Oops! Current draw at 12V @ 750W is 62.5A... At 1000W, this little guy is gonna such up 120A. Those cable will be a melted mess at that current draw. Remember, power is equal to current times voltage, or work it backwards, if you know the power, 750W, and you know the voltage, 12V, the current must be 62.5A. 1000W at 12 V is 120A.
You are absolutely correct! The included 8 AWG alligator clamp wires are ABSOLUTELY UNDERSIZED for the 1,000w inverter! That did not jump out to me during this video process. Thanks for chiming in!
First time on your channel and i like how you tested the inverter. Good job
1000W at 12v is 83A right?
It is 83 and 1/3 to be exact. He did the math right got with 750 watt at 12v being 62.5 amp. Then he immediately forgot how to do algebra.
I like how you go into detail. And your research and testing before you do video is unmatched
To help gain a feel for using a resistor to pre-charge the inverter capacitors, you can use a 12v light bulb. This provides a nice visual demonstration of the big inrush of current to the inverter and that you are avoiding by making it go thru a bulb (or resistor) until it settles down.
Connect battery to one terminal and inverter to the other terminal similar to the way you used the resistor. The bulb will light brightly at first then dim as the capacitors charge. When it is down to a dim red glow, connect the inverter directly.
Seems like a nice inverter. Thanks!
Great video. I now only learned about the product but how inverters are connected to batteries and how they work. This video should be called ‘using an inverter 101.’
I love your reviews. You're a funny guy.
Another great review.. Watched this one on my phone while our power was out AGAIN, lol. I need to get to work on setting up some off-grid power in a bad way, we've had more outages this year than the last 7 or 8 combined it feels like (definitely more than our average for sure), with one being over 20 hrs... Need to do a time-lapse with one of my security cameras to see how much direct sun I get on the roof on a typical day, as we have trees on the south side...
spend your money on a true Pure Sine Wave not a modified one if you want better power flow but this will do the job done for most needs so thats the only draw back but should be fine... good honest review .. you got a sub and like from me
First, thanks for the video! I will consider now for my Ram Promaster.. also LOL I'm like that .. the crooked sticker would have put a thorn in my side as well. Perfect solution, re position!😂
Nice Inverter
Considering that it is a dewalt inverter, my main question is whether or not it can power power tools. I find it very odd that you did not test that at all.
The Grab handles are there as bumpers, more than as handles, I'm sure. They look to be well positioned for protecting any plugs inserted.
I'm sorry, 8 guage wire is a jucking foke for that current draw.
Offer rejected.
NEXT!
They have multimeters that display the sine wave. I saw many sub $100 models.
I'd like to get one, but not exactly sure how to set it up and use it.
Maybe a video topic.
I would like to see you test the Dewalt car battery up box. I saw it tested one time and it burned up.
Nice little unit. Would it be good to have one installed In a pickup?
Would this work well in a camper
It popped up and Bam 💥I’m here. Wing nuts?? That’s what pilots in the Air Force are called lol
*Not Pure Sine Wave, But still quality* haha, Agreed. I too assumed it was pure sine wave. But it's done me solid for what it is.
Would this inverter be good for camping or other outdoor activity?
I bought one, but returned it because it kept overloading when using a reciprocating saw or angle-grinder. Other than those issues, I really liked the unit. If it could have given me another 500W, I would still have it today. It's a solid piece of technology.
That's because of the inrush current draw of those tools. You can add a soft start to fix that issue.
Not good to use modified sine wave on motor.
If I was going camping and I wanted to plug in a projector and a speaker, how long will this keep it powered for?
Have to have that pure sine wave nowadays
Read reviews on Home Depot / Lowes....Dewalt suggests no heated tools (no microwave, no heaters, etc) but im glad you still tested it to see how it handles it.
How long do you think this could run on 12v dettached battery like in your set up, using 700/800W continuously before having to recharge the battery?
Also, Harbor Freight Tools suggest RV rated 12v batteries for one of their inverters. Any thoughts on that?!
How many amps des the toster draw?
You made a new word. Accriibrated. Lol
Is there an inverter that can be powered by a power bank?
If it starts beeping that means your battery is low of charge there ya go guys i figured that out hope i helped ya, i reccomend hooking up your battery to a solar pannel if your using this for camping purposes
Is the a pure sine inverter? I did not see that in the description on Amazon.
Unfortunately it's a modified sine wave.
Do you have DeWalt 220v
What sine wave does it output? Pure, modified, square? For electronics, it matters.
Unfortunately it's a modified sine wave.
Thanks@@the-juice-box
What gauge wire would you recommend to direct wire to a battery to the rear cargo area of a small SUV (maybe 12-15’)? I had some 8ga and a breaker around my garage thinking it would be sufficient for a cordless battery charger or usb charging but the Dewalt battery charger is causing it to beep until I reset it. I had been using it issue free for a few weeks…..Is it a case of just beefing up the wiring to 4 or 2 ga? Or am I missing something else?
The cables it comes with are garbage. You need a 4 awg battery cable to properly connect.
is it modified square wave or pure sine wave?
Modified sine wave.
Can you run it off 24v?
No, this is only a 12v inverter.
I dont understand how people install these permanent. There is almost no info on the internet how to do do
Can it be used for tv
I was using it to play my ps5 last night, does just fine until it starts beeping, im trying to figure out why it starts beeping
I read description on Home Depot or Lowes...it said 3 hrs tv time
Who has a battery like that lying around lol
This is funny. A company that promotes cordless tools, sells a device to "try" to run corded tools? Should have used 2 standard lead acid deep cycle batteries in parallel instead of just one LiFePo battery. If inverter is used to power cordless tool battery chargers, beware. Some chargers could burn out, since they don't like modified squarewave power. You can't run a toaster non-stop, but maybe a small space heater. Overall, nice test.
what is the point if it doesnt run on dewalt batteries? I would never buy this.
This dewalt is outdated. Don’t waste money on non sine wave unit and no remote or apps control. Is this 1999?
The things you mentioned are completely unnecessary
the 18v and 54 volt power system company make 12volt car inverter :)) what a joke still got advertise :D
Well it work on a 700w Microwave.?. And to bad it doesn’t have a plug for a cigaret input.!.
I was reading reviews. It seems their old model had a cigarette connection
I have one and its trash
