I have the Makita/Dolmar 7900 and stock they are close but then you’ll pay $15-$1700 for the Stihl and I paid 1/4 of that for my very clean Makita/Dolmar! Port them both muffler mod them both and it should be very interesting!
I think I paid 1/10 of the price of the 500i for my Makita! It's already muffler modded, made a huge difference. Thanks for taking the time to comment I really appreciate it.
I would take them both!!! They are both phenomenal saws and anyone that has one or the other would be well served it all boils down to ergonomics and which saw you feel comfortable with good video!😂
I would take the 500i like my Stihl I think it will only get faster when it breaks in. The times were pretty close how does the balance feel with a 28'' bar on the 500i?
Very interesting! Do you think the 500i has more running in to do or is it there? Also I looked up the weights of each and they are about the same apparently. Is that accurate/translate into how it actually feels?
I'm sure the 500 will be a different saw at 10 hours. On paper it's about 0.4kg difference I think, 500i feels noticeably lighter, even with the bigger bar, it's also physically smaller, more like a 200 series husky
Many people will want the 500i unless they have to pay for it! I bought a new 7900 earlier this year for $640 and I was pretty happy with that. Gutted the muffler before it ever had gas in it. Sounds like the the Makita responds well to carburetor mods to give it more fuel. I plan to try that, along with a simple Ironhorse type pipe.
@@walkerscountrylifethey're no longer being made. I'm pretty sure that's why their prices ate going up. Sadly, parts are gonna become scarce. At least with the 500i you wont have to worry about parts availability down the road.
Could it be, That the 500i has a set amount of running in hours programmed in, and lets loose a bit more on the injection when those hours are reached 🤔
Great head to head cut-off there James. 👍👍 I'd take either saw to the wood pile to buck up firewood...
Glad you enjoyed it man! Yes either saw is wonderful to run and will buck a log pile quickly!
Dolmar 👑 and thats all that needs to be said
Yeah, but they're out of production and parts are gonna be scarce. It's a shame, damn fine saws

You've got the nail on the head there! Thanks for your view and comment, I really appreciate it.
Hello! You can use the cool Husqvarna tankcaps on Your Makita. So did i!
Thanks!
Did you ever figure out the big bore 7900 issues? I haven’t seen anything update wise for it, but man the stock 7900 rips in its own right too.
The 500i will be gone to the parts pile way before the dollar needs any attention.
If I am paying for the saw I take to the woods, it would be the Makita. if someone was giving me a free chainsaw, I might take the 500i.
I can totally agree with that man! Thanks for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it
This is the stuff I wake up for 😂😂 🎉🎉🥳🥳🤙🤙
🙏🙏

It feels great with that bar on! Did your 462 get noticeably quicker over time?
It's had about five tanks worth and I think it's still breaking in.@@walkerscountrylife
I would take the makita dolmar. I prefer the old school carb and cylinder. 500i is a good saw just not for me
I can see that buddy. Easy to think the new stuff is the way but the old tech still rips!!

The 500's generally need a good couple months of use to really wake up from my experience.

@@elemental4rce Interesting. Is that fairly regular use?
@@walkerscountrylife I think that will go a long way if your using it for a few hours.
@BigAlsWorksaws yes, the one we used regularly at work was definitely noticeably quicker than my new one.

Yep for sure there's a reason 7900 prices are rising!! They port well too.

you should try again but cut the big wood behind you :)
Yessssss, I was going to but there wasn't enough left on it for races 🙌 lots more wood here for when she's run in 😜

Yeah I think that's definitely plausible. They could easily knock the ignition timing back by a few degrees for X hours.
I have spoken to a couple of owner who say it takes about 10 tanks of gas and the it runs better. It also seemed that way on my 72cc saw.
I'd be pretty surprised if the makita beats the 500i but I definitely want it to hahaha *makita brand ho*
You might be in for a pleasant surprise then!
@@walkerscountrylife hahaha yes! the girl held her own !!
@@tbruce-sawsandsplitting yep!
Ok now muffler mod that 500i and put a 25” on it and see what wins then
You read my mind.. and some bigger Oak 👍
And that's not even the good PS7900
