo on " any way the wind blows" is a professional grade subtlety. Really nicely done.
The triplets on the instrumental break. The flowing tempo. So many little details!
